I'm trying to use an object Data Source as the source for a dropdown list. I have an objectDataSource that returns a data reader with two columns DepartmentID and DepartmentName. I have also tested this returning a dataset.
When I try to choose the datasource for the ddl, I can select the objectDataSource departmentdb, but I cannot select the display or value fields. I can type in the names of the fields but the page throws the error. If I click on refresh schema, not fields are displayed. I can do this easily with a SQL Data Source.
Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
What am I missing? Can you use a datareader as the source for a dropdownlist?

I'm using a FormView which has odsMain as the datasource. I am also using a dropdownlist which is being populated with objectdatasource odsddl.
I'd like to set the selectedvalue of the dropdownlist with the value contained in odsMain (the current record value for it). Is there any way this can be done?

Protected Sub ODSLocations_Selecting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ObjectDataSourceSelectingEventArgs) Handles ODSLocations.Selecting
Dim ntid As DropDownList = CType(Me.Parent.FindControl("DDLEmployees"), DropDownList)
e.InputParameters("ntid") = ntid.SelectedValue

I have following in many controls:
<asp:ControlParameter Name="SvcCluster_Id" ControlID="frmConfigEdit$ddlCluster" PropertyName="SelectedValue" />
Everything was good before I bumped into the problem when declarative binding (SelectedValue='<# Bind("SvcCluster_Id") >') produced the error, because value has not been found in the list. So i moved binding to the code:
protected void frmConfigEdit_DataBound(Object sender, System.EventArgs e)
{
if (frmConfigEdit.CurrentMode == FormViewMode.Edit)
{
var svcCluster_id = DataBinder.Eval(frmConfigEdit.DataItem, "SvcCluster_id");
var ddlCluster = (DropDownList)frmConfigEdit.FindControl("ddlCluster");
if (svcCluster_id != null && ddlCluster.Items.FindByValue(svcCluster_id.ToString()) != null)
{
ddlCluster.SelectedValue = svcCluster_id.ToString();
}
}
}
But now seems like this happens later than ObjectDataSource tries to access frmConfigEdit$ddlCluster...
How to manage this?
I wouldn't like to move everything to the code (I mean creating Control parameters, etc)
p.s. Oops, actually it works ok for DataBound event! Sorry.

I´m filling a RadioButtonList using a ObjectDataSource. I would like that when I post back the page, the RadioButtonList has not rebind to the ObjectDataSource in order to keep the RadioButtonList selected value.

I have done my searching and haven't found anything related to my issue. I have an aspx page that contains a regular drop down control. When the selectedIndex is changed, it fires off a post back and also rebinds a datalist based on its value. Inside the datalist I have an ascx control which has a gridview and an object datasource:
ASPX page:
[Code]....
My problem is that after my drop down posts back, when the process gets to DataList1.databind (in the selected index changed) i get a "The ObjectDataSource control 'ObjectDataSource1b' does not have a naming container. Ensure that the control is added to the page before calling DataBind." error.
During the post back, the pageload on my control runs and all my properties seem to have its values.

I have a dynamically created wizard control in the Page Init subroutine and accompanying NextButtonClicked event attached. It seems that when clicking the next button in the wizard and firing the event which is supposed to in turn insert a row in the db via an objectdatasource outside of the wizard, the insert is executed as many time as there are wizardsteps. For example, if there are 5 wizardsteps, then when looking at the data in the database there are 5 rows for what would be each insert from each wizardstep - and if there were 4 then 4 rows would be insterted for each step and so on...Is this something to do with adding the even dynamically and using the objectdatasource to insert??? I can't put my finger on the repetition....Basically....I create a wizard control dynamically which is much a like a quiz (each wizard step would be a question) - the number of wizard steps is contingent on a value retrieved from the database.
The user enters data on each step which is inserted via the Objectdatasource when the NextButtonClick event is fired.
Duplicate rows are inserted in the database for the value of the wizardstep just completed.
The number of identical rows are equal to the number of the wizard steps created for the control.
This happens for each wizard setp in the control except for the finalbuttonclick event.
All the controls in the step have a unique ID.If anyone has either a solution, or a way to possibly spot check this to determine if it is a bug or not,

