Initially I display all the records in the gridview. Then based on the search I fetch certain records and display it.. When I try to edit any retrieved record, the control automatically tries to edit the first record instead of editing the selected record.. What should I change in the code to make it work?

Like I have 8 columns in my gridview.
I wish to have 4 columns on row one and the 4 remaining columns on row 2.
I have a GridView that has approximately 800 records. I have a search feature that finds a record and focuses to it. When I click Edit for that record, the Gridview flashes and goes back to the 1st row. If I search for the record again it is in edit mode. Is there some setting to keep focus where it is? I added the following code to try and keep focus, but it doesn't work.

There is a very common problem I am facing in my new webproject in gridview control.The sequence of the execution of the process is as follows:There are some search parameters in SearchPage with a gridview. In gridview's rows there is an Edit button.By providing search parameter(s), data populated to gridview and if we click edit button a new page opens as a popup to update record.In new page the record is updated fine. On successful updation user close the window but he goes to the Search page he again finds the same record with the same parameters to see changes it remains unchanged.Its only changed when he search another record and then again provides the previous parameters.I don't know why is this behaviour of gridview?
Any idea would be helpful.
My gridview can have several hundred records, and therefore users will have to scroll down to view and edit some of them. The problem is when they want to edit a record that they have to scroll down to, when the page enters edit mode it stays at the top of the page, instead of focusing on the current record, how can I change it to scroll to the correct record in edit mode?

insert update delete in gridview using sqldatasource in asp.net

Unfortunately, now I'm stuck on a problem involving gridview sorting and paging: I created a master gridview bound to an sqldatasource, I enabled sorting and paging and then I linked it to a detailsview to enable editing and inserting.
In addition, I set up two other gridviews whose datasources depend on the master gridview.
When a user selects a row and modifies it in the detailsview, the sort takes place and the row is often moved to another page. This can be a little confusing, especially because there are other controls relying on the selected row of the master gridview.
There's a way to find and select the page of the selected row after gridview's databind and sort take place? I tried creating a dataview to search the index of the selected datakey in the databound event of my gridview, but it doesn't work, because it seems that the rows aren't sorted yet. Maybe I should choose another event?
I would like to ask if there is any control act like grid to display records.The 'datasource' will be a customed class, this dataclass has List<T>, so I will populate each element by iteration into the grid.Any control can I use to work like a grid?The number of records will around 100.This control should also allow the user to select a record.

Note that I would prefer not to use the RouteParameter that gives the Formview it's ID as the RouteParameter doesn't use the formview's primary key as I'm using the menu name instead

I want to return only the record or records from one table "tblUserInfo" to my details control where the records are related to the currently logged in user. I have a field in the "tblUserInfo" table named "UserName" that contains the value that is displayed as the current user name when the user logs in. My connections string is located in the WebConfig file and is being recogonized by VWD as being a connteciton string.

On occation a user will attempt to edit a record in a detailsview and they get this error:
System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException ddlState has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items. Parameter name: value
This happens to be a list of states.
Is there way to allow the edit so the user can select a valid state from the list?
I'm new to asp.net 3.5 and I have been working through the tutorials using a real access database to learn how to use the new controls. I have an extremely simplistic page setup with a master-details view, the master using the gridview, and the detail using the detailsview controls. Everything seemingly functions correctly, except when I try to update the data in the details view. I make changes to the record, click update and the page posts back but nothing is updated in the database. No errors are given either.

i have a master page in my design and other form are bound to a context menu..
Now i have displayed the records in the gridview..all i wanted is after i select a record in the gridview it will display the selected record in detailview from another aspx form..
i was able to create the link to another aspx form but the data that it display is the first data from the gridview not the data that i select.

I am updating a formview and have a textbox inside the formview called title_textbox.Outside the formview I have got a dropdownlist box values: Mr, miss, Sir etc.I want the title_textbox to = to dropdownlist1.selectedItem.value.1. View 4 RepliesI have a grid view with edit and save buttons when I click on edit it is letting me edit it and if I click on save it is lettingme save the data that I have edited.
The thing is after save is done it is showing the data in edit mode i.e <edit item template > mode I am still seeing the textboxes if I refresh the page then I am seeing it normally.
How can I stop the gridview to show edit mode after the save is done?
Can someone tell me if there is a technique to make an entire Column within an gridview (for example digits) editable (instaed of a single row) and update this column after changing values by press an Update-button?
A commercial solution is also o.k. with me, but, of course, a method to do it ourselve would be nice.
