How can i use a single connection in one web application. Right now i have to create a different connection for every data interchange with SQL. For example: For inserting a data i am creating a connection on button click event. And for fetching a record, i have to create a different connection for data grid view. create a single connection and can use the same connection under complete application.

I have a stored procedure that returns 3 tables within the single recordset it returns. If I set a SqlDataSource to get data from this procedure, it works, but it only returns the first table. I want to have a GridView display the data from the 2nd or 3rd table using a SqlDataSource, but I can't figure out how to specify a particular table.
While there are some posts discussing this out there, I can't get a definitive answer about whether or not this is even possible (?). In a worst-case scenario, I can create another SP that only returns the 3rd table - but that creates a little maintenance headache that I would prefer to avoid.

I am using VS2008 and oracle 10g ODP.Net. The oracle database that I used in the connection is working and tested it using sql plus.The connection string when used in a GriDView works perfectly. Now when I created a new listview control with the same connection it gives an error.Database schema could not be retrieved for this connection. Please make sure connection settings are correct and the database is online

I'm using Visual Studio 2008, and my database is SQL Server 2000.
I want to add a connection to the Server Explorer in VS. The Data source is Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). After entering in all my information and I click Test Connection, it is successful.
But when I click OK, I get the error:
Unable to add data connection. ExecuteScalar requires an open and available connection. The connection's current state is closed.

I have a page where a user can insert some order about some product. In that page there are also live statistics which is being refreshed every 20 seconds to reflect the current price of a product using asp.net timer. This live panel fetching these prices from a database.
When sometimes an order is being inserted, I get an exception saying that the connection is closed and the insert command cannot continue. I suspect that when the insert command is given, if at that exact moment the live update is being refreshed, then they both need to access the database, and they are using the same SqlConnection Object. So when one finishes, the connection object being closed even if the other one is using the same connection object.
Before closing a connection, how can I be sure that no other methods are using that connection?

I have a templated control embedding a checkbox in a GridView I have an event on the checkbox which has a loop that pulls ALL of the checked checkboxes and the associated value. I only want to pull the datavalue of the checkbox that I just checked but the properties/methods associated with that checkbox event are not giving me any sort of index or item.value from which to do this.

I am using ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005. I am new in web parts.I used simple calender control in web part zone it is showing an error.web part manager is also in web page.

SQLExpress database file auto-creation error:
The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:
If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist.
If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database.
Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine. The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.

For context: First of all, I am new to LINQ, as I have been using SubSonic for quite some time now.
I have two tables, Users, and Affiliates. They both have a very typical schema. The FK that joins them is the UserId field, which is in the Affiliates table. I want to create a LINQ query that pulls the Username from the Users table using the AffiliateId value. The AffiliateId is a primary key of the Affiliates table.
I have tried to accomplish this using many variations of the following code:

In the above query, I expect to get a single row result set. However, I instead receive the entire table of results.
How can I make this work? I have yet to see an example or article out there to do what I am trying to do.

I have a gridview which shows the contents of the shopping cart. The qty cell is a template control bound to the qty field in the datasource. My ideal scenario is to have the user highlit the qty, write the new one and press 'enter' to update the sqldatasource but this may not be possible.
My second chose is an Update button to update the data but this erases the data from the other fields not listed as key.
I have tried the edit and update functions but then all fields are editable and I dont't want that, just the qty cell. If I change the read only atrribute to true on the ones that I don't want edited, then it erases the information from those fields.

I have a parts table (ID, PartName, Category). I have an Engine table that has 10 columns to specify the 10 main parts that comprise the engine (EngineID, PartA_ID, PartB_ID, PartC_ID...).
I want to make only one trip to the DB to pull all the rows, then filter by category for each PartA, PartB, etc ddl. how to do this?

I have 8 drop downlists created in .aspx page.
I try to programmatically fill the 8 using a single datatable. Each dropdownlist has its own column in the datatable and is supposed to display only the column that corresponds to it. It does display the column it is supposed to however it also displays a number of empty slots equal to all the other columns combined.Here is the code can someone tell me why I get the empty slots?
