Web Forms :: CSS On Default Page Works Only When Login?
Mar 24, 2011
I am creating an application in which I am doing forms authentication. I need to show a default page with a login link, normal user can see the form and admin can login and make necessary changes.
But when I configure forms authentication the images and CSS on default page works only when someone logins, otherwise they dint work. I am using Master page also.
Master page, css folder and images folder exist on Root.

I am trying to create a website containing an application written in Silverlight. Because of SEO, I want to have this Silverlight application on one page of the site, whereas the other pages are ASP.NET MVC, explaining about the application, general info, etc.
I was able to find an example on how to add a silverlight application to an ASP.NET MVC view. Basically, I just have to add:[Code]....
to the <asp:Content> block.
However, this only seems to work if this snippet is added to the default page (/Home/Index in case of an out-of-the box ASP.NET MVC application). If I add the same snippet to, for example, the About.aspx page, nothing shows up. If I make the About page the default page by changing the route to:
[Code]....
then the Silverlight application is launched on the About page (now the default page), but no longer on the Home page.So my question is, how can I get my Silverlight application to launch on any page in my ASP.NET MVC aplication, not just the default page?

Ok, this might sound as a silly question, but I am a newbie without experience, and I am curious how stuff works, I am not for the "just works".
The default website generated by VWD2010 is documented somewhere? I searched in MSDN but no luck.
If i understand how it works, it would be better, to understand how login is implemented, the master page, and so on.

I've created a new website using forms authentication. Everything works fine on my local DEV machine - I can log in with no problem in any browser.
But as soon as I deploy this to my production server, I am unable to login using IE. I get to the login page and when I click to login, it just reloads that page and never authenticates me. If I use Google Chrome, I can log in without any problems.
I know this sounds similar to the common problem where you don't have your applicationName specified in the web.config file, but I have that specified in all of my providers.
I've tried this in both IE8 and IE9 while adjusting the cookie settings to accept everything and it makes no difference. I've also tried on multiple computers.
Since I can get it to work in Chrome, I feel like there must be a setting in the code somewhere that affects IE differently. I have a hard time believing it's a setting in IE because I use the standard, default setup there.
The only way I could get this close to working was to adjust this forms authentication setting: cookieless = "UseUri". When I did this, I could get past the login screen to my default page, but then when I tried to navigate to any other pages, it would always take me back to the login page and make me login again. It would take me to the requested page each time, but I would still have to login again at every new page request.
Here are a couple of snippets from my web.config file.
<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="Login.aspx"
path="/"
protection="All"
[Code]....

Here is my problem: I have created a login form on my local machine. I have tested it on the local machine and it works fine. But when I push it to production it doesn't work.
I set-up the web config file so that the system uses the production database even from my local machine. I used the Web > AspNet Configuration tool in Visual Web developer to add a user to the production database. I used Sql studio management studio to confirm that the user was in the production database and not just on a local database. I have removed all references to the local database. I even deleted the entire app_data folder on my machine so that there was no chance that I am using a local database.
To create the login, I dragged a login component onto my Login.aspx page from the toolbar in visual web developer.
Why can I log in just fine on my local machine, but when push everything to production and I try to log in as that user I get the error message "Your login attempt was not successful"

This code worked until I published a recent set of changes to the web site. It's very strange behavior that I am having trouble debugging. Basically, I implemented some custom code to allow custom configuration of login timeouts from an app settings variable.
When debugging the application, if I click remember me or not, Login works perfectly. Once I post the updated code to the live server, login only works if I have the Remember Me option unchecked. If I check remember me, it does not log in, and it cycles the user back to the default web page. If I access the site from IE on the live server, remember me works correctly.
Here is the Logged_In event handler code:

I have an ASP.net application hosted on Win2003 server. When I set the Authenticated Access to just Integrated Windows Authentication, IE7 & IE8 started failing in loging into the site with an error 401.1 ("You are not authorized to view this page"). But Firefox has no issues in loging into the site. why IE is failing to login with Integrated Windows Authentication where FireFox works perfectly?

I'm using ASP.NET 3.5I have created a Master Page. The master page is simple. It has a table at the top which has the colors and rows and columns and text that I need on each web page that gets displayed. Beneath the table I have a ContentPlaceHolder. The master page works as it's supposed too for each web page that gets displayed.My question is that I have this header at the top and then the ContentPlaceHolder, but how do I add a Footer to the Master Page? The footer naturally needs to be at the bootom of the Master Page!How do you add a footer and make it remain after the ContentPlaceHolder at the bootom of the Master Page?

I have my website in which there are free links and links that require login. Free links open even if the user is not logged in. But in case of links that require login, redirect to login.aspx specified in Web.Config in loginURL tag.
I want some way to override this and show Ajax modal popup (Ajax extender toolkit) with login control for only thos links that require login (not for the free links).

I need to create an application with Forms Authentication and/or Windows Authentication. If the application is set to use mixed authentication (Forms + Windows Auth) and the user don't have a Windows user account, the login will fail and he must be redirected to a forms login page. How can I do this?
Are there any different way to provide mixed authentication?

I've used the built-in wizard in Visual Web Developer 2008 to create a simple login system. I'd like to get hold of the logged in user's ID, but I'm not sure how. Peeking in the ASPNETDB.MDF in the table aspnet_Users, the column appears to be called "UserId". I gave it a go:
Response.Write("ID: " + Session["UserId"]);
but it's coming up blank. How do I do this? (This is not for a live project, no need to point out the sillyness in using the wizard.)

I am trying to build a web site with ASP.NET MVC, I'm new to this. My question is: how can I display the default login dialog? I am not referring to a custom dialog, like the jQuery Dialog, there is a default pop-up for credentials, which looks different depending on browser, same as with javascript alert(), but I don't know how to display it. To know what I mean, go to [URL] there is a Login button at the bottom of the page, when you click it a pop-up appears. That is what I want to display.

I am using Visual Studio 2008 Express and created a login page using the ASP.net web site Adminstration tool security to generate users and passwords.
After login, a new page appears. I have a button to go back to the login page to allow a user to relogin. When I try loging in again as a different user or the same, I get an error saying the resource that I am looing for was not available.
I have a button on the page after login (one this one page will occur) and I am using on on click event to do the following:
FormsAuthentication.Initialize()
FormsAuthentication.SignOut()
Response.Redirect("~/Login.Aspx")
After clicking on this button, the Login page appears again. How can I release everyting to allow it to work like when I first open the application.
This is the error message I get:
Description:
