Dec 10, 2010I have a set of dataset with different column retrieved from DB. I need to present the datasets in one GridView (or other ListView etc...) without specifying the column_header. It should present automaticly since the GridView is bind to the DataSet.
In additional, I want this GridView to handle multiple rows edit and update the dataset, idealy, show data in textboxs in initially.How could I set the GridView to edit_model without hardcode column_header and textboxs in 'itemtemplate' or filed.
How could I achieve the bulk edit and update, so that I can assign 'mydataview1.table' to the dataset.

When the page is shown, the textbox are filled correctly, this textbox are filled with the "primernombre" and "segundonombre" properties from the persona class. After this, If I change the textbox, and after click the update button, I need to update the persona class with the changes from the textboxes, then I call a ActualizarPersona method for updating the database. Jun 29, 2010I have a bound field in a DetailsView that I want updated with the contents of TextBox2.Text when I update. I have TextBox2 set AutoPostBack True. Cannot remember how to move the contents on update. I tried converting the "Description_Update" to a template field without success.
I can copy and paste the contents of TextBox2 into the DetailsView and it does update as do the other DataFields.

Forms Data Controls :: DetailsView BoundFields Auto Binding Not Updating Business Object On Update
Feb 18, 2010I have a DetailsView (DV) control, an ObjectDataSource (ODS) control, and a button on a page. I have 2 classes in the App_Code directory (Customer and CustomerDAO). The DAO class provides static methods for the ODS control and simply hack values in (ie...no real database selects/updates). The Customer class has 2 properties (Id and Name) and a default constructor. The page takes an ID on the querystring and determines if the DV control is in insert or edit mode. If in edit mode, it sets the SelectParameter on the ODS (id field), calls ODS.Select(), and then calls DV.DataBind(). The existing (although fake) customer is loaded and display properly when this happens. I then change the name of the Customer in the DV and click the Button to save the new data.
Everything seems to be wired up correctly as the UpdateMethod that is specified in the ODS control is called and succeeds (even in my real example with my database). The problem is that the BoundFields in the DV control have not been updated with the new values and therefore the existing values are updated in the database and my changes are lost. I have handled the OnUpdating event of the ODS and the values are still the old values. I have also handled the OnItemUpdating event of the DV control and the NewValues IOrderedDictionary still has the old values in it also. In looking at the MSDN article for the UpdateMethod, it states the following:

Parameters are added to the UpdateParameters collection from three sources:
From the data-bound control, at run time.
From the UpdateParameters element, declaratively.
From the Updating event handler, programmatically.
I am using the BoundField classes in my DV control so I would have assumed that the first bullet above would have handled the updating of values, but it doesn't appear to work with the way I am doing it. If I set the values explicitly in the OnUpdating event that is fired by the ODS control (the 3rd bullet) the right values are updated (again...even in my real database situation). It seems like my only issue is that the automatic binding that I expect from the DV control isn't working as I would expect it to. Here is the code that I have in my fake example:

Nov 1, 2010I have a dataset which I bind to a gridview for display. Normally, the gridview shows the dataset table column name as the column header and the data is bound vertically - i.e. the dataset table rows are created in a vertical/downward fashion. What I would i like do however in my application is to get the GridView to bind in the horizontal direction. So the data that is bound "moves" towards the right. Before suggesting a repearter or datalist, I also have a requirement to not wrap. I have not been successfull getting the repeater/datalist not to wrap unless you know of a setting you can share.

One colunm determines the priority of the message (high, low or no priority assigned) if the message row is empty put nothing in the row else put a ! in the row (to show high priority). Question is don't I need to bind that colunm and row?

Jul 23, 2010I have a GridView bound to a DataTable. The DataTable has a Deleted column that holds a boolean value describing whether the row is logically deleted; I need the row to physically remain in the table. Is there a way to skip over rows whose Deleted columns are set to true in the GridView's onRowDataBound event? The closest I could get is marking the row's visibility property to false, but this does not help me because it throws off paging and the GridView's alternating row color.
