When I am setting the width of a column in a GridView I use the HeaderStyle-Width:

Two questions. First, is HeaderStyle-Width a preferred/best way to manage column width in a grid view? And second, how do I suppress the genration of the the additional code?

I have a GridView and the users are complaining about the columns shifting around. The width of the columns automatically adjusts to fit the size of their contents, and expand as the page is made bigger.I need to be able to set the width of the column so that it takes up the same size, regardless of the size of the contents or size of the page.I am using templated in my grid, but there is not width attribute

I have a grid. I am building and populating it dynamically in C#. Below mentioned is my issue:
string s1 = "string1";
string s2 = "string2";
And then I have a header cell text which needs to be populated like this.
headercell.text = s1 + new string(' ', 20) + s2;
I am not able to get the extra 20 spaces between s1 and s2. It gives me just one space instead of 20 spaces.
I tried using headercell.text = s1 + s2.padleft(' ', 30); even then I am not able to get more than one space between strings s1 and s2.

Just to be sure.. ive added a GridView and i was wondering if it was normal that it is generated as a floating element? Because, i had to use a clear: both after in order to write on the next line.. cause the text was displayed at the right of the GridView even with a <br>.

Tried several different ways to do this but am just not seeing it. Proably a quick solution for someone more skilled than me.
I have a gridview generated from a datatable. One of the columns is "client name" whose data is generated from a class.
I added a link button for the column header that fires a sub that should sort the datagrid, but is not.
Here is the code I have so far that creates the gridview which works fine:

I create a gridview dynamically to fit the contents of a datatable...This form will have other dataatbles thrown at it but for the moment I am only working on one to work out the details of the process.I will post all my code below...the problem is this. The code successfully geenrates the gridview the way I want however...whenever I select a row all the cells including the header cells dissapears

I am currently working on a module in which I am creating an auto generated column gridview, and I have set the Auto generate edit button field to true. What happens now when I click the edit button The primary key field is turned in to edit mode which I want to restrict from being updated.
To restrict the same I have hard coded a template field which holds that column, But as I have set the AutoGenerateColumns Property to true the gridview automatically creates a duplicate field for holding the primary key column. For which I want to delete that particular column.
My Designer Code is:-

Even I have tried to hide that column doesn't make any difference for me.

I have a gridview which has autogenerate Columns Property "TRUE", and i'm dynamically binding this gridview with columns with sql database dataset. there is no data in sql but i am successful in showing blank gridview on form, now i want textboxes in gridview attached with each column, so i wrote code in RowDataBound which generates textbox automatically and assigns ID to each textbox, nw i want to insert that data from textbox to database but i'm not getting text which is entered in those textboxes, as i am accessing that textboxes using findcontrol and passing the id like gridview1_ctl03_text0. but i''m not getting any value from textbox?
In short i want to access auto generated textbox (with out any id predefined ) values from footer of gridview

I have a gridview each line has 4 linkbuttons - Edit , Update , Cancel , Delete and a few columns with data...For example TeamName and TeamEmail, and a hidden column that contains a validator (for ease of validating controls that are found on the same row , same naming container)
When Edit button is Clicked , the specific line goes into editing mode , Texboxes are created for TeamName and for TeamEmail .
I create dinamically (code behind ) a new textbox that reads the value from the TeamEmail textbox , i give it a new id (let's say "Email") , add that email to the controltovalidate property of my validator , and call the validate() method of the validator.
Everything works fine when i modify the value in a worng format , the validator err message appears , when i modify the TeamEmail value to a good email format , the validator property isvalid becomes true , and the update is running , but my textbox is empty :( updating the TeamEmail value to null.

I have a gridview with an objectdatasource whose select method calls a stored procedure. In the select method I test for an output parameter from the stored proc which can indicate certain business rule problems, such as no rows returned. I throw an exception in the select method in these cases which bubbles back to the selected event of the objectdatasource.
In objectdatasource.selected, I set e.ExceptionHandled = True, so that further processing of the gridview stops, including databinding.
The problem I have is that the objectdatasource select method executes again, even though I have set e.ExceptionHandled to true. This then cause problems with my messaging to the user. Am I missing something about the purpose of e.ExceptionHandled.

i have a really annoying problem in that i need to programmatically create a SQLDatasource and then add it to my asp.net page on the load event. If I do this it all seems to work ok in terms of data binding but for all buttons on the page their postback events stop working?Is this a know issue or must I be doing something wrong?

I have created a simple dataset with my ObjcetDataSource to my SQL table named Invoices and a new FormView. My form inserts are working 100% correctly, however after some testing i noticed the insert happens again if i hit the refresh button on my browser after an initial insert. I am currently submitting the form back to itself with a success/fail message returned on the page so that the user can keep inserting more records if they choose. This is done in my Inserted behaviour.
In my ObjectDataSource_Inserting code i am setting the values of a date prior to my insert. How do i stop a second INSERT from happening when the user refreshes the browser? I thought it was what IsPostBack was used for? Here is my code:

I have inherited an ASP.NET/C# project written way back in .NET 1.0. I started programming in .NET 2.0, so some of the antiquated concepts are foreign. I noticed that 80% of the pages have the following snippet or something similar:

Although this area is hit in the page load process, commenting it out has no obvious effects on the web page. I can guess that if the connSQL object is used and not initialized elsewhere, then problems can come up, this just hasn't been the case. So, my question is where does this designer generated code come from? I've never seen in it the code behind. Is this another .net 1.0 thing?
