Forms Data Controls :: Set The Selectparameter Of Objectdatasource In Usercontrol From Dropdownlist In Parent?
Jan 7, 2010
How do I set the selectparameter of Objectdatasource in usercontrol from dropdownlist in parent page?I tried the following but when I select a new value in the dropdownlist it does not change the data from the initial page load
Protected Sub ODSLocations_Selecting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ObjectDataSourceSelectingEventArgs) Handles ODSLocations.Selecting
Dim ntid As DropDownList = CType(Me.Parent.FindControl("DDLEmployees"), DropDownList)
e.InputParameters("ntid") = ntid.SelectedValue
End Sub
I created a Function called GetWordsLike("word") it look in database to get some words that they are like "word". i also have a TextBox in my page to get "word" from User.
i use ObjectDataSource to databind a gridView and this ObjectDataSource use the GetWordsLike("word") Function to get the data frome database.
now i need to give this "word" to ObjectDataSource programatic.
I'm using a FormView which has odsMain as the datasource. I am also using a dropdownlist which is being populated with objectdatasource odsddl.
I'd like to set the selectedvalue of the dropdownlist with the value contained in odsMain (the current record value for it). Is there any way this can be done?
I am having two dropdownlist in my project, one dropdownlist for empid, another dropdownlist for month, if the user select the empid, the values are retrieved in the textbox.
In the second dropdownlist, if the user select the month in the dropdownlist it will display the leave details, its all working fine, if the user again select the first dropdownlist that means empid, I want to show the second dropdownlist as select month, how can do this.....
I am really sorry for this, but this is such a bizarre situation I don't know where to turn. I have a stored procedure that takes four parameters (two dates, a positionID, a userID). The SQLDataSource is very generic:
[Code]....
and I set the parameters via this code:
[Code]....
When this executes, no matter what the value of PositionID, it acts as if the PositionID is zero. Now, if I remove PositionID variable and add the number:
[Code]....
All is well. Also, when I look at the parameter in the immediate window, it appears to be correct:
Everything was good before I bumped into the problem when declarative binding (SelectedValue='<# Bind("SvcCluster_Id") >') produced the error, because value has not been found in the list. So i moved binding to the code:
protected void frmConfigEdit_DataBound(Object sender, System.EventArgs e) { if (frmConfigEdit.CurrentMode == FormViewMode.Edit) { var svcCluster_id = DataBinder.Eval(frmConfigEdit.DataItem, "SvcCluster_id"); var ddlCluster = (DropDownList)frmConfigEdit.FindControl("ddlCluster"); if (svcCluster_id != null && ddlCluster.Items.FindByValue(svcCluster_id.ToString()) != null) { ddlCluster.SelectedValue = svcCluster_id.ToString(); } } }
But now seems like this happens later than ObjectDataSource tries to access frmConfigEdit$ddlCluster...
How to manage this?
I wouldn't like to move everything to the code (I mean creating Control parameters, etc)
p.s. Oops, actually it works ok for DataBound event! Sorry.
I am trying to get my Nested ListView to work. I have my parent List View supplying the correct information, but I can't seem to set the SelectParameter Value for my Nested ListView. I am using SQLDataSources for both. I read your comment about adding a Hidden Field. Where Should that field be located. Right now I have it inside my Parent ItemTemplate but nothing is happening. Currently I have both DataSource outside my Parent ListView. I tried moved the nested ds inside with the list view but I still was not able to grab the hidden field values either. Here's what I have:
I'm using a ListView (e.g topListView) with paged rows (using a DataPager). One of the topListView's features is when a user clicks on one of its rows, its SelectedValue property is used to populate a SelectParameter in another SQLDataSource control that populates another ListView (e.g. bottomListView). It's working fine. Even when the webpage first loads, the SelectedValue of first row of the topListView is successfully being used to generate content in the bottomListView.
However, when one of the DataPager's buttons is clicked, the SelectedValue seems to be ignored, and the bottomListView isn't refreshing. And yet, when you click a DataPager button again, it works. basically it's taking TWO clicks of the pager for the SelectedIndex to be read. I've tried assigning the SelectedIndex to 0 in the PagePropertiesChanged and PagePropertiesChanging handlers but no luck (even with calls to bottomListView.DataBind(); and/or SQLDataSource1.DataBind(); after index assignment).
assigning the index seems unecessary though, since top row content is being rendered correctly in a SelectedItemTemplate after clicking any DataPager button. to me that means the SelectedIndex is being set to 0 when the page is being re-rendered.
i have created a usercontrol that get some input from the user in the textbox. now i want to get that value in my page containing the same user control.
