How To Reduce Image Load Time
Dec 18, 2010
I have a problem of image loading. My site contains around 20 images on home page. It will take to much time to load.
So is there any code in asp.net framework 3.5 that will reduce the load time without jquery or javascript.

I am facing a problem related to webpage loading. After analysing the problem I got the conclusion that this is because of the use of third party control (Telrik Control) on the page.
it loads "ScriptResource.axd?d=VHFRlHPU4ruHmOYm-mEPLk5XeFL0XZCCksSiaq9cH120I4XzMjzdvS3A-Z1Q4FSlJuGkXycxn8tvOxEGZvni7w2&t=634068427680000000"
type of scripts on browser so it take time to load the page. Is there any way to reduce time of loading page?

I need to do parallel processing in my coding because i have 4 sql to fetch data from database which each take me 3-4 minutes.All the tables involved are raw table and that is no way i can reduce the time for the sql.I need to find a way out to reduce the data fetching time.The only thing i canfigure out is to have this 4 sql execute at the same time by doing parallel processing.

My new office project is based on an MVP design and is in VB.NET (.NET 3.5), using multiple libraries (like EntLib, internal corporate framework, etc.). The number of DLLs used as references is so huge (almost 50) that when I try to build/debug the application in VS2008, it takes almost 3-4 minutes to get the website running successfully.Wanted to know if there are any settings/areas which upon some modifications can help me reduce the build time? and what exactly can be the major reasons behind this long loading duration?

I am binding the XML Data to treeview using XMLDataSource. Its working fime, but when the Number of nodes and childnodes increases, the treenode expand and to display the content in iframe takes moer time.
<asp:TreeView ID="TreeView1" OnSelectedNodeChanged = "OnClick" runat="server"
ExpandDepth="0" ShowExpandCollapse="true" ForeColor="Red" Font-Underline = "false"
ondatabinding="TreeView1_DataBinding" CollapseImageUrl = "Resources/TocColapse.bmp" ExpandImageUrl = "Resources/TocParent.bmp" Font-Names="Arial" >
<SelectedNodeStyle Font-Underline="false" BackColor="White" ForeColor="#0483e0" />
<NodeStyle Font-Size="11pt" ForeColor="white" HorizontalPadding="5px"
NodeSpacing="0px" VerticalPadding="0px" Font-Underline = "false" />
<ParentNodeStyle ForeColor="#0483e0" Font-Underline = "false" />
<LeafNodeStyle ForeColor="#0483e0" Font-Underline = "false" ImageUrl = "Resources/TocChild.bmp" />
</asp:TreeView>
<asp:XmlDataSource ID="XmlDataSource1" runat="server" XPath="/*/*" EnableCaching = "false" ></asp:XmlDataSource>
In OnDataBinding event of treeview I implemented the following code:
TreeNodeBinding[] TreeNode = new TreeNodeBinding[Count];
for (int i = 0; i < Count; i++)
{
TreeNode[i] = new TreeNodeBinding();
TreeNode[i].DataMember = TableOfContents[i].GetElementName();
TreeNode[i].TextField = TableOfContents[i].GetFirstAttributeName();
TreeNode[i].ValueField = TableOfContents[i].GetSecondAttributeName();
// TreeNode[i].Target = "contentFrame";
TreeView1.DataBindings.Add(TreeNode[i]);
}

I am using a sql server 2008 database and I am uploading images to the server using an asp.net webapplication. I have an image column that I use to store the images. I have chosen the database to store the image and not a folder on the server, because the database table will contain only very few rows. maybe close to 10 or 15 rows.
My question is, Do I have to reduce the size (dimensions and quality affecting size on disc in kbs) of the image in code behind before uploading it to the database or do I keep it as is. The total upload size permitted is 200kb. I am thinking that when the image size (size in kbs) is small my webapplication performance will not be affected when displaying them from the database.

I have uploaded a .jpg image and resized as Small and Large thumbnail. The small image is (135 X 173) but after resizing the small thumbnail image file size is of 40.8 KB. And mostly all images (around 64) thumbnails having file size more than 40 KB. Due to which thumbnails taking lot of time to get display.
Is there a way through which we can reduce the image file size upto 8 to 12 kb, but without effecting image quaity??
Below is the source code that i am using for resizing an image:
If FileUpload1.HasFile Then
Dim stream As Stream = FileUpload1.PostedFile.InputStream
Dim x As String = IO.Path.GetExtension(FileUpload1.FileName).ToLower
If x = ".jpg" Or x = ".jpeg" Then
Dim image As New Bitmap(stream)

I am working on a ASP.NET 2.0 application. It is hosted on IIS 6 on Windows 2003 server.
Few pages have jpeg images (around 50 images and 50 KB each). It takes long time to load the page for the first time. But when i open the same page for the second or third time it is faster.
why does a web page take long time to load for the first time?
Is it cached somewhere when it loads for the first time? Do we have any control over it?

Issue:
As my pages are taking time to load first time.
So user has to wait till full page gets loaded and thats irritating . Was this the reason MVC was evolved?
Solution :Should i use partial rendering on all pages including home page, and all forms getting called from home page.
So even if half page is loaded thats less frustrating
For Partial rendering what i plan is : i will put Scriptmanager with Enable partial renderingand update panel for half part of page.
So that user dont have to wait for full page to load.
Is my plan correct? Problem is i cannot regenerate page load issue every time.

Have a look at below link. In that page if you mouse over on any thumbnail image a div opens with that image details with larger size. But there is a point to notice usually when an image gets downloaded in the browser we see that the image loads in parts from top to bottom. In this case the whole is loaded but in blurred state and gets cleared after fully downloaded.

I just wanted to know how this is achived? Does it require to code something or it is any javascript or dhtml?

using vb.net/asp.net 2005
I've been tasked with creating a page where the user can do the following in this order:
1. browse to and select a jpg image
2. preview the image that the user just selected
3. if the user is happy with the preview then click the GO button to load the image to the Image folder.Does anyone have any good examples or sample code of how to do this?

I have an ASP.net MVC 2 application that runs well locally. However when I move the files to my production server, I get a first time lag of about 30 seconds, I assume this is a first compile. After that the application works fine. Then after about 20-30 minutes of non use, the applications takes another 30 seconds or so to load.
I did try to precompile the code, but there is still a lag during the first load.
Are there any trick to getting the application to work faster on the first load?
I am using ASP.net 3.5, IIS 6 , visual studio 2010, MVC 2.

I want to create a page with 4 UpdatePainels but when this page loads in the browser only the first UpdatePanel will load and others will be hidden. This others will be load when I click on the buttons located on the first UpdatePanel. My intention is that the page doesn't load entirely at once, just when I click on the buttons. How can I do this?
