I set the DataKeyName of the Parent gridview to EmpNo and LeaveTraId, I wanted to pull those datakeys up to include in my query getting the value Remarks field from database.
I used OnRowDataBound event of parent grid to populate the second grid.

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to create a nested gridview, but I'm stuck at the editing/deleting part of the nested gridview. (Below is my code). The nested gridviews are filling out nice, I've set the DeleteParameter in the SQLDataSource, but I'm still getting this error when trying to delete a criteria: 'The Gridview 'gvCriteria' fired event RowDeleting which wasn't handled.'I've tried to create a method 'gvCriteria_RowDeleting', but that didn't seem to work out.Someone who can give me a piece of advice? Would it be possible to fill the gridview without using gvDomain_rowDataBound? Dries

Is there a better, cleaner way to do this in ASP.NET 2.0?
An ASP.NET 2.0 page displays a datalist of records. Each record can have many dates, so the dates are in a nested gridview (I chose a gridview over a datalist here because we want to be able to delete a date and this is easier done in a gridview). The parent record can never be deleted.
The display works fine: the nested gridview gets its datasource during the parent datalist's OnItemDataBound event.
The problem: the nested gridview's delete function. The date gets deleted without a problem (handled in the OnRowDeleting event), but somehow the redisplay is untying all the other nested gridviews from their datasources. The delete does not appear to cause a page postback, so I don't know how the other nested gridviews are losing their datasources.
have created a simple web page with three text fields and one data gridview, a VB procedure will use these texts values and send call aOracle database proc. and fill a DataTable; and then I assign that datatable as DataSource for the GridView, But the GridView is not appearing at run time on the web page at all!!! I have chedcked the datatable and it contains data. This is the code:
Dim dtMotorEndt As New DataTable
Dim p_pol_no As Integer = txtPolNo.Text
Dim p_pol_year As Integer = txtPolYear.Text

In Nested Grid, we get a '+' sign. The problem is that '+' sign appears all times, even if there are no child records for that row. 1. Can we enable/disable OR Hide/Unhide '+' sign. depending on if child rows exits.2. OR alteast we can put some bgcolor indicating to user that this record do have child rows. Without any indicator user may feel quite annoying to click on '+' sign and nothing happens.
View 1 RepliesUsing vb.net/asp.net 2005 and sql server mgmt studio 2005.
I am querying sql server db and returning unique records, no duplicates when I return the records in sql server mgmt studio.
However when I bind the dataTable that I return it is showing multiple duplicates, meaning I see each record appear 8 times in the gridview, has anyone seen this or know what I'm doing wrong?

I have a customized gridvew i.e. grvResult. There is a textbox and a InsertButton in the footer.
If there is a data populated into gridview it is showing GridView footer and inserting data but if there is no data in gridview then its footer also not visible.
I have tried in two ways to make footer visible but it is showing following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I did the necessary steps, show a footer, put in a button and text box, set their id's up.
Here is my code behind (VB). It's saying that Event 'Inserting' cannot be found. I'm stumped. (The gridview is set up to insert/delete/edit)

View 4 Repliesdesigned a gridview like below
<asp:GridView ID="gv" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"
CellPadding="3" AllowPaging="True" ShowFooter="true" onpageindexchanging="gv_PageIndexChanging"
DataKeyNames = "fp_id" Width="987px" onrowdatabound="gv_RowDataBound" BorderColor="White" >

but in the output for footer its created one more column at the end but i dont want to create a new column for this footer because all other detail cells are empty. i want to show the Footer without affect any other columns.if i include the footer code in the mid of the bound field then also its created a new column so the details cells are empty,
After displaying a summary data in Gridview Column Footer in ASP.Net...is there a way that i can then use that summary(total information) in other parts of the application? For instance, like adding the total from the GridView footer to a different data that appears in a textbox somewhere else within the app?
So if i have a GridView like this
entry1 10
entry2 20
Total 30 <----this is the info in the footer
then add this footer total to a total from another control? How can i get this done? How do i go about using that total from the gridview in my app?
I've been trying to get the total of some columns in my GridView. I used the code in the MSDN and finally did this:

GVcm is the name of my gridview.I have a button that loads the gridview, but it does not show the total. I don't know if I have to call this method inside the ButtonClick Event, I'm still a noob with c# and asp.net.Other things that maybe you should know, I'm not using template fields, I don't know if that is the problem I'm using normal bounfields.
If I want to add the value of a GridView footer to say, the values in 3 textbox, and then put the summed up value in a 4th textbox called txtSum...how do i go about getting this done? Are there any examples out there that I can take a look at?
So to further elaborate on the task I need to complete...the textboxes do not reside within the GridView. I want to take the total within the footer of the GridView and add it to values that are within textboxes which are located in other locations of the page, then displaying the result in another textBox that is also located somewhere else on the page. Meaning, there are 5 different controls located at several locations on the page which are involved.
(value in footer + TextBox1 + TextBox2 + TextBox3 = TextBox4)
How can i add a textBox to the footer of a gridview? I just want to add one testBox which would display the total of one of the gridview columns. Are there any examples out there that I can take a look at? My google search did not return any.
Here is what my Gridview looks like right now...
[Code]....
Basically i want my grid view to look like this:
First Entry 20
Second Entry 50
Fifth Entry 30
Total (Footer) 100 <== this in a textbox.
So only one Textbox is required in the whole GridView..
I have designed a collapsible nested gridview project using this article as a reference Collapsible Nested GridView with Paging using ASP.Net. I am trying to modify the code to collapse a gridview when another gridview is expanded so that only one nested gridview will be open at a time.
