*** My specific problem is Dataset is only updating only to the top row of Database table and without the date-time and calculation fields.

The page loads using an arraylist to display a gridview control with a predetermined number of rows. There is also drop down control that allows the user to add additional rows to the gridview if needed.
Currently when a user has already entered some data if you use the drop down to add more empty rows all the original entrys are removed. I want to save the original data and then add empty rows at the end.

When save is clicked, I loop through each row, and write each row back out to SQL.
Can you recommend a good way for me to tell whether the row has changed so I can avoid re-writing the row when nothing has changed?
This is not only for performance, but I also have a request to write out a "Last Modified Date" along with each record. So for that, I would need to know whether the row has changed.
I saw someone mentioned that the Gridview.RowState could be used for this, but I don't see how.
One alternative I see is to re-read each row from the database first, to see if anything changed. Another alternative might be to set a dirty-bit on each Textchanged, SelectedItemChanged, etc, for the row, but I'm not sure where to store that.
I have an editable gridview with blank cells. User enters some numeric data in cells and also user can clicks a button to add new row to gridview. My problem is that, as soon as button click event is fired, the page refreshes & the gridview becomes empty. View 3 RepliesI have a set of data that has been displayed as just a simple GridView with the item name being a hyperlink to view details. I'm attempting to update this scenario so certain fields (sortOrder and isApproved) are editable from the main page and do not require visiting each item in the grid. I have converted the GridView to a DataGrid and have included a TemplateColumn for the columns in question. I have them hooked up to display the values appropriately. At this point, I'm trying to find a way to peek into the DataGrid and it's related data source to determine if the values have changed on the click event of a button. At that point, I could persist those changes back to the respective SharePoint list.
I'm not very familiar with the DataGrid, or GridView for that matter. Can anyone point me in the correct direction on how I could gain access to the data source at an item/row level during a button click event where the button exists outside the context of the DataGrid?
i checked the article " Maintaining State of CheckBoxes While Paging in a GridView Control" inaspalliance.com for maintaing the checkstate of a paging enabled gridview.In this all the checked values is stored in a session and when i am retreiving the values from here for saving it in a database,the data in the last page alone is not saving.

I have a gridview(gridview_1) in my website.Columns of this gridview includes label and dropdownlist.No.of rows may change each time.This gridview is to enter one survey.Once user selected values from dropdownlist,I have to save these values into database.How to do this?I have another gridview(gridview_2) which shows id,user and date of each saved survey (details of first gridview).There is no edit button in second gridview.When user double click on any items in second grid view,a page with first gridview will be loaded where selected values of dropdownlist will bethe saved values of corresponding survey.How to do this save and edit functions for a gridview?Please note there is no edit button in gridview_2 and number of rows in gridview_1 is not constant

How can I Edit/Update, Delete and save record to database
I have a dinamically gridview, populated according with the SQL sintaxe from the user, with a TextBox. I enable in the gridview an Edit button, and the rowEdit works well when fired. But my problem is Update button. How to save the record edited, in a dinamically gridview, when I can't programatically set the fields to be saved? Ie, I need to iterating with all fields in the gridview edited record and update. How to do this?

I've now designed my tables, and basic gridview functions properly.Now I'm faced with the problem of having to calculate a value based on 2 - 3 columns/data in the gridview, display the result in an existing column in the same gridview, and saving the calculated value in the datasource.I had initially created the "Total" column as a textbox displaying a manually calculated amount that is saved in the datasource.
