Web Forms :: How To Display Text From Selected Dropdownlist Item Without Using Button
Feb 20, 2011I have one label and one dropdownlist which contain "red" and "blue". When I select "red" from dropdownlist, the label will display "You select RED" and if I select "blue", it will display "You select BLUE". The text is display immediatelly after selected without using BUTTON.
I have try to put the codes in Page_Load but not functioning, below is my code:

May 7, 2010Here's what I want to accomplish: I have two .aspx pages, the first page with a ddl to select a vendor (SelectVendor.aspx), and one to add a vendor (NewVendor.aspx), if it's not in the first one. If a user adds a new vendor on the NewVendor.aspx page I want the page to automatically redirect back to SelectVendor.aspx and have the ddl automatically select the new vendor that was just added. Here's where I'm at so far: If a vendor is not listed in the ddl on SelectVendor.aspx, a user can click a button to navigate to a page to add a new vendor (NewVendor.aspx). On NewVendor.aspx the user types the name of the new vendor in a textbox and clicks an insert button to add the new vendor, then the page is automatically redirected back to SelectVendor.aspx with the new vendor name added to the QueryString. For example, let's say a user adds a vendor name "Best Vendor": The page is redirected back to SelectVendor.aspx as "SelectVendor.aspx ?vendor=Best Vendor"Now all I need from here is to have the ddl programmatically select the new vendor by the text value in the QueryString.

Mar 14, 2010I am using Asp.net with C#.
I have one gridivew, which is showing 20 records. And also, in item template of Gridview, I used one dropdownlist. It means there are 20 dropdownlist with all the 20 rows. That dropdownlist is already binded, means showing the records/items - 8 items. No issue with this.
Now, what I want is, when ever, I select any item from the drodownlist against each row in that gridview and click on the button "Save", it will save the id of all row with all the values of dropdownlist.

Mar 24, 2010I have 2 dropdownlist controls (ddl1 and ddl2). When I pick an item from ddl1, it will update ddl2. The problem is when I pick an item in ddl2, it always selects the first item in the list. Is it that the ddl2 autopostback causes the first ddl1 to reload and results the ddl2 to be refreshed also? Or I didn't set something correctly?

But it isn't working, instead the Text value is literally <%= Resources.Get("USA") %> and not the string "USA".
i.e. it is not being interpreted as code.

For some reason, when I select a different item it does not change in the formview. Only the first item of the list shows up. I don't know where I'm doing wrong. I tried many things and suggested informatioin and I still could not get it to work. When I do try to switch I get this error message:

Sep 22, 2010i'm using asp.net 3.5 and what im trying to do is create the dropdownlist item dynamically base on value in each datarow, then user select from dropdownlist and click button to postback, when postback system should be able to know what value has been selected by user. the problem with following code is during postback, event of "OnItem_Created" get fired and e.Item.DataItem return null, therefore the dropdownlist will not get populated with the items and that caused the dropdownlist unable to return value selected by user. am i missing anything? is "OnItemCreated" the best place to dynamic create the dropdownlist item?

Aug 16, 2010I have seen several Web Sites that use GridViews that have lookup fields with different Value and Text Fields (as in drop down lists) but I can't seem to figure it out how to display the Text Field in the Item Template when the Text Field is not in the datasource. .
Here's what I have. I have a Gridview whose datasource is a Linq to SQL Invoice table, e.g.
InvoiceID
CustomerID
InvoiceNumber
THe Customer table is related to the Invoice Table thru the CustomerID. The relationship is defined in SQL Server and is displayed in the DBML.
I have created a template field for the CustomerID field in the Gridview. I would like to display the CustomerName when the Item Template is displayed and a DropDownList in the Edit Template. The DropDownList works great, but I cannot seem to figure out how to display the CustomerName in then Item Template.
I seem to remember seeing in some video that you can simply drag the CustomerName into the CustomerID Item Template Field. But I can't seem to find the customerName field. The DataSource includes the Customer Table because of the relationship, but no fields are displayed.
I suspect this is real simple, but I cannot seem to find an article or video that explains how to do this.

May 25, 2010I have a link button in my gridview. It is populating correctly; however, being I am populating the values in the gridview using "Eval()" method I don't know how to get the value of the selected Link Button (which is only selected by a user actually clicking
the Link Button).
The user can click on the text directly (instead of showing the "Select" auto created). I want to be able to capture the item they have clicked on's Text property.
Example:Column 1

When the click on "Value2" I want the text property to be stored in a string variable (In this case the text would be "Value2"). In the past I have captured this through GridView.SelectedValue; however, I am not using autopopulate selected button so I need to do this manually and I am unsure as to how I will do this.
