Just spent about 8 hours googling and looking through this forum for a solution on how to make sure that I can dynamically sort. Here is the situation.
I have 1 Gridview that displays 10 different scenarios based on what button is clicked.
I am also returning only top 10 records. I am doing all of the data binding pragmatically. So I have BoundFields, HyperLinkFields etc.
I also want to sort some records. When I change DataSource SQL statement the gridview somehow remembers what the last sort value was and it errors out saying that value "x" cannot be sorted because it does not exists.
Here I get an error that says that the data source does not support sorting? Doesnt it say gridview1.allowsorting = false;
I also tried gridview1.sort("", SortDirection.Ascending); This does nothin... except query my database one more time because i have a onSorting event that looks like this:
[Code]....
Here is an example of just one of those SLQ statements inside GetSQLQuery:
I'm new to ASP.net (and coding in general) and I was very impressed about how easy is to learn enough to create something useful :)
Unfortunately, now I'm stuck on a problem involving gridview sorting and paging: I created a master gridview bound to an sqldatasource, I enabled sorting and paging and then I linked it to a detailsview to enable editing and inserting.
In addition, I set up two other gridviews whose datasources depend on the master gridview.
When a user selects a row and modifies it in the detailsview, the sort takes place and the row is often moved to another page. This can be a little confusing, especially because there are other controls relying on the selected row of the master gridview.
There's a way to find and select the page of the selected row after gridview's databind and sort take place? I tried creating a dataview to search the index of the selected datakey in the databound event of my gridview, but it doesn't work, because it seems that the rows aren't sorted yet. Maybe I should choose another event?
i have a gridview that has the ability to sort by each of the columns, but suppose if i'm on page 2 of the results and sort any of the columns, it jumps back to page 1. is there a way to keep it on page 2, still have the sorted date work?
I have 2 gridviews. How to select automatically the first row of my gridview and based on that selection i have to display the first row values of second gridview in pageload
I have records in a Gridview, when I click on the NAME of each item I want to open up and new page and display a more detailed view of the record, i.e. the extra details from the table. I have the following code setup:
I have a 3 text boxes. When i enter datas in and click the button it displays the gridview with filtered data. Now my problem is if there is no data in gridview it has to show "no data" so I used emptydatatext property.. The problem is, in the page load itself it shows "no data"
i m working on application that works similar to our email i.e when user enter his emailid and password his inbox should be display and those unread should be in bold and i have a treeview forinbox,sent,deleted .when inbox is selected the inbox detail should be displayed using gridview by default like in email the inbox data shoul be display on pageload so i have written databind code for grid view in page load event
I have a gridview with data. I want a button which is not part of the gridview. Then if I press a button the gridview is sorted by two colums. i.e column1 ascending column2 descending.
I am not looking to work with a Sqldatasource as I use a data access layer. So the sort would have to be from a datatable and databind or directly with the gridview.
I have a gridview in which I have the autopaging option set to true, when i load the grid everything works on the first page, i can even go to second page , but when i click the edit button nothing happens and after that any click blows up the page giving me error Faile to load view state.
I have a datasource (quite heavy to run) and a Gridview on the page.
By default when the page is loaded the datasource and Gridview bind and display. However since the datasource is heavy I want on page load these 2 will not bind.
I want them to bind only on a button click. How to stop the datasource and Gridview from binding on 1st page load ?
I have an issue that I've spent quite a bit of time trying to solve. I have a Detailsview and a Gridview that I have linked using the ID field, It has now been decided that they want to have individual pages for each Unit. I have this working for the most part, however the detailsview is not being displayed until I hit select the row in the gridview.
How do I get this to automatically display on page load?
A few questions regarding detailsview and gridview:
1) when page load, how can I default the detailsview to show the first record from the gridview? SelectedIndex does not have any effect to my detailsview.
[Code]....
2) how can I select a record in the gridview if my table has 2 key fields using below syntax?
I want to create simple rating page where player's place,name and rating is displayed. I've created database with ID,Name and Rating Columns, binded Gridview to this database and created TemplateField "Place". With following code I've created numbered list for Place:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){ for (int i = 0; i < GridView1.Rows.Count; i++)
I'm a newbie to .NET, so the solution might be really trivial. I have a database, I have an Entity Data Model, I add in my Index.aspx page an EntitryDataSource and a GridView. I connect them and everything works fine (the data is displayed as expected). The problem is that clicking on the coulmn name or on the pagination lists doesnt do a thing... Although I did set the properties AllowSorting="True" and AllowPaging="True". I also tried with another datasource type (SqlDataSource) and the same problem.
i am having a gridview in which all columns get dynamically added, i applied sorting in it, all column added as boundcolumn get sort properly but two column which are added as templated column do'nt get sort. Though my dataview have these column as it is.
