Forms Data Controls :: Read SQL Filestream Image Data Into Imagefield Within Detailsview?
Jun 16, 2010
I have a database containing a table with about 700,000 images so I recently enabled Filestream. However, I can't figure out how to render the images.
I have an Imagefield control within a Detailsview which is using an .aspx file to render the image through the DataImageUrlFormatString (which is typical). In my select statements I tried changing the binary field containing the image from objectdata to objectdata.PathName() per the Microsoft documentation but this does not work. I get the red X image box.
I have some ImageField in my DetailsView and when I changed it to Insert mode then ImageField is also became the textbox that allow you to type something, and my question is how I can make ImageField to be read only when I changed DetailsView to Insert mode?
when i click the picture that is displayed in the detailsView ImageField, the jquery lightbox pops up, but does not show the picture. it shows a red x in the middle of the lightbox. the same thing happens with the asp:Image control shown in the code below. The picture is stored in a SQL database Image datatype. Using master pages.
I have a page which displays details and a pictures of employees. The details are stored in a SQL database and the images are on the server. How can I set a default Image to display (e.g. an Image saying "Awaiting Image") if an employee picture is missing?
I can't use NullImageUrl as the Images are not stored in the database. I can't use the solution found on [URL] as an ImageField does not accept an ID attribute.
This is probably a really simple question but I have a gridview that is linked to a table in a database. But I have an imagefile stored in one of the columns in the table. The SqlDataSource links to the table an I can see the images when I test the query. I just can't see how to show the image in the gridview. All the example on the web show how to link to an image on the server and not that is downloaded from the server.
I have a coloumn in a database table in which i am storing the candidates photo in a binary format.
now i have to show these photo in a gridview according to the candidates rollno. i am trying to use the imagefield of a gridview control to display the photo but it is not displaying the photo in a grid view
I have a detailsview on my page binding a table with information about the employees. They can update their information. Some info should be visible but not updateable. I could change the update command not updating but I like the control where I can set the column to read only. In that way the employee will find the data visible and they will see that the field/column cannot be changed. But having the column read only will return a null-value into that column when editing and updating anything. Why is that? Shouldn't it just update it's read only value?
I have a problem with DetailsView linked with Database, DetailsView is Insert/Edit enabled, and adding/ediditng data works, however........ when I add a new record (DetailsView in Insert mode) and press INSET instead going to record I have just created in Read-Only Mode it shows me blank form, it looks that the "linking" field is null.
I have created an ADMIN page using which the admin can edit the webpage content whenever and from wherever he wants. The only problem is that whenever he adds a new record to the database, the pointer which points to the new line on the webpage goes out of synchronization.

see those three pointers in the extreme left were exactly before the first three lines but as soon as I added the last line i.e. added a new record in the database..those pointers became unsynchronized. I am using ASP.net + C# +MS Access DB and my table contains 3 fields ID, IMAGE, STATEMENT
My query is that I have an sql field for image with db type "Image" , now I have successfully inserted some images in the form of bytes, now how to read those bytes of image from database and convert, show in gridview?
when i click the picture that is displayed in the detailsView ImageField, the jquery lightbox pops up, but does not show the picture. it shows a red x in the middle of the lightbox. the same thing happens with the asp:Image control shown in the code below. The picture is stored in a SQL database Image datatype. Using master pages.
I am trying to arrange the information from a SQL record into a 3 column by 3 row table to fit the form presentation that I want. I have placed on the page 3X3 table and then tried to place a detailsview in the first cell for the first picture called P1dv.
I have place a detailsview in the last cell that would control the paging of information called Controldv. I need to fiqure out how to link P1dv paging to Controldv page action. I am using visual web dev. 2005. I am not updating or editing these are read only views.
example of what i need the form output to look like:
But I´m trying to do that programmatically, not with the sqldatasource. So I wrote the method that binds data to Detailsview and I call it in the page_load. The problem is that I have to click two times on the select button to view the detailsview. The first time I click on the select button nothing happens.
I have a gridview with a Select button. Clicking the Select button for a particular item, I need its full details displayed in DetailsView. how I can bind to DetailsView? Here is what I have so far.
In of my application I am using the database to store and retrive images. The table stores the documents and the datatype of the field is IMage.
Now with Sql Server 2008, i would like to upgrade this to use this new feature. WHat changes do I have to make in terms of code and also in the database.
I'm trying to define a sqldatasource for writing out SQL Filestream data. For example, I have a SQL table with a column named Data, which is FileStream. The column type is VarBinary(max)
InsertCommand = "INSERT INTO MYTABLE (Data) VALUES (@Data)"
<asp:Parameter Name="Data" Type = ???? What goes here????>
In the code-behind to load the data, I want something like,
e.Command.Parameters("@Data").Value = StringToByteArray("HERE'S THE CONTENTS OF MY FILE")
I have StringToByteArray defined as Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(String.Empty+inputParameter)
when i click the picture that is displayed in the detailsView ImageField, the jquery lightbox pops up, but does not show the picture. it shows a red x in the middle of the lightbox. the same thing happens with the asp:Image control shown in the code below. The picture is stored in a SQL database Image datatype. Using master pages.
Is there anything special you have to do to retrieve Filestream data using a SqlDataSource? I'm using VB and have this as my sqldatasource:
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSourceReadPD" runat="server" etc... SelectCommand="SELECT [PDIPAttachment] FROM [PositionDescriptions] WHERE ([CP_IDString] = @CP_IDString)"> <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="CP_IDString" Type="String" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource>
PDIPAttachment is a FILESTREAM column in my table called PositionDescriptions
and this is some of my VB cod:
Dim dv As DataView = DirectCast(SqlDataSourceReadPD.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty), DataView) Dim dr As DataRowView For Each dr In dv Dim data as Byte() = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(dr("PDIPAttachment").ToString()) Next
The Filestream data has a PDF file in it, but what I"m getting back in "data" are 13 bytes consisting of: "System.Byte[]".
I've got a vb.net page that when a user clicks a button in a gridview, it copys the file (row seleted) in the gridview as "Label2" from the webserver to the users pc. (We had to setup a lot of security to get it so the webserver could copy to the users pc). I have that all working fine, but now, I'm trying to see if FileStream will then open the file that was just downloaded on the users PC. I'm not familiar with FileStream, and could use a little push in the right direction. (Disclaimer, yes I know downloading the file directly to the pc is a crazy thing to do, but it's a really long story. :-)
For the FileStream portion, I found this sample, but don't quite understand if I can incorporate it into my button click event. Here's the sample [URL]