I was hired to do some contract work for a short contract. I am looking at this code on this Aspx web form. What they do is load the labels for a radio button list from an ObjectDataSource object. Well this is the first time I have ever heard of an ObjectDataSource. The problem is that I don't even know where this object is pulling data from. With a SqlDataSource object, I can easily view the flyout menu to see the sql query where the data is being pulled from. Anyway, I need some figuring out where objectDataSourcePlanType lives and where it is pulling data from. I know I can't list the entire project, but I am sure someone who is familiar with ObjectDataSource
<tr>
<td>Type of Plan</td>
<td><img alt="Required" src="/Images/arrow.png" /></td>
<td>
<asp:RadioButtonList ID="radioButtonListPlanType" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" DataSourceID="objectDataSourcePlanType"
DataTextField="PlanTypeName" DataValueField="PlanTypeId" OnSelectedIndexChanged="RadioButtonListPlanType_SelectedIndexChanged"
RepeatColumns="1" RepeatDirection="Vertical" AppendDataBoundItems="true">
</asp:RadioButtonList>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="requiredFieldValidator10" runat="server" ControlToValidate="radioButtonListPlanType" ErrorMessage="Type
of Plan is required."
SetFocusOnError="true" />
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="objectDataSourcePlanType" runat="server" SelectMethod="ListPlanTypes" TypeName="Candle.Web.PlanRequest.CommonWeb">
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
</td>

I will try to keep the question short:
1. I am new to ASP and I can not get this to work:
2. I am Using a <asp:DropDownList in a <InsertItemTemplate> in a <asp:ListView
3. The dropdownlist during insert does not get polulated (it is empty) while the same construction and same datasource works in the edittemplate: <asp:DropDownList in a <EditTemplate> in a <asp:ListView
4. I noticed that filling the dropdownlist with a <asp:ListItem works; the insert list is populated. (not usable for me) In both cases I use the same datasource from the code behind like this : Edit:
<asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownStartday" runat="server" SelectedValue='<%# Bind("startday") %>'
DataSource="<%# GetDataSourceStartDay() %>" DataValueField="daynum" DataTextField="dayname"
Insert: (with or without Selectedvalue: NoJoy)
<asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownStartday" runat="server"
DataSource="<%# GetDataSourceStartDay() %>" DataValueField="daynum" DataTextField="dayname"

I have an ASP.NET Web Forms app using Entity Framework in the data layer. I've recently changed the app over to use one Object Context per request as per this post. It works great for the entire application except for any page which uses a ReportViewer to display something.
I've noticed that it fails when trying to get an instance of the [Code].... from the [Code].... collection because [Code]....
is null.
Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll and Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common.dll can also be seen in the call stack each time it fails. The reports each use one or more ObjectDataSources to retreive data.
Based on this I'm assuming that the ReportViewer is somehow to blame, but i have no idea why. I would need some way to dispose the ObjectContext after it had been used by the report at the very least.

I have a grid that receives products over a GetList methods via ObjectDataSource. The Product class contains also a Object Supplier. If I change in the drop down list of the grid the supplier for a product and I click update the ID of the suppliier is still the same. I have debugged the call of the update method and checked the parameter in the product object. I wrote the following code in the SelectedIndexChanged event and the text box shows the right id but not the update method.
DropDownList supplier = (DropDownList) sender;
txtTest.Text = supplier.SelectedValue;
Here is the code of my grid view:
[Code]....
My Object Data Source calls the following Update Method:
[Code]....
The next work around idea would be to call the update method manually in the Update Event of the grid view.

I've been working a gridview that uses an ObjectDataSource to perform either select, insert, delete or update. I was able to get everything to work correctly with the GridView except when it came to performing an update. My first issue that I came across was that it was tacking on two extra columns or fields that I didn't really expect. The function being called (SavePipelineUser) only expected 4 parameters and was getting 6 in total. This was occuring even though I had placed OldValuesParameterFormatString="original_{0}" or OldValuesParameterFormatString="{0}" within the GridView's attributes.
Ok, So I was able to resolve this issue by going into the OnUpdating event in the ObjectDataSource and doing the following below. This effectively removes the additional parameters from being added. However, I now have a new problem. There doesn't appear to be any values actually being passed into this method. So, while no errors appear, nothing gets updated. Can anyone explain to me why my values are not being carried forward? I've spent about a day and a half working on this issue and was able to get around this by just going with the GridView's RowUpdating event and grabbing values from grid to manually get it to update. While I'm very happy for anything to be working after so much time, I still feel like this is a bad hack for this to work. I have a hard time fathoming why this seemingly simple use of the GridView on my part has turned out to be very complicated. I'm extremely leary now of using the ObjectDataSource object for anything if it's going to be this much of an effort.

I'm using a GridView with an ObejctDataSource. The data is provided by a business object and not a DB. It returns a list of people and each person belongs to a group. Now I need to filter data. For example, I need to return list of people in specific groups. How can I specify a list of groups to be able to filter the data ? Could I use SQL like syntax ? I understand the filter expression works only when data is returned as a datatable. But in my business object I maintain data as hashtables and return as List<PeopleInfo>. Do I need to return list as datatable instead ?
