rowdatabound event is not firing during postback ,What to do?First time pageload I am getting result as expected. When I click checkbox ,which is in grid ,my values which are in other columns get disappeared, that means during postback. How to maintain values in the grid even after postback.note : I did some small manupulation of data during rowdatabound event for the columns which are in the grid.

I have a Master/Slave GrisViews or some say Parent/Child GridViews.

I have an Asp.net GridView (populate with a data binding).One of my columns is a ButtonField (obviously with his own CommandName).The *GridView_RowCommand* works perfectly, but if i add a *GridView_RowDataBound* (in which I simply add a javascript confirm) the *GridView_RowCommand* event is not fired in the PostBack.

why the gridview RowDataBound event fires during a select command. I only expect it to run when the gridview is being populated with data. Is there some way to stop it from running when the select command is triggered?

i hve removed certain columns from gridview based on a cell value in rowdatabound event .. for the first time .. but when i click some other button on the page it creates post back and the removed columns come bak in the grid.. i tried to do the same in rowcreated event but with the same result...is there some other way to do it ..Here is the code segment..

I have a web application that shows a page containing between 6 and 20 UpdatePanels, contained with Custom Web (.ascx) Controls.

The problem I'm getting is that when the user FIRST clicks any of the radio-buttons on any of the controls in the page, ALL the radio buttons that have an active selection ALSO fire an rb_CheckChanged event (see application log below). On subsequent radio-button clicks, only that RB fires the event (as expected).
This behaviour is having a dramatic impact on performance. The page loads quickly, and a "normal" RB click provides an AJAX update correctly within 1 second. The problematic first RB click, however, takes up to SIX seconds to process, which is unacceptable from a user experience standpoint.
Developed in VS.NET 2008, ASP.NET 3.5. Also I converted the "Web Site" solution to a "Web Application" (pre-compiled) and got the same performance (still too slow). Release builds run only marginally faster than debug builds.
Why would a single RB selection change cause all RB's that have a "selection" set on them to also fire? (The "selection" is determined through database settings every time the control is populated, which is called from within the parent page control's Page_Load function. This selection is determined also at first page load, since all the controls get populated then, so why would the clicking of an RB cause them all to fire an event, and only once? That's what I don't get...)

I have one UpdatePanel which contains search criteria controls for a GridView.
The GridView is in another UpdatePanel.
I have a reset button in the search criteria UpdatPanel which resets all the search controls to their default values. However when I click this button for some reason my GridView RowDataBound method fires.
This is slowing the page down when the reset button is clicked. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to stop it. I haven't posted the code and explained it in plain english for ease of reading.

When a Gridview row is in edit, I need to default an empty textbox to today's date. I am close, but the defaulted date is is not saved to the database. I can key in the date and the date is displayed and saved to the database. Even more interesting:
1. The date is defaulted to - 5/17/2010
2. If I erase the month and key the "5" back in the data is not saved.
3. If I erase the month and then change the month to "6", the data is saved to the database. If any value is changed in the date the save works.

I have a databound gridview in which i have added a template field to display a calcultion. I have created a rowdatabound event in which I want to perform a calculation, but don't know how. The calculation is as follows:
First, it should take the sum of all the payments made by a given customer. It then should divide this value by a daily membership rate, returning a days paid variable. Finally, it should add that variable to the customer since field and calculate the date that the customer is paid through.

I have a very simple asp.net page, just some buttons and one GridView on it. The logic is a user click the QUery button,then the button click event was trigured to populate the gridview with data queried from database via LINQ. for a user friendly interface, in RowDataBound event, I visit every row, change a boolean value into checkbox represention. But it seem that the RowDataBound run twice, because the checkboxs were inserted twice for every row in one cell. so why? the source code snippet as follow:

Why wasn't my GridView's RowDataBound event fired? I have a masterpage on whick i have a query button, and I have a content page on which i have a customized GridView(named cgvEmployees,derived from GridView). The logic is when user click the button, the button click event triggered that search the underlying database and populate the GridView.
Everything runs great except that RowDataBound event isn't triggered. Because I have to change some cells' representations in RowDataBound event handler. I have surfed so much pages to find the answer but failed. Below is what i have already done:
1. set the autoeventwireup to true;
2. i have a cgvEmployees.bind() sentence in the button click event handler;
3. i have OnRowDataBound="cgvEmployees_OnRowDataBound" in the content page GridView tag attribute
by the way, the database query is coded by Linq Dynamic Query (please google 'dynamic Linq').

How do I access GridView Page Index in RowDataBound event? I am assigning PageIndex to hyperlink on the gridview, for this I was planning to use "GridView1.PageIndex" in rowdatabound event. Problem is when I got second page in gridview (10 rows per page), the first row in the page shows page index as "0" and from second row it becomes 1. And if I goto third page, the first row in the page shows page index as "1" and from second row it becomes 2.

I have a Gridview with edit and update feature enabled. It displays the data correctly but when I click on the Edit linkbutton(to edit the data), I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".
I tried debugging and found that the row which I click (say editindex is 1) loses its value. I could identify this while debugging the code, when the code flow moves to the rowdatabound event, the label (or for that matter any control in the rowdatabound event) shows a null value and eventually errors out.
I am unable to figure out as to why the control specified in the rowdatabound event loses its value when editing. Note: The lost valueow data is the one which I tried editing.

we are having some weird issues with URL Routing in ASP.NET 3.5.
We have a search box that does a search and redirects to a routed URL.
When we search for the first time (aka Press a button that forces a postback) everythign works as expected. we get:
1. BeginRequest event.
2. Determines Route
3. Calls Routehandler to match the route item to the actual destination page
4. Routes the url appropriately.
After you do one search successfully and try again it fails to call the BeginRequest event. Because of this the routing data never gets called and so the url is never routed to its correct destination. What is weirder still if we append a "/" (trailing slash) to the url after the initial postback it DOES work properly again.
So our search route looks like this
mydomain.com/Search
entering a term and pressing the SEARCH button would yield a result url like this:
mydomain.com/Search/Results/MySearchTerm
Going back (after 1 successful search) you then need to use this url or else BeginRequest will never fire:
mydomain.com/Search/ < (note the extra "/" at the end)
why the BeginRequest event never fires unless the slash is appended?

I am facing one strange problem,I have a gridview in which the last two columns have checkboxes and on those checkboxes click event I am doing some database operations.I also have one checkbox that is outside the gridview which actually shows or hides some of the gidview columns.This was all working well but now I have shifted that grid to a user control because I have to use it in two pages.The problem now is,When the page first loads and I click the check box or any control in the page that is outside the grid then it works perfectly.But once I click any of the check box within grid view column then its behavior chages, now even if I click the checkbox that is outside the grid then also the checkbox_CheckedChanged event of the checkbox that is whithin gridview is fired.That checkbox event then behaves something like a page_load event that is called for every page load and for every event with in the page after it is called once.

I want to have a total in the gridview footer of the duration of the employees. As the rowdatabound goes through the cycles I can see it reading the correct times from each row but it is not totalling in totalTime and I get 0:00:00 in the footer.
