Forms Data Controls :: Text Validator Case-sensitive / Change The Server-side validator?
Dec 13, 2010
I have a validator on a textbox that validates against a list to ensure that the user doesn't input the same name. When testing it, if I type in the same name including the same case structure, it returns an error. If I change one letter to a different case, it doesn't return an error but rather my SQL server returns a duplicate error. How do I change the server-side validator so that it picks up duplicate names regardless of case?

my question is very simple. I had read through many post include this: http://blog.anasghanem.com/post/How-to-get-the-readonly-textbox-value-on-the-server-.aspxI have a calender extender and the date was target to a texbox. This textbox, i had set it to readonly and it is validate by a required field validator. so mean this texbox must have a value inside. my prob is, i bind the textbox to database and if data is NULL or empty i can't save it because the required field validator was validate textbox as empty value at cllient side. If i remove the required field validator everthing fine. But this is not i want. I have try to set the textbox to javascript onCopy,onPaste,onkeyup. but user also can delete and paste into the textbox.i have think to disable the requried field validtor at server side when data is inserted.

In my web page I have a Checkbox (datatype = tinyint/boolean) and 2 Required field validator (whose visibility is false). I want that when I check(tick) the checkbox, then required field validator visible = true, else not.For this I tried this code on Page_Load as well as on save button click, but it is not working:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
if (ChkComplexPass.Checked) {
Regex4.Visible = true;
Regex.Visible = true;

I have this compare validator:
<asp:CompareValidator ID="cpvBirthDate" Type="Date" ControlToValidate="txtBirthDate" Operator="DataTypeCheck" runat="server" ErrorMessage="Please enter a valid date in this format mm-dd-yy">
<img src="Images/ExclamationMark.gif" alt="Please enter a valid date in this format mm-dd-yy" />
</asp:CompareValidator>
It works on the clientside fine, but if a user has javascript disabled then it accepts 071873 which is not a date. Do I need to write a specific serverside function for this validator to work?

I have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)
<asp:RadioButton runat="Server" ID="RadioBetween" GroupName="DateGroup" CssClass="date_group_options_control_radio" />
[code]...
There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)
<script type="text/javascript">
function ValidateDateFields_Client(source, args) [code]...
There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.
<script type="text/javascript">
//<![CDATA[
var ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator = document.all ? document.all["ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator"] : document.getElementById("ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator");
[code]...
Do i need to add something in to scope it? What's the best way to achieve this? If I disable the loading of the second control everything works fine.

I've been trying to get a custom validator component working that ensures at least one checkbox from a checkboxlist has been checked. I've been used some code I found on dotnetjunkies.com but the client-side validation didn't work. I've been attempting to modify it to get the client-side javascript validation to work with no luck. Basically, I compile the below code into a DLL and add it to my bin folder.

I have a series of textboxes on a FormView. There is a textbox for entering a percent for a deposit amount and next to that a corresponding textbox for entering a dollar value for a deposit amount. There are 3 sets of these.
If a user changes a percent textbox, I update the dollar value textbox based on the percent times the project's total cost. If a user changes the dollar value textbox, the percent textbox gets updated as a percent of that dollar amount divided by the project's total cost.
I have the percent textboxes formatted as "{0:0%}" and the dollar value textboxes as "{0:C}".
When a user types into the textbox, the formatting goes away and we get raw numbers but I don't want those raw numbers to remain as such after they tab or click out of the field. I added a TextChanged event to reset the formatting. This works fine on reformatting the percent textbox but the currency one remains as just a raw numeric value.
Here is the markup (ignore the lack of validation for numeric input only...it will be added):
<td>
<asp:TextBox ID="txtDepositPercent1" runat="server" AutoPostBack="true"
CssClass="TextboxAnimatedRightAlign" Width="33px"
Text='<%# String.Format("{0:0%}", Eval("fld_dep1")) %>'
OnTextChanged="txtDeposit_TextChanged" />
[Code]....

When it comes to field validation, when I use a Compare Validator to make sure a date is a date or a numeric field has a number, I must also use a Required Field Validator to make sure there is something actually enetered. In other words, the Compare Validator allows a blank value even though a blank is not a date or number or whatever.
Is using both a Required Field Validator and a Compare Validator the way to do this or is there some way to make the Compare Validator also require input of some kind?

Something is wrong in ASP.NET MVC 2 on client side validation. If I have form for create records in database and all fields are required, validation is triggered only then when I write something in field and delete it. If I go to field, stay this field empty and press Tab key validation isn't triggered.
Here somebody else write about the same problem: [URL]

I have a validator callout extender that works, it shows the callout box. But, it does a postback. It didn't do a post back the first time I clicked the button but it did for subsequent times. I read on the AJAX site that a custom validator must be used with this for it to work. I'm currently using this with a required field and regular expression validator. It works, the callout appears, but it doesn't work every time with out the post back.I posted this to see if there is a way to get this to work with a required field and regular expression validator, with out using a custom validator. I'm using the newest release of the toolkit, so I thought the documentation may be old, since the callout is appearing.

