I got this to populate the dropdownlist, but I'm not sure how to setup the codebehind to insert the selected value when I select it and hit "insert" in the detailsview.

I have a listview set up in "flow" mode where the existing records are all on an extended page so you can scroll down to any record.
The InsertItem Template is in the first position, making it easy to insert a new record.
And one can scroll down the page to any record, click the edit button and update that record -- nice having everything on one scrollable page.
I am running into a problem with validations. I have validation controls restricting inputs for all the textboxes on the Insert Item template. They work fine. And on Item Inserted I am running a page validation:

which works fine also.
The problem occurs when I scroll down to an existing record, and go to edit it. I have all the same validation constraints on the textboxes for the EditItemTemplate as I have on the InsertItemTemplate. But I cannot successfully do a page validation on updating the record. The code I am using on update is:

This results in a Cancel even if there are no validation errors on the InsertItemTemplate because the Page.Validate() seems to be causing the InsertItemTemplate to think its fields should be filled out also.

All the controls in the Edit Item template are part of ValidationGroup "edit1" and those of the InsertItem Template are part of ValidationGroup "edit2"
How can I get around receiving validation errors on the InsertItem Template when I am trying to validate just the EditItemTemplate when both are present on the page?

I've been trying to find a solution to my problem for about 2 days now, and have found nothing. I am new to .net and not really sure how to accomplish this. I have 4 tables in a database, Vendors, RepairCos, Cons, ConRepairHistory. What I'm trying to do is make a page called SendOutForRepair.aspx that has a insert item template where the first control is a dropdownlist that is attached to the Cons table (got this figured out) and is populated with the Serial Number field. View 1 RepliesWhat I'm trying to do is: I have a listview control on my page and in my code behind, I created an SQLDataSource object which I defined its Select, Delete, Update and Insert Command strings. I then binded that datasource to my listview. When I load the page, it's obvious the select command works. however, when I perform the insert, the ItemInserted event triggers, but the itemInserted doesn't trigger and there is nothing inserted in my database.I'm not sure what to do here. I also hard coded the insert values in my insert command. So it's not depending on the form values.

Under this GridView1 I have a FormView1 where I use the ItemInsertTemplate to Insert new rows in my database (which shows the data in GridView1). The first textbox (BIDTextBox) i have on this template, contains text which identify a person. I would like to have a routine which checks if the same value that is entered in the BIDTextBox allready exists in the database. This routine should be fired upon leaving the control BIDTextBox.
I have tried with some stored procedure in my database, but that dosn't seem to do the trick. The most logical to me seems to do a loop thru my table "Ansatte" in my database using sql, selecting any occurence from the field "BID" in my table "Ansatte" that is simillar to the text entered in the BIDTextBox.

I have one gridivew, which is showing 20 records. And also, in item template of Gridview, I used one dropdownlist. It means there are 20 dropdownlist with all the 20 rows. That dropdownlist is already binded, means showing the records/items - 8 items. No issue with this.
Now, what I want is, when ever, I select any item from the drodownlist against each row in that gridview and click on the button "Save", it will save the id of all row with all the values of dropdownlist.
I have 2 dropdownlist controls (ddl1 and ddl2). When I pick an item from ddl1, it will update ddl2. The problem is when I pick an item in ddl2, it always selects the first item in the list. Is it that the ddl2 autopostback causes the first ddl1 to reload and results the ddl2 to be refreshed also? Or I didn't set something correctly?

I have been trying for a while to populate a formview when I select an item from the dropdownlist. The dropdownlist is outside of the formview. For some reason, when I select a different item it does not change in the formview. Only the first item of the list shows up. I don't know where I'm doing wrong. I tried many things and suggested informatioin and I still could not get it to work. When I do try to switch I get this error message:

I have a gridview in which one of the columns is a DropDownList.
In another column I have a TextBox and a button next to it.
I want to use the OnClick event of the button to add the text in the The TextBox as a new list item in the DropDownList of that row.

i'm using asp.net 3.5 and what im trying to do is create the dropdownlist item dynamically base on value in each datarow, then user select from dropdownlist and click button to postback, when postback system should be able to know what value has been selected by user. the problem with following code is during postback, event of "OnItem_Created" get fired and e.Item.DataItem return null, therefore the dropdownlist will not get populated with the items and that caused the dropdownlist unable to return value selected by user. am i missing anything? is "OnItemCreated" the best place to dynamic create the dropdownlist item?

Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. error when I place a drop down list into my instert item template of my listview, but I have the exact same control in my edit view and it works fine, any reason I am getting this error? I know what it means but why would it work in the edit mode, and not the insert mode?
View 2 RepliesI figure that this should be relatively straightforward, but I still can't get it to work. I have a gridview and a detailsview to set up shifts for students and teachers. I would like to be able to insert new shifts using a detailsview. I will limit the students, teachers and location to items that are in a dropdownlist. The problem is that when I handle the iteminserting event. the e.values collection doesn't contain all of the fields I want to populate. How do I add the new fields to the list. This is my codebehind:

I have a dropdownlist in the edititemtemplate of a detailsview. The dropdownlist is bound with an objectdatasource. The detailsview is bound to a seperate objectdatasource which connects it to the insert method. When the page loads the dropdownlist is bound properly. However, when I make a selection and select insert I get the following error: Could not find a property named 'DeptID' on the type specified by the DataObjectTypeName property in ObjectDataSource 'objCurrentProduct'. I've tried to remove the SelectedValue='<%# Bind("DeptID") %> attribute. I can then insert without an exception being thrown but the selected value of the dropdown is not recognized. I thought this one would be easy, but no go. What I am trying to do is the following: I have two DropDownLists in my InsertItemTemplate, each bound to its own datasource. After the fields in this form have been filled out and the ItemInserting event fires, I rebind the ListView to its datasource, but the DropDownLists turn out empty. I tried to bind them in the ItemInserting event and it seems they get filled, but nothing shows up in them when the page loads. I also tried to fill them in the ItemDataBound event, but the e.Item.ItemType == InsertItem doesn't do it.
How can I fill those DropDownLists?
I have a formview with insert function into "table1". In that formview i also have a dropdownlist listed with records from "table2". (This dropdown is of course instead of a textbox). get "table1" inserted when one of the field is from a different table?
View 1 Replieshere is my latest bit of insanity. I'm using a formview control. In the insert template, I'm grabbing applicable values from my AD to populate a dropdown list. I select the user I want to insert, enter the other pieces of info required for my request and click Insert. The query responds back stating that the userid is NULL. So the big question in my mind is how can I bind userid to the dropdownlist if I'm populating that from the code behind? Here's my code behind code for that list:
