I would like to know how i could display data from an itemtemplate or any other form views/data-bound controls without having it render in tables? i know theres control adaptors, but is this reliable and will it work with asp.net 3.5?

How do you use the http POST method with a Grid View on another page. I am trying to use the POST method to send the ID from the selected row of a Grid View, I am using a link button set to fire the select command and it has the Post Back URL set, from one page and then retrieve the ID value on another page using an Object Data Source. Also, under the Defining Parameters, I am setting the ID parameter to Form Parameter Source and have entered the Grid Views name in the Form Field.
View 4 RepliesI have a gridView which is populated with the code below. This is working perfectly except for one issue. In the "Region" column, I need for each region name to be a hyperlink. If I set the row code to dr(0) = "<a href='table_display.aspx?IO_ID=" & objDataReader("IO_ID") & "'>" & objDataReader("Region") & "</a>" it actually displays the entire string of text from "<a href..." through "</a>", but not as a hyperlink. I have read in many places to manually put a hyperlink field in the aspx page, but I would really prefer to do this programmatically in the code-behind.

I am having trouble with displaying double data in gridview bound coulumn. I want it to display as it is... But it gets rounded off when displayed.
Like my 1.34 displays 1.00
1.57 - 2.00
and so on. But i want it to display as it is i mean with decimal points, without rounding it off.

I have done the itemtemplate and edittemplate,when I click on the button in itemtemplate, the edittemplate will show.But that row in itemtemplate will disappear.How can I keep that row in itemtemplate and ecotent in edittemplate both appear?
I've been using the Item Inserted event for my data controls, such as details view. I'm wondering if there are advantages to doing this with the data sources instead of the data control. There is a lot of overlap in the events provided by these two types of controls. Are there advantages to using the events raised by the data source instead of the ones raised by the data control itself. Should I be using the events raised by the data source instead of the control used to enter the data?

Gridview should hve edit and delete link button atlast. In c# pgm thr should be a sql connection when values are entered in textboxes after clicking Insert button it should insert value in gridview and also in database. If the edit button is clicked the values should display in textbox and their only we should update the values and main thing we click on edit link button the INSERT button should change to UPDATE button after updating the updated values it should save in gridview and also in database and after updating it should chance again to insert button.
The delete button shld delete the selected row in gridview.

If the gridview binds to empty dataset, I need to still show a gridview so that users can ADD more using the textfields in the bottom of the footer template. Since the gridview is empty it won't bind not allowing rendering of the <footer template> I guess I should create a empty dataset if the gridview is empty. How do I check for this and can this be done in GridviewRowEventArgs

I am writing an insert form (like a survey/questionaire) for a web site to collection data that will call for interactively displaying data from one table after the user enters data for the form; I think it would be like a lookup in standadrd db design, however based on the using it on the web I get stuck on the exact coding requirements.I am currently using Visual Web Designer 2008 Express with the smartdbforms.net tool loaded to create insert, edit & update data to a MSSQL2008 db.
Example:
A Customer logs in to the website and chooses the link to enter data to the database. I have a blank insert mode form for them to fill in the answers to 12 questions (using a smartdbforms.net insert form). The first box is for them to enter their ID#. What I would like is for the first and last name of the user to be displayed on the form (next to the entry box)based on a lookup of the ID# they entered and have it display after they enter it. That data is stored in a differnet table in the SQL2008 db.The db is setup with a insert form data table (empty), and various data info tables that are prefilled to use for validation and edit. I am a windows db designer who is new to the ASP.Net web interfacing commands.

This is my gridview with an item template, I have NO boundColumns.TO get data to codebehind I use Eval(" <Field name >"), but this returns something to a control. Not making data available for codebehind code for general use.
Question: As I have no boundcolumns I dont know how to get data to codebehind to to use as I wish??
I am using gridview to display some columns with autogenerate column as 'true' and not added boundfields,headers.
And i am used stored preocedure for data source in gridview and i used dataset for gridview databind.
The gridview columns comes dynamically for each time.
When I bind my listview with a typed dataset the textbox is filled with spaces up to its max length.
For example if I have "ABC" in the typed dataset and the textbox has a max length of 5 it will actually bind "ABC ".
I know I could trim it ont he databound event, but I shouldn't have to.
I'm having a problem sorting a dropdown that I've bound to a SQL Server data source. I've narrowed the problem down to the fact that I have a static item at the top of the dropdown with the data-bound items appended afterwards. If I remove the static item (<asp:ListItem Value="-1" Text="All" />) the ORDER BY part of the select clause works fine. How can I get around this issue? What I would like is to have the "All" static item at the top of the list with the data-bound items sorted alphabetically afterwards. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and ASP.NET 4 if it makes any difference.

I am looking for a method to format gridview bound data using javascript.
I know you can have custom formating in Eval using:

But I am looking for a way to perform this task on client side, rather than doing it on the server.
For example if I want to format a date field being bound in a custom way, something like emails date received in gmail. (Only show time if it is today's date [15:30] and only show day and month if it is this year date [14 Jan] and show the full date if it is not this year [10/10/2009].
So, how I use javascript to format a field (ie. custom date format or setting a control visibility)?
I have a gridview, which on the row data bound method that inserts a row when comparing values on a particular field. If the two values are different, a new row is inserted, if not no row is inserted. This coding is working as a grouping gridview, and is working correctly. However, I have problem, and problem is counting the rows between each group, which I want to display in my blank row between each group, the value of which I am holding in a hiddenfield.
When I try to do it, the first group doesn't show the result, but is displayed on the next group. I am pretty sure that I am doing something wrong. My approach is that if the value between the last row and the existing row are different, then the value is one, on the next row data bound event, if the values are the same then the value is increased by one, else the value is one because it is a new group. Here is my code:

I have some data which contains angle brackets in some of the fields.Even if properly escaped as <: or > (or even the hex codes), or contained in CDATA, in Visual Studio 2005 ASP.Net, the field data is being truncated at the first angle bracket. If I replace the data with curly braces, it displays fine.Is this a parser defect in the TreeView control? I can use Response.Write and see that the data provided by the XmlDataSource is fine. Example:

This truncates right after TT Description. If I change to curly braces or parentheses, it displays fine.
I have a web form, and an "add vendor" button. Click the button, a modal dialog pops up (ajax:ModalPopupExtender). User selects one of two radio buttons which shows a data bound asp:View in an update panel - this view is data bound to a single row and must be populated by the user. However I also want to provide a cancel button which should close the modal dialog and reset the bound view.
However what is happening is that the ModalExtender closes, but when the "add vendor" button is presented again, it's still bound to the same data. Do I need to clear my data source? How so I reset the forms/views so that when the 'add vendor' button is clicked again the form is presented as it should be (IE the 2 select options, picking one re-binds the asp:View)?

I am populating data into formfields when i select checkbox in a grid view with the following code.I have 20 record set in database,Quotenumber(Main column) starts 3001 ,3002,3003..........3020.I am allowing duplicate entries meant that i have 4 recordset only on 3000 quotenumber like wise i may have 3or more record set on 3010,problem here is when i select first one of 3000(Quotenumber) it is supposed to populate the record set of first one of 3000 but only last one of 3000(quotenumber) is getting populated into form field.Can any one provide solution to this.

I need to develop a custom data-bound control which will contain, few text-boxes, drop-down lists, labels, and other standard web-server controls. And, I want to be able to load this control from a web page on button click. When the user enters any data to any of its child controls, i should be able to save, and also retrieve when the data-bound control is loaded again. Also, the data in the child control should retain their value on postback. What approach should i follow?
