Security :: Retaining HTTPReferrer On Page Refresh?
Jan 2, 2010
In my web application I am chevkign the HTTPReferrer and if not available redirecting to the login page for security reasons.
In the same page an export to option is there.
When we press refresh option of the browser after the export option the page losts its Referrer and comes out to login page.
But after export if we click on other links in the same page or any other manipulation in the same page its workign fine.
This happens only in IE and not in Firefox.

I have a web page that refreshes every one minute and the solution times out every 20 minutes, would the one minute refresh be considered as user activity and therefore doesn't time out every 20 minutes? And if not, how do I convince the page that the one minute refresh is like a user activity and it shouldn't time out? Here is the javascript to refresh every one minute:

Is it possible to use cross-page postbacks (or a similar method, perhaps Server.Transfer) to post form data (say, Data-set A) to a page, which then allows the user to add some additional information (say, Data-set B) and then postback to the original page the complete set of data (A+B) which then flows through the normal event execution process, similar to as if all data A+B was submitted on the original page to itself in a normal postback?
I don't want the second page to have any type knowledge of the original page, it just needs to supply two additional feeds and send the data on. This way different pages and controls could use this method for gaining additional data.
For example:
Page 1 could have a form with various text inputs, and two hidden fields Hidden1 + Hidden2 which are empty.
When the form on page 1 is submitted the user is presented with page 2, they complete that page and then all the form data from page 1 is posted back to page 1 but with the hidden fields 1 + 2 complete. Page 1 then has all the information it needs to complete.
I'm thinking that perhaps page 2 just needs to use PreviousPage and take its post data, add to it and then post it back to page 1, but as if it came from Page 1 and not Page 2. But I'm not sure if this is possible and ASP.NET might read this as tampered data?

I have a table on my page. I need to scroll down a little to get to that table. In that table i have som data that i edit and save to database. When the save is done i need to refresh the page( Response.Redirect(Request.RawUrl )) so it loads the new data to that table. When the refresh is done the page is on top again so that i need to scroll down again to see the table. This makes it very unusable for the user.
How can i refresh the page without it going back to top again? I tryed wrapping an updatepanel around the table but it didnt

I have a simple ASP.NET page where after the initial page load the user enters a username and a password to two text boxes. Note that I can not use the built-in login control in ASP.NET, as my purpose of using this username and password is slightly different. Now, I want the user to enter the said two values only once. Afterwards, using those two values I perform several tasks. Now here's the tricky part; since I set the TextMode property of the password text box to 'password', every time a button click occurs it clears the password field, and since every button click event triggers a page load as well, I lose the password data. But I do not want the user to keep entering the password every time he has to click a button. How can I retain the username and password in my code? If this were a normal .NET Windows Application, I would use a global variable and assign the value the first time and I would have it available to me throughout the life cycle of my program. But how can I do it here?

I have a test form that I've placed the login and loginname tools on. The login portion appears to work correctly in that if the user puts in the wrong info it alerts, if the info is correct all is well and the correct URL is accessed. The problem is that the username control that I placed on the page does not in fact show the username.

i have a masterpage containing this code :
[Code]....
when i am logged in, everything works fine : loginName shows the login name and loginstatus shows "Logout" hyperlink. And it shows this wherever i am in the website (subfolder or root).
But when i click on logout hyperlink, i go back to homepage and then loginName shows the login name of the member who just signed out and loginstatus still shows "logout" hyperlink. That s wrong.
When i go on a subfolder page, the loginName shows "You re a member ?" and loginStatus shows "Log in". That's the right behavior.
After trying lots of time to log in and log out and understand why it works this way, i realised that when i click on the logout button and then wait about 20 sec, the loginName and loginStatus show "You re a member ?" and "log in".
Maybe i get it wrong, but it seems like there is a parameter to set somewhere so that it wont wait 20sec to refresh this data.

I have master page
MyMasterPage.aspx and content page MyDefault.aspx.
MyMasterPage.aspx has one input button [value="Menu-1"]. When user click the button, the button will pass value "Menu-1" into
TextBox1Default1 at content page MyDefault.aspx, and then refresh
UpdatePanelDefault1 at content page MyDefault.aspx asynchronously.
My problem is the post back is full post back when refreshing UpdatePanelDefault1. I would like asynchronously post back during refreshing UpdatePanelDefault1. copy the full code MyMasterPage.aspx and MyDefault.aspx below, and then paste / overwrite it into your blank aspx page for testing. I am using VS 2008
Below is full code MyMasterPage.aspx.[Code]....

I am writing a web application which consists of a master page (header / menus) which does not change and content pages. When I do something like click on a button it causes a post back which is correct but this redraws the whole screen and becomes annoying because every post back and the whole screen flickers.
Is there a way to only refresh the content page?

I am a beginner to web development and ASP.NET. I am creating a web application (not public, so SEO, bookmarking etc. is of no concern) with the typical layout of header on top, Navigation on the left, content on the right. I want the content to update without the whole page reloading when selecting something on the navigation bar. What is the typical way to implement this? MasterPage with ContentPages and using an UpdatePanel (tried this, but does not seem to work, I guess because the URL is different for each content page)? Using Frames? Using an iFrame for the content part? UserControls for the content part
