Now here's the tricky part; since I set the TextMode property of the password text box to 'password', every time a button click occurs it clears the password field, and since every button click event triggers a page load as well, I lose the password data. But I do not want the user to keep entering the password every time he has to click a button.How can I retain the username and password in my code? If this were a normal .NET Windows Application, I would use a global variable and assign the value the first time and I would have it available to me throughout the life cycle of my program. But how can I do it here?
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to use cross-page postbacks (or a similar method, perhaps Server.Transfer) to post form data (say, Data-set A) to a page, which then allows the user to add some additional information (say, Data-set B) and then postback to the original page the complete set of data (A+B) which then flows through the normal event execution process, similar to as if all data A+B was submitted on the original page to itself in a normal postback?
I don't want the second page to have any type knowledge of the original page, it just needs to supply two additional feeds and send the data on. This way different pages and controls could use this method for gaining additional data.
For example:
Page 1 could have a form with various text inputs, and two hidden fields Hidden1 + Hidden2 which are empty.
When the form on page 1 is submitted the user is presented with page 2, they complete that page and then all the form data from page 1 is posted back to page 1 but with the hidden fields 1 + 2 complete. Page 1 then has all the information it needs to complete.
I'm thinking that perhaps page 2 just needs to use PreviousPage and take its post data, add to it and then post it back to page 1, but as if it came from Page 1 and not Page 2. But I'm not sure if this is possible and ASP.NET might read this as tampered data?
I have two fileupload controls in footer of gridview with their corresponding checkboxes.
The autopostback property is set to true for both the checkboxes. Now after uploading file on one fileupload when i check the second checkbox, it detains(losses) its value.
How can i retain the value of first fileupload control on postback
I have a Grid on my page.When the page is loaded for the first time ther is a list of records displayed in the grid.When I edit the record by edit link button,the ddl saves the change value .
The same thing if I do when searching for a particular record and then editing and changeing the dropdownlist value,the page postbacks and the new value gets replaced with the old value that was present earlier.

The datagrids get populated by a database based on a dropdown menu slection.
This page links to another page which in turn links back to the original.
If the user leaves the first page and then returns back I want to keep the dropdown menus and datagrids populated.
I tried doing this with session variables but can't get the datagrids to stay populated ...

I am having problem while using onclick="javascript:history.back();" with Aspnet. In the first page i filled some data and click search button it show some results, i click on particular result for its details which navigate to the 2nd page but when i click on custom back button it refresh the page and all data set to initial values,when i use onclick="javascript:history.back();" I get nothing but the page displays "webpage has expired."

This is something I asked about a long time ago but there wasn't really a solution available at the time. There was talk of there being changes in a new roll out of EF where existing databases based on a model were simply ammended instead of being dropped and recreated every time.I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not there is something out there now that will let me retain the existing data when making changes to a model? If not, what is the best way for me to back up the data prior to a change and restore it post-change?

In the same page an export to option is there.
When we press refresh option of the browser after the export option the page losts its Referrer and comes out to login page.
But after export if we click on other links in the same page or any other manipulation in the same page its workign fine.
This happens only in IE and not in Firefox.

I need to make a dropdownlist webusercontrol that shows a list of years. The control needs to be flexible enough so that I can tell it show X number of years before and after this year. So if I said show 2 years before after this year the dropdownlist would show 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012. In the past I've stored the "X years" for later use by exposing a property and then storing the value in a hidden field. EG:

I want to store the "X years" values that I send to the control the first time - so not a value that I send in a postback. Is there a better way than using a hidden field?

I am using an ObjectDataSource in my FormView for INSERT.
Data inserts correctly to my backend SQL table, however as i am posting back a success/fail message to the same page, i have noticed that after a successful INSERT if it hit the Refresh button the INSERT is doubled up.
How can i stop a user pressing the Refresh button and doubling the INSERT?
Is there a setting somewhere or can i stop this programmatically within my ObjectDataSource_Inserting method perhaps?
I have a page with a series of Gridviews to display summarised information. There a three Gridviews which need to be selected as criteria and then a Go Button is clicked to retrieve the info.
At the moment the information is retreived as the dropdowns are selected. Can this be stopped until the user clicks GO?
I have a 3 text boxes. When i enter datas in and click the button it displays the gridview with filtered data. Now my problem is if there is no data in gridview it has to show "no data" so I used emptydatatext property.. The problem is, in the page load itself it shows "no data"

we have a classic ASP Webpage for displaying reporting data.
The process is following:
user inputs reporting criteria reporting criteria are passed to a method in a VB6 DLL containing the reporting business logic (generating a dynmic sql statement) VB6 DLL method returns xml data xml data are displayed with xsd transformation 150.000 datarows are displayed in some seconds (less than 10 seconds maybe) Now we want to extend this reporting function and decided to use asp.net (2.0) So I have written a little prototyp application with a SqlDataSource Object and a GridView Control.
A table with less data (about 100 or so) are displayed quickly.
But a view with about 150.000 datarows needs about 2 minutes and ended with a OutOfMemoryException!
The request of the customer is definitvely to display the data on one page like in the old classic asp application!
