How The Default Website In VWD 2010 Works

Jul 6, 2010

Ok, this might sound as a silly question, but I am a newbie without experience, and I am curious how stuff works, I am not for the "just works".

The default website generated by VWD2010 is documented somewhere? I searched in MSDN but no luck.

If i understand how it works, it would be better, to understand how login is implemented, the master page, and so on.

VS 2010 / Hyperlink To File Only Works In IE?

Sep 22, 2011

I'm binding data from a SQL table to a GridView. The data looks like this:

During the initial bind, all I'm pulling is the raw data and adding it. As each row is bound, I convert the latter two columns into the hyperlinks like so:

VB.NET Code:

'Get the second link text            Dim lnktextBOM As String = e.Row.Cells(2).Text             'Create link            Dim lnkBOM As New HyperLink            lnkBOM.NavigateUrl = getSqlData.getBomURL("notebooks", e.Row.Cells(0).Text, e.Row.Cells(1).Text)            lnkBOM.Text = lnktextBOM            'Add the link to the cell            e.Row.Cells(2).Controls.Add(lnkBOM)

Which all works great. However, if I'm using Chrome and I click on the URL, nothing happens. On FireFox, a 404 is thrown. But on IE, it works perfectly.

what I'm doing wrong here? Below is an example of the URL:

CTSFS01SharedOPERATIONDWURBOMAdamo__PROJECT A.xls

Configuration :: VS 2010 Works On Server / Download 4.0?

Nov 11, 2010

I have a website created with vs 2008 using 3.5 framework. When i do any changing int he code I used to do build website, add webdeployment, then build soultion.I go to deployment folder / release/bin/ .dll and use this file to update the previous dll file i have on the server. Now i am migrating to .net 4.0 on vs 2010. I opened my project in vs 2010 and by itself it migrated it.Then i created webdeployment. I noticed in the deployment folder i have an "obj" folder that also contains the dll file other than the one in "Release" folder.

Now what do i have to do?Can i do the same?take the dll that is under release/bin or or the one under objReleaseTempBuildDirin ? And on the server do i have to install vs 2010 so it works?or downloading .net 4.0 framework is enough?

State Management :: SessionState Works In VWD 2010 Debug, IIS 5.1 But Not On WS2008 (IIS7.5)

Sep 8, 2010

I'm building a site using the .NET 4 framework using routing and MasterPages.

Because I'm using both routing and MasterPages, I can't see any way how to get value from control on the previous page. To solve this I've used the code behind to store the control's value in a session variable. Is there a way to retrieve a value from a control using PreviousPage or something when using Routing and MasterPages?

This works fine in VWD debug mode and in IIS 5.1, but when I try to deploy it on my Windows Server 2008 (IIS7.5) machine, it get this error:

Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration><system.web><httpModules> section in the application configuration.

Here is a copy of my web.config file:

How To Fix Website That Works In IE6, To Work In IE8

Jan 15, 2010

ix a ASP.NET website that works in IE6, to work in IE8 browser. I added the EmulateIE7 http header to IIS6 as short term fix, but still the pages are not displayed correctly. the web app was initially designed and developed for IE6, now we are upgrading to IE8, so is there any quick fix available for IE6 website to display correctly in IE8? I thought the EmulateIE7 works for both IE7 and previous versions as well, is that not correct?

C# - Visual Studio 2008 Compilation Works; Same Project Compiled In 2010 Doesn't?

Feb 1, 2011

Have a project that was created in Visual Studio 2008 and deployed to a 64-bit Windows 2003 server. This application references a 32-bit Interop.ActiveDs.dll. The applications were originally compiled for 'Any CPU', however, explicitly compiling as 'x86' doesn't solve the problem. The project targets the 3.5 framework.

The server is running IIS 6.0 in 64-bit mode. When we deploy the version compiled in Visual Studio 2008, the app runs perfectly fine; all pages show up. In retrospect, this is actually surprising. We migrated the application to Visual Studio 2010 (we did not change the targeted framework) and redeployed. Now we get a BadImageFormatException loading Interop.ActiveDs.dll. Which actually makes more sense than the 2008 version running. To solve the problem, we set Enable32bitAppOnWin64 to true and ran aspnet_regiis.exe -i from the 32-bit folder of the 2.0 framework (as per various instructions on the web). In IIS, web service extensions, there were two versions of ASP.NET 2.0, one for 32-bit and one for 64-bit. We prohibited the 64-bit version, restarted IIS, and launched the website.

What we expected: The app to run as 32-bit, load the interop, and display
What we got: "Service Unavailable"All other web pages that were previously working displayed the same message, as did the Visual Studio 2008 version. The support page here describes the problem exactly, but tells us to do exactly what we did to resolve the problem (enable 32-bit mode). We've rolled back to 64-bit mode in IIS and deployed the Visual Studio 2008 version for now, but we really need to figure out how to make this app run and load the interop (there are also 32-bit Oracle DLLs that are referenced)Two questions:Why does the Visual Studio 2008 version work at all??
How do we get the Visual Studio 2010

Configuration :: Converted Website To 4.0 - Nothing Works

May 26, 2010

I am running on Windows Server 2003. The former site was a .Net 2.0 website built using VWD 2005 as I recall. I downloaded VWD2010 and upgraded the project (from the fileset on the server). Initially I got an error stating: 'Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'.

I went into IIS, clicked properties for my application, and set the ASP.NET version to: 4.0.30319. When I restarted IIS, the project could not find any of the 'pages' (i.e., Page Not Found) for all pages. I ran: aspnet_regiis -i Essentially, the web server acts like the application doesn't even exist with the 'Page Not Found' error. I'm sure this has to be a simple issue - but I can't figure it out so far

Configuration :: WebSite Works But Web Application Does Not?

Aug 9, 2010

I created a web application (VS 2008 + SP1) and deployed it on my shared hosting with ASP.NET 2.0 support. I started getting errors

could not load type <page class name>

I tried resolving it but it did not work. The hosting provider told me that they have full support of .NET 2.0 framework. I tried a few inline code samples and they worked fine. Then I again deployed a small compiled website project and it also worked fine.

I dont understand. why is that when i deploy a web application project it fails and if i convert the same thing into website project it works.

Website Works Correctly On Localhost But Fails Sometimes Online

Mar 3, 2011

I have the following problem, I make a web site when I run this website (locally) I get the correct data (for example I have a set of cities according to the city selection, I get the required data), but when I publish the web site and try it on line (I get incorrect data under the same conditions I tried before locally). I don't know what is the problem, I need to trace the code online (debug the code on line) to know where the problem. Is there any suggestions how to treat case like this, code works in correct manner locally but fails sometimes online? I use (https) online. I use static variable (supposed not to be changed) but online the value of this variable is changing and make this problem.

VS 2010 - Modifying Default Template

Dec 14, 2012

I'm playing around and created a new Web Form project and trying to make way with the default template. I've created the pages I need but trying to leverage the existing membership pages and ASPNETDB. I'm having trouble grasping how the asp pages are connecting to the database(and thus make my own changes). I cannot see any SQL syntax in the aspx pages or the code behind? I can tell the project is making use of the stored procedures but where is the actual connection configured or the command that is being run, for example when the "create" button is pressed on the CreateUserWizard control. Looking at the createUserWizrd I cannot see any adapters it might be using?

Perhaps my mindset is trying to apply, tableadapter and datasets way of working to asp controls. All the information and tutorials I'm looking at, seem to bypass the connection to the database and somehow there controls are 'taking care' of the I/O to the database. So if I wanted to add an additional field to the createwizard process, what do I need to do? Alter the db and the stored procedure, then?

Code:

</style>

Where is this stuff generated? And how can I remove this.

VS 2010 - Browser Not Routing To Default Error Page

MVC :: One Page Is A Silverlight App -> Only Works On Default Page?

Feb 21, 2010

I am trying to create a website containing an application written in Silverlight. Because of SEO, I want to have this Silverlight application on one page of the site, whereas the other pages are ASP.NET MVC, explaining about the application, general info, etc.

I was able to find an example on how to add a silverlight application to an ASP.NET MVC view. Basically, I just have to add:[Code]....

to the <asp:Content> block.

However, this only seems to work if this snippet is added to the default page (/Home/Index in case of an out-of-the box ASP.NET MVC application). If I add the same snippet to, for example, the About.aspx page, nothing shows up. If I make the About page the default page by changing the route to:
[Code]....

then the Silverlight application is launched on the About page (now the default page), but no longer on the Home page.So my question is, how can I get my Silverlight application to launch on any page in my ASP.NET MVC aplication, not just the default page?

When I click on asp.net configuration, it opens as expected. When I click on the Security Tab, I get the message, Unable to connect to SQL Server database. It will not create the default aspnetdb.mdf file.I can create a connection to the sql server in VS from the database explorer.I can connect to the sql server with sqlcmd as a trusted connection.I have even managed to verify the default instance of .SQLEXPRESS with named pipesusing the sc command and the MSSQL$instance name.I have verified that my machine dot config file for the 2.0 .net contains the proper info (without altering it).I've spent many nights trying to figure this one out.VS2008 and MS SQL Server EXPRESS 2008 worked.I noticed that the default asp.net web site uses a connection other than the default localsqlserverand the template automatically adds a login in the ui with role, membership & profile in the web config.

Configuration :: Modify Visual Studio 2010 Default Database From SQL Express?

Sep 26, 2010

Im having an issue when I create a new ASP.NET Web Application within Visual Studio 2010, this creates a web.config configured to use SQLEXPRESS. The default web.config that VisualStudio generates for New Web Application Projects still points to the SQLServerExpress Database which I had previously removed! The only instance that I have now is SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer. The web.config that is created along with other files for the for New Web Application Projects template:

[Code]....

The question is how can I change this web.config thats created with the ASP.NET Web Project template automatically from Visual Studio 2010? I can go in and modify the web.config by hand obviously. It doesnt make sense to have the web.config automatically created this way whereby the connectionstrings point to SQLServer Express that does not exist. I did in stall Visual Studio 2010 which included SQLServerExpress, but that I later removed. Now is VisualStudio always going to create web.config's pointing to SQLServer Express?
