Forms Data Controls :: Attempting To Add A Drop Down Menu To A Gridview?

Mar 16, 2010

I am attempting to add a drop down menu to a gridview once the user slects the "Edit" button for the gridview. I want the value, before the edit button is selected, to be the value in one table and once the "Edit" button is selected I want to show values from another table in a drop down menu so the user only has specific values to edit the selected row with.

2 tables:

table 1) tbl_FormalizeRawData - List of columns from a table inside a database
table 2) tbl_StandardColumns - list of standard column names for system tables.

I want the user to be able to specify which raw non standard columns corospond to the standardized system table columns.

example:

RawClientTable.MiscColumn1 = SystemTable.Member_First_Name
RawClientTable.MiscColumn2 = SystemTable.Member_Last_Name
my code for the gridview is as follows. I am looking to see what else I need to do in order to allow the gridview to be edited on the final column by a dropdown menu populated by a seperate table but display the item in the main table with all the non standard column names:

[Code]....

a boot in the rright direction. I attempted to go through the "Walkthrough: Displaying a Drop-Down List While Editing in the GridView Web Server Control" at the website[URL] as it was geared toward a drop down menu added to a gridview both using the same table.

Forms Data Controls :: Filtering GridView Dataset With Drop-down List Selected Value

Jan 7, 2010

I have a GridView that displays records from an Access database, and I want to filter the records using a selection from a drop-down list. The GridView populates on page load with all of the records. The drop-down list is populated at page load from a different table in the same database. The functionality of creating a new GridView filtered by the selection in the drop-down list is working. However, when a different page number is selected from the Pager of the GridView, the GridView "disappears," or isn't redrawn. The selected name remains selected in the drop-down list, but there are no GridView elements displayed. If I select another item in the drop-down list, I get a new GridView with the correct records, but then choosing a different page results in no GridView. I'm guessing there's something wrong with my OnPageIndexChanging for the GridView event code, but I'm not sure what. My code is below (C#, ASP.NET 2.0):

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.UI;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls;

Forms Data Controls :: Failed To Load Viewstate When Gridview Control - Replace Gridview With Datagrid

Apr 5, 2010

Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request.

The above error occurs with gridview control , when used with template field columns with item template / and edit templates etc.
updating a row within gridview, at the time of loadiong it loads perfectly fined, but when tried to modify an existing row within gridview control, then it produces the error. Make sure the grid view control has to be a child control which manages the child table info with in a master form. to reproduce the above problem the grid view must be loading the child records info of a master within the masterform, meaning both master data and gridview data all to be managed in one single form.

I had to replace gridview control with datagrid and then it worked perfectly fine. I wasted almost 4 days of my time., there is no way we could figure out the problem. here is the full info of the problem.

Forms Data Controls :: How To Select Query For A Gridview

May 24, 2010

I have a gridview that has a sqldatasource for it's data and it works well. I also have four dropdown lists that I need to have filter the data in the grid if they have a value selected. Here's my query:

[Code]....

What I need is if a user selects an Asset_Tag from a dropdown list the gridview should requery with the Asset_Tag as a parameter so only that record gets called up. Is there a way to do this in the selected indexchanged event? The same would hold true for the other DDLs. It seems like if I assigne the datasourse programmatically I lose the builtin sorting ability which isn't acceptible for this application.

Forms Data Controls :: Bind GridView From MDX Query (VB.NET)?

Apr 20, 2010

I am trying to bind a GridView to a MDX query using VB.NET. The MDX query is valid, as I am able to run it and get the desired results using the Microsoft Analysis Services MDX Sample Application - but I just can't figure out how to go about connecting to it in the VB code for my aspx page and then binding it to a GridView. I have been searching for a while now and keep hitting dead ends, and to be honest, a lot of what I have found has been over my head.

how to run a simple MDX query from VB.NET and bind it to a GridView?

Forms Data Controls :: Load Gridview With A Button?

Dec 20, 2010

Is there a way to load a gridview with a button rather than on page load?

Right now I'm trying by making enabled = false and visibile = false and then changing them via c# on the button_click event but its not working out. I get the error:

Data keys must be specified on GridView 'GridView1' before the selected data keys can be retrieved. Use the DataKeyNames property to specify data keys.

The gridview is dependent on several dropdown boxes which is why it shouldnt load until the button is pressed.

Forms Data Controls :: Binding SQL Query Results To A Gridview?

Aug 11, 2010

I have a gridview that I want to bind the results of a query to it once a user selects a value from a drop down list.

The query selects the same row from the same table but selects different fields based on the drop down list value selected

I get to the query selection but it does not refresh that page with the populated gridview.

Here's the code behind code

protected void ddlQuantity_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
SqlConnection connection = null;
connection = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["PSI_DB_1ConnectionString"].ConnectionString.ToString());
connection.Open();
String nEstno = Request.QueryString["id"];
int id = Convert.ToInt32(Request.QueryString["id"]);
string SQLquery = "";
switch (int.Parse(ddlQuantity.Text))
{
case 1:
SQLquery = "Select Quan1"etc...;
break;
case 2:
SQLquery = "Select Quan2"etc...;
break;
case 3:
SQLquery = "Select Quan3"etc...;
break;
case 4:
SQLquery = "Select Quan4"etc...;
break;
case 5:
SQLquery = "Select Quan5"etc...;
break;
}
SqlCommand Cmd = new SqlCommand(SQLquery, connection);
SqlDataReader Dr = Cmd.ExecuteReader();
if (Dr.HasRows)
{
gvEstQty.DataBind();
}
Cmd.Dispose();
connection.Close();
connection.Dispose();
}
