I am new here, I was thinking about using a text box to function as a search box. For example, I key in the ID, the value will be searched in the SQL database and return other values in the same row. I was thinking of combining this with GRIDVIEW.

What I like to achieve is to allow users to search the data using both dropdownlist and the textbox. i.e., the listitems of the dropdownlist are Othello, Tempest and twelfth night. I have a page where my user enters a search term and submits it against my database. What I want to happen is when the result(s) return, I want headings to pop up over my gridviews. For example, I want "Photographs" to appear over my gridview for photographs, "Documents" to appear of my gridview for documents, etc...
When I run my page, those headers are already there, even though I have not conducted a search yet and my gridviews have not populated. If I go into properties and select visible=false, they never show up, which is not exactly what I want either. I have read about literals, textboxes, panels, and have confused myself.

Its working fine for PDF / doc files but not working for .JPG files.
Basically i have some document scanned and stored it in varbinnary datatype in DB.
I am able to search for .doc /.xml /.pdf files .. but not able to search .jpg.
also i am not getting ".jgp" extension in result of following query

i know how do the paging with normal return query using row number in sql server, but i'm looking how to do the paging , sql server full text search returning result.

1) User types in name of the person he wants to search in the search field and clicks enter
2) on the same page, the search result will come out with an "add friend" button beside every name
3) when the user clicks the "add friend" button, he will be brought to another page (or pop up with a message box?) with a text message field to send to the friend, and a submit button to submit the friend request.
4) over at the Friend's page, he will be able to view the add friend request and decide whether to accept or deny the friend request.
i'm bindng data to gridview using bound field.one column of gridview is linkbutton.if the text is more than the cell width then the gridview width is increasing automatically.for ex if i have text like "microsoft asp.net forums" then it's displaying the whole text.but i need that text like "microsoft.....".how to display like this in gridview?

I have a gridview that is dynamically created and have finished all but one problem - I need for my code that is within a Public Shared Function to access a textbox string - In the below I need myinput to return the string so that my query's can use the variable - the below shows: Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the class.
If I remove the "Shared" the error goes away however it crashes other parts. (if I hard code the text then all works as expected)

I have a gridview being loaded via a Databind to a MembershipUserCollection
This works fine, but I need to add one more Column with data not found in the collection, so i added a TemplateField and a Label to my Gridview and in the TEXT prop of the label is where my problem is.
The function call is working, but my problem lies with providing the Datafield="UserName" value from the same row in GridView in the function call