I have a user control that has an event that checks if a textbox is empty and does other processing...this event would also set a publ;ic property on the user control to a boolean value.
1) On the host page/parent, I want to click a button that will set off the event explained above.
2) Also, how do I reference the user control on the host page?
I have a page for webparts and have a usercontrol in the declarativecatalog. The user control had a gridview. I need to click (select) an item (row) in the gridview and change the selected value of the DDL in the parent (I guess this is the appropriate term) page.
My default page has a usercontrol that opens up a modal to allow updates. When the user closes the modal window I want the usercontrol that resides on the default page to update.
it looks like this
default.aspx has userControl1 user can open up a modal from userControl1 modal has textboxes for updating
when user closed modal I want to then refresh userControl1 on the default.aspx page without reloading the entire default.aspx page.
I have a web form that contains a dropdownlist which shows list of cities in it. I have an add button on click of which I am opening a Popup window to open a new page that contains a text box where in i am entering new city name and submit button.
I want that after click submit button the window should be closed and on the parent page the dropdownlist gets refreshed with the new value. I am able to do it but the whole page gets postbacked which I do not want. I have added the dropdownlist in the update panel but not able to do the partial postback.
In a page , when I click a button 'showDialog' I am loading the user control dynamically in a dialog. I am linking to the event in the user control as explained below. The parent page is not receiving this event.
Button_Click(){ UseControl1 gc = dlg.LoadContent(:UserControl1.csx); gc.CausePostback += new EventHandler(execute_CausePostback());} execute_CausePostback(){ In UserControl class after clicking the submit button Submit_Click(){ saveRecord(); raise event CausePostBack();
I have several usercontrols which are loaded based on business logic. However, all of them have webcontrols whose selected/entered value needs to be accessible in parent page on an event.Since there can be any combination of UserControls, I do not want to load all the UserControls in the Parent Page, since they are heavy.
I would like to load only those controls which are supposed to appear on the page, yet access the value from the usercontrol which caused the postback. (I would rather not access using Request.Form) (ViewState is open, but unsuccessful to store value in parent page's viewstate in onClick)Here is a sample scenario
Page: Home
Dynamically Loads: UserControls1
UserControls has TextBox tb and Button btn, causing onClick
When btn is clicked, I want to get value of tb in parent page on PostBack, Page creates UserControl2
I'm trying to use an object Data Source as the source for a dropdown list. I have an objectDataSource that returns a data reader with two columns DepartmentID and DepartmentName. I have also tested this returning a dataset.
When I try to choose the datasource for the ddl, I can select the objectDataSource departmentdb, but I cannot select the display or value fields. I can type in the names of the fields but the page throws the error. If I click on refresh schema, not fields are displayed. I can do this easily with a SQL Data Source.
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
What am I missing? Can you use a datareader as the source for a dropdownlist?
How to get the parent page values from the usercontrol.I have a usercontrol in a page. On click of the usercontrols button i wanna get some values from the page after executing a method. i need those values in my usercontrol. What is the best way to get the results of the page in the usercontrol.
I'm working with Linq and I'm using with ObjectDataSource that have SelectParameters tag for inserting default parameters to object.
How can I set <DefaultValue> for an array parameter ?? (i.e : object that have 2 parameters - string and array of int , I can set <DefaultValue> for the string but I don't know how to do it for array)
If for example my userControl has a CheckBox called IsGreatCoder and the userControl is embedded in a main page (parent page).
I normally have gained access to the IsGreatCoder.Checked value in the main-page by exposing it through a public property that I have to manually write (say "IsAGreatCoder").
If UserControl is included in the main page as "userControl1", then I would access it as "userControl1.IsAGreatCoder".
But, I was wondering if there was anyway to declare the UserControl such that all the UI controls added to it were declared as being public, that way allowing me to gain access to the actual controls in the main page (the parent).
Essentially I would like to be able do something like userControl1.IsGreatCoder.Checked instead of having to implement a property.
The reason I want to do this is that I want to have access to many more of the check-box's properties and it would be a pain to implement each one as a public property.
Running both statements above in the query analyzer it WILL return me different results. Why? Someone mentioned that it looks like I don't have correct data type specified for SQLParameter in .Net application. I was asked to create something like:
