SQL Server :: Connection String To Connect With 2008?

Sep 23, 2010

be it's a wrong place to ask the following question. Sorry for that. Our hosting provider has recently upgraded their database server from Sql Server 2005 to 2008 and I'm getting errors to connect with remote server from my development machine. Error Message "Invalid connection". Tried to find solution on net but couldn't find it.I'm using .Net 1.1. Though we've updated versions 2.0,3.5 & 4.0 but due to some certain circumstances I've no way to update it. It's a web based project. The following connection string works fine for Sql Server 2000 & 2005 but not for 2008.<add key="ConnectionString" value="Data Source=Remote Server's domain name;Initial Catalog=database name;User ID=user name;Password=surround;Persist Security Info=True;Pooling=false;Connect Timeout=45;" />Here Remote Server's domain name indicates to remote db server like: test.mysite4now.comdatabase name for example: test_surrounduser name like test_surroundpassword: surround.Can anyone inform me what's wrong with the above connection string to connect to Sql Server 2008.

VS2010 - Connect To SQL Using Trusted Connection In Connection String

Aug 10, 2011

I have an ASP.Net website running on IIS7. The Application Pool is set to ASPv4 Classic.

Authentication Mode is set to ASP.Net Authentication & Windows Authentication

My question is, when I want to connect to SQL using a "trusted connection" in the Connection String, what user will actually be passed into SQL?

I thought it would pass my logon details, but it is coming back with an NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON error, which seems to point towards it not passing in my logon.

DataSource Controls :: Connecting To SQL Server In Visual Studio 2008 Using Code - Error: 25 - Connection String Is Not Valid

Feb 2, 2010

Background: I use SQL server 2005 developer edition and visual studio 2008. Visual studio 2008 is running on a local machine with Vista business edition. SQL server is running on a remote server using Windows server 2003. Both computers are within the same domain.

Problem: First, I used the server explorer to connect to the SQL server. Everything works as desired. Then I write code to do the same thing. I keep getting the following error message:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)

However, I used the exactly identical connection string as the one used in the server explorer. So connection string should not be the problem. In addition, I tried the test code in MSDN, which tells whether my domainusername can flow the network. It turns out the user name is fine. I also went to the SQL server management studio and found the login for my computer is NVCWeihao while my computer login name is NVCweihao. I am wondering if this uppercase letter really affects the connection.

Databases :: Oracle - Connection String Without Username And Password?

May 10, 2010

I am connecting to Oracle database from .net using OLEDB.

My Connection string :

[Code]....

I am using above ConnectionString to communicate with database. To make it work, I have to store password (don't want to do that) in session and use it every time I need to talk to db.

1) Is there any other connection string without username and password with oledb?

2) I use "Integrated Security" for MSSQL. How can I use the same with OLEDB - Oracle database?

string sConnectionString = "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;"

DataSource Controls :: ODBC SQL Connection To Connect A SQL 2005 Database To .NET App In Visual Web Developer Express?

Jun 15, 2010

I'm using an ODBC connection to connect a SQL 2005 database to my ASP.NET app in Visual Web Developer Express. I'm finding that the expected functionality that tutorials review does not work for ODBC connected databases the same way as it does for SQL databases created in the Web Developer. For example, I can't use stored procedures because the option to create one is disabled in the Web Developer, and if I create the stored procedure in SQL Server Management Studio Express, it doesn't show up in Web Developer because Web Developer only finds the system stored procedures, not the user-defined ones. I've seen other cases as well where database management options in Web Developer don't work with ODBC databases.

Am I missing something in my setup, or is there an inherent limitation with ODBC connected databases? Or, is this a limitation with using the Express versions of these development tools?

DataSource Controls :: Variable Connection String Parameter In A DataSource Control

May 20, 2010

I have several web forms which use a GridView linked to a DataSource control which is defined at design time as follows:

<cc1:pgsqldatasource
id="dsStates"
runat="server"
connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection %>"
oldvaluesparameterformatstring="Original_{0}"
providername="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection.ProviderName %>" >
</cc1:pgsqldatasource>

As you can see, the connectionstring parameter is defined to a specific connection string name and I need to be able to set such a parameter to a different value, for example, to a session variable content.

Using VS 2008 and oracle 10g.

I have installed oracle odp.net (11.1.0.7.20). This client installation includes all VS developer tools.

All my application seems to be working ok. I have never attempted to use VS Server Explorer.

For ReportViewer I was trying to create a dataset and in the server explorer I was trying to create a new dataconnection for oracle. As soon as I click new connection I get the following error.

An unexpected error occured in Oracle Data Net provider for .NET. contact the provider vendor to resolve this problem.

Also I am unable to add a server to the server explorer. When I enter the IP address of

oracle DB Server, it gives the following error.

DataSource Controls :: Better Way To Retrieve Connection String?

Apr 7, 2010

I have an app that connects to only one db for all of the data that the app has access to. My connection string is in the Web.Config file. In each of my DAL classes I have the following code that gets the connection string from the Config file. This works with no issues but I thought there might be a better way of doing this that I don't know.

If I wanted to change the name of the connection string that any of the DAL classes would use then I would have to change the name of the connection string in each of the files. I thought about creating a new class that would hold this then I could just instantiate a new instance of the class to access this with each of the DAL classes that needs access to it. Then if I needed to change the name of the connection string then it would only be in one place. I suspect there is an even better way of doing this that i don't know about.

DataSource Controls :: How To Work With Oracle And SQL Server Using EF4?

May 18, 2010

We are working in a new N-Layered application with EF4 as ORM. As a requirement, we need to give support for both SQL Server and Oracle existing databases.

Our wish was to build a single EDMX model and then generate our business entities from a TT file.

The main problem was that database providers may generate different .NET types from our database field types. In this case, we'll have different EDMX models and then different auto-generated entities, which is more or less the same as have two different applications.

I don't know if we could have different SSDL files with specific database information (one for Oracle and another one for SQL Server) in separete files and share CDSL and MSL information for both databases.

Would be this solution possible?

Someone knows some other way to work with Oracle and SQL Server using EF4?
