Does A Custom Validator Have To Be Used With The Validator Callout Extender
Jul 6, 2010
I have a validator callout extender that works, it shows the callout box. But, it does a postback. It didn't do a post back the first time I clicked the button but it did for subsequent times. I read on the AJAX site that a custom validator must be used with this for it to work. I'm currently using this with a required field and regular expression validator. It works, the callout appears, but it doesn't work every time with out the post back.I posted this to see if there is a way to get this to work with a required field and regular expression validator, with out using a custom validator. I'm using the newest release of the toolkit, so I thought the documentation may be old, since the callout is appearing.

For some reaon the black outline isn't appearing around my Validator Callout Extender's callout box. I don't have a css class set. It should display a yellow callout with a black outline. Like on the sample page:
[URL]
It shows the yellow call out with the black outline around the pointed part but not the main box.

I wan to do a required field validation for the cascading dropdownlist . When my page first load out the validator is fired first in the google chrome, the callout extender message is prompt out first in the Google Chrome. I have tested the code in IE and safari, this two browsers never prompt out the validator callout first when the page is loaded.
i wonder why the google chrome will prompt out the validator when i validate the cascading dropdownlist. I have did some research on it, but failed to get any solution.

I created my custom validator in one project, something like that:
[Code]....
he composite control in another project. I added a reference of the custom validator project to the composite control project. I have a textbox in a composite control and I would like to validate this textbox by the composite control I created. But how can I do that? How can I create the custom validator instance that is linked to the custom validator I created?

I've got the validator callout on my site and I've not been able to figure out how to style it. I don't want anything fancy- just want to change the background colour and text colour.

I'm just getting started with MVC and wanted to see how I can implement something that resembles the ValidatorCallout in Ajax Control Toolkit. The unobstrusive validator is pretty good but in some cases I really like the call out approach -- seems to get user's attention a bit more aggressively. how to implement that in MVC3.

The Validator Callout Extender used to stretch the document wider if it was attached to the right side of an HTML element that was near the right edge of the document.At some point in the recent past, this behavior was modified to cause the popout to move to the left side of the html element, but the popout still points to its left.This behavior can be seen by going to the demo pages, narrowing the window to just beyond the page width, and then causing the second html input's validation to fail.I would like to know how to force the callout extender to the right-hand-side like it used to do, or have it automatically redraw itself as a left-hand popout if it jumps to the other side.

I have a validator on a textbox that validates against a list to ensure that the user doesn't input the same name. When testing it, if I type in the same name including the same case structure, it returns an error. If I change one letter to a different case, it doesn't return an error but rather my SQL server returns a duplicate error. How do I change the server-side validator so that it picks up duplicate names regardless of case?

When it comes to field validation, when I use a Compare Validator to make sure a date is a date or a numeric field has a number, I must also use a Required Field Validator to make sure there is something actually enetered. In other words, the Compare Validator allows a blank value even though a blank is not a date or number or whatever.
Is using both a Required Field Validator and a Compare Validator the way to do this or is there some way to make the Compare Validator also require input of some kind?

I am using a compare validator control and also a ajax validatorcallout extender control for data check on a field.
Both of them work well...but only the ajax call out extender pop up error message should display ... right now I have both of them displaying.. it defeats the purpose of having calloutextender, if I am displaying the comparevalidatror message anyway on the webpage.
How do make it so that only the pop up calloutextender ajax is triggered and not the comparevalidator error message.

I've been trying to get a custom validator component working that ensures at least one checkbox from a checkboxlist has been checked. I've been used some code I found on dotnetjunkies.com but the client-side validation didn't work. I've been attempting to modify it to get the client-side javascript validation to work with no luck. Basically, I compile the below code into a DLL and add it to my bin folder.

I want to save the input mask used in the control, but ONLY if a valid value was entered. In this markup, the mask is properly displayed and stored even if the user doesn't enter anything. Since a zero-length string is a valid value, the entered value is being stored in the database as (___) ___-____ If there is no value entered, the value stored should be a zero length string.

I have an AJAX Calendar extender that puts the date in the textbox in this format: MMMM d, yyyy. I also have a compare validator control that does at DataTypeCheck for DATE. However, when the Calendar Extender enters the date as MMMM d, yyyy (eg. November 2, 2010) the compare validator doesn't like it. It only seems to like the date in the format MM/dd/yy. Not sure how to get this compare validator to accept the input format from the calendar extender?

Does anybody know of a way to set the width of a custom validtor so that the error message text will wrap if it exceeds the specified width? I have a user control that contains a custom validator which the containing page can set the error message on based on specific validation results. he user control sits within a table cell in a page. If the message is very long it simply prints the entire message on a single line ignoring any column widths that are set. I have tried setting the width property on the custom validator itself to no avail.

I am trying to understand a little more about implementing a custom model validator. I have implemented a custom model validator (derived from DataAnnotationsModelValidator<T>) for my custom validation attribute in order to do validation on the client side as well. There is not much documented about DataAnnotationsModelValidator. Besides, implementing client-side validation when is it a good idea or needed to implement a custom model validator for a custom attribute?
A separate question - in trying to understand how and when a custom model validator is used by the framework I noticed that my custom validator is always created with the context (2nd parameter in DataAnnotationsModelValidator<T>'s constructor) being a ViewContext, although it is declared as ControllerContext. Will a validator ever be created with something else than a ViewContext, and if so, when?

I have a custom validator, which I have set a property for, and I can access this validator from my MVC controller method. However, when I run the code, I am not seeing the error message on the page. My code in the controller method looks like this:
If (!bool)
{
this.view.customValidator.IsValid = false;
this.view.customValidator.Visible = true;
}

I have two custom validators that are in the same validation group. This validation group is launched by one button. My question is, in what order will the custom validators fire in? It appears that the validator that is placed earlier in the aspx page fires first, but I don't want to rely solely on this.