I've been working on a task to add a validator to compare the values of two text fields in a ASP.NET 1.1 application.
It uses validators already, so the best approached seemed to involve a CustomValidator. I was inspired by the following example:
[URL]
I got the server side validation working - now I'm trying to add some client-side validation but I'm having a strange issue.
When I click in either of the two text fields, the value of the txtFinalGrade field is overridden to either "true" or "false". I've been having a tough time tracking down the code that's causing this. I tried using the IE Developer Toolbar to trace the script - as well as FireBug in Firefox (though this is an IE-only app) and I'm still trying to figure out what's causing this to happen.
Since I think this is a JavaScript issue, I'm posting that part of my code:

Anyone have ideas of things to try? Anyone have similar issues with textboxes being set to true/false when working with custom validators?

I have a table that displays data by year. The year headings and data selections are dynamically generated, so that the code does not need to be changed every year. Each cell has 2 validators on it, and the ErrorMessages for each validator needs to say the item and the year. On top of that, the validators are in FormView templates. I know how to set the ErrorMessage text in code behind, but I am wondering if there is a way to do it more efficiently. Right now for each cell I have to code:
string Year1_Text = ...code to set the year...
RequiredFieldValidator Year1_Item1 = (RequiredFieldValidator) FormView1.Findcontrol("Year1_Item1RequiredFieldValidator");
Year1_Item1.ErrorMessage = Year1_Text + " Data Item Is Required";
CompareValidator Year1_Item1 = (CompareValidator) FormView1.Findcontrol("Year1_Item1CompareValidator");
Year1_Item1.ErrorMessage = Year1_Text + " Data Item Must Be Numeric";
With 5 years and 10 data items, that will be a LOT of code. Is there an easier way?

I have a project I'm working on, which is basically filling in a form online. The form contains multiple pages, and I have replicated this using a MultiView. On one of the pages I have a CustomValidator which validates a driving licence, based on names/previousnames and the date of birth.If the validation fails, I want to enter a link into the text, which will allow the user to click on it and correct the information that is erroneous.

I need to add a Required Field Validator to a text box on my page. When I add the validator the following happens when I run the page:
When I click the submit button the page doesn't submit because the page is invalid. No error message displays despite my having set the ErronMessage. When I click inside the text box that has the Validation, then the Required error message shows. When that textbox loses focus the error message goes away. The only way I can get the page to function correctly is if I create 2 Validators for the same text box. The first validator is set to have an ErrorMessage of "" and the second one is a regular error message.
I have used these before many upon many times and never experienced this. Below you will find the Source code.
[Code]....
This code is the only way I am able to get the validation to function correctly where the ErrorMessage displays when I leave the field blank. I appreciate any help on resolving this issue. I have deleted/re-added the validation control many times. This is the only page this type of error happens on.

I am using ASP.NET 2.0 and C#. I would like to know if the Session variables are Case-sensitive.
Is Session["StudentId"] and Session["StudentID"] considered the same.
Which would be the proper way to access the session details, when in a page someone passes data as Session["StudentId"] and somebody else passes as Session["StudentID"]?

we are making a project to run in ASP.Net on Mono/*nix Our problem is that we develop on Windows, and we just build and test it every so often on Mono. So we have been having a lot of trouble recently with case sensitive filenames. Everything seems to work good in Windows and then we move to Mono and it's silently broken.(as in, it builds but won't run or parts of it don't work)
How would you recommend that I detect this while we are developing on Windows? Basically, how do we make the case-sensitive filenames look wrong in our code where the code works on Windows but not *nix?

To start with then we have a LinkButton whose text is actually an image tag. The image it links to is a Png and resides in a folder in the web directory. This is IIS V6 and win Server 2003.
The path is [URL]
Admin is a virtual directory configured in IIS.
The above url doesn't work but if you change it to [URL] (lowers case 'a') then the image is served, change it back to 'A' and it takes you to login, you log in and it loops back to log in. change to 'a' and voila the image is served. Weirdly this problem doesn't always occur and I have hunted for a resolution for days to no avail.
As requested this is the complete link button
<asp:LinkButton ID="lnkCommitAll" runat="server" CausesValidation="false"><asp:Image ID="imgCommitAll" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/Images/Grid/confirm_16.png" AlternateText="Commit All Changes" /> Commit All</asp:LinkButton>
