Probably a fairly simple one. Just need to know how I can make reference to controls in the HeaderTemplate of a DataList. I've got a form in there that I need to get the data from.

i'd like to have a datalist displaying which friends a user has that are "online now" or at least "were online within the last 5 minutes"
assume i have a database of user profiles, and another of friends, and i can succesfully get a list of the user's friends into the datalist already. i also have a "lastlogin" datevar that i can easily pull that'll tell me the last time this user was logged in.
i want this datalist to auto-update without the user having to do it, or notice, unless online users change. it shouldn't refresh the entire page or anything, i want to tuck it away in a corner for the user to check on while his browser sits on the page if he wants.
i have no experiencing setting up any kind of automated or timed interval process for my .net c# site, and i'm generally a novice so please be gentle. where do i start this?
i have code in item databound, but i want to move it to prerender... how do i reference the controls correctly in prerender? in item databound i use e.item....?, what do i use in prerender?:

I am using an event calendar control (not a MS control) and I am trying to access a LinkButton inside this control's HeaderTemplate. Below is what I have tried so far. I get the familiar "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. Does anyone has an alternate way to get this control? I need to change the visibility property of it.

Scenario:
I am creating a custom gridview control which has a custom CheckBoxTemplateField column (deriving from TemplateField class). This template field column has custom Checkboxheadertemplate (implementing ITemplate) and CheckboxItemTemplate (also implementing ITemplate). In InstantiateIn method of both templates (header as well as Item template), I am adding a checkbox control which has Autopostback = true.
My requirement is:
I want to mark all the values in the binding column of datasource if checkbox in headertemplate is checked. I dont want to mark only rows visible on grid. I WANT TO MARK ALL ROWS IN DATASOURCE. I want to do this in _CheckedChanged event of checkbox in header template.
Problem I am facing: When I check/uncheck the checkbox in header, it postbacks. so in OnCheckedChanged event, gridview's datasource is null. Secondly, in any event of gridview, I could access only those rows of datasource for which corresponding rows are visible in gridview through Gridviewrow.DataItem property. But I want to set it for all rows in datasource.
Suppose I have two webforms, the first is defined as:

Aren't all public webforms really public? how do I do it?
The problem is that i have a search page. Access Database holding the information. I have a Access Datasource on the page with a Datalist to show the data. I need to find a way on setting it up to says "Sorry no results found" when the is no results. i am unsure on how to do this though.

Am building a Form for out intranet that runs on ASP.NET and C#, it is to be a survey from a SQL database. I have the connections setup can pull informations/Questions from the database. I am having a problem with setting up radio buttons within a datalist, ive never done this and i know they require unque names.
It is to be 4 radio buttons per question where only one can be select, i know how to group just not via a datalist with unique names

i have a datalist . that is contains 7 columns in repeat layout .when i have more from 7 columns , datalist style is normal .but when i have smaller than 7 columns ! data list style is not normal,
because there are some empty columns without specific schema.

I have a page where my user enters a search term and submits it against my database. What I want to happen is when the result(s) return, I want headings to pop up over my gridviews. For example, I want "Photographs" to appear over my gridview for photographs, "Documents" to appear of my gridview for documents, etc...
When I run my page, those headers are already there, even though I have not conducted a search yet and my gridviews have not populated. If I go into properties and select visible=false, they never show up, which is not exactly what I want either. I have read about literals, textboxes, panels, and have confused myself.
