I want to find a control in gridview using client id of the control as the id is changing dynamically. I am getting the client id but it is not getting assigned in a variable whether of string type or object type.
the code is as follows...................

this is fetching client id but not assign it to expdate.............

in gridview i hv columns like
name | phno. | emp_name(in dropdown) | buttonfield
wen user comes on this page this grid comes filled but then I need to select 1 emp_name from dropdown and click button(in last column) corresponding to that row. then on clicking that row button it should fetch that toq Primary Key and dropdown corresponding id. how? Wen I m fetching its fetching row index as 0 though it is no.4 record as per database(coz my records are in desc.order). I mean its giving row index as per grid and not as per my actual table(primary key).

I have two databases (DB1 & DB2) from which i wish to build a single table/gridview output, ideally i want to be able to sort the table by using any data.
However i cannot seem to figure out how to have more than one datasource per Gridview, and if i have more than one Gridviews then i can't sort all the data by any of the columns.
This is a oneway street, i do not want to update the databases from the webfront end.

I have a gridview with a template field column. In the edittemplate of that column i have a textbox. In the next column of the gridview i have a button. When i click the button i need to find the value of the before mentioned textbox. I do it like this:
gridview1.selectedrow.findcontrol("textbox1"). This sometimes work just fine and without a problem but sometimes it seems it can't find that control and throws a null reference object. The error it's random like i said, sometimes just work and other just don't work...

I have been trying to achieve the following:
1-Allow the user to change the quantity in a textbox i.e // "txtQuantity"
2-capture the newly entered quantity i.e //int integerNewQuantity= int.Parse(textNewQuantity.Text);
3-update the database using the newly entered quantity i.e. //UpdateItem(data,integerNewQuantity)
Problem:1-I have not been able to capture the text i.e. the newly entered quantity i.e. the value entered in the text box "txtQuantity"
2-Hence the database is updated using the existing value and NOT the new value unless I make a constant assignment as below:
textNewQuantity.Text = "2"; When tested the assignment of any number correctly updates the database. see the c# code:

My application has GRID VIEW control, which displays, Folder Name and Folder Path. While rendering in the webpage, i want to display only the Folder Name. For this, i set the visible property to false. Now iam able to display only Folder Name column.
Now the problem is, though iam hiding the Folder path column, i want to retrieve, the Folder path, when user clicks on submit button. Iam getting empty value for the hidden column.

I am working with Asp.net 2.0, C# and Sqlserver 2005. I have a web page with gridview and Button. On button click, I should be able to export the gridview to a excel file and open that file as an attachment to a user's default mail client. I tried with the below options but didnot succeed.
1. mailto : I tried with this option but not able to open the mail client with attachment.
2. Outlook interop : Using Outlook COM reference, I can able to open excel file as on attachment to default mail client, but this is working fine on local system but not on the production server. I am not sure whether I can implement this kind of functionality using web application as some people say this is a security issue.

I am looking for a method to format gridview bound data using javascript.
I know you can have custom formating in Eval using:

But I am looking for a way to perform this task on client side, rather than doing it on the server.
For example if I want to format a date field being bound in a custom way, something like emails date received in gmail. (Only show time if it is today's date [15:30] and only show day and month if it is this year date [14 Jan] and show the full date if it is not this year [10/10/2009].
So, how I use javascript to format a field (ie. custom date format or setting a control visibility)?

I have a list box (that uses a SQlDataSource) that has a list of jobs. I have a grid view (that also uses a SQLDataSource) that has the items used in each job. I want to bind the list box value to the gridview on the client side, i.e. when the user clicks on a different job in the list view I want the grid to show the items for that job.
Also, at formload I want the gridview to show the details of the first job on the listview.

I have a Gridview with ID "GVSeasonsOfResort" which has selectable rows.
One of the fields in that gridview is RSLinkID which is an ID field of the table from which ths SQLDataSource driving the gridview gets its data.
I have a textbox outside the gridview with ID TxtBxRSLinkID and when I select a row of the Gridview, I want to assign the value of the RSLinkID field of the selected row to the TxtBxRSLinkID.

I've a GridView bound to an object data source which gets data from a remote server. The GridView is inside an AJAX UpdatePanel. For each GridView row, I have a status data item for a person's status(like busy, free, etc.) and I need to show a running timer since a person has been in the current status. Different persons can be in different status at different times and so running timer for each person needs to be different and should be reset when a person changes status. Is it possible to show such a running timer for a cell in each row of a GridView and manipulate it differently i.e. start, stop and reset each instance individually?
