View 2 RepliesI have a website and a SQL Server Database. I want to use ASP.Net Membership for login and roles.
View 1 RepliesWhen a user is registered in an MVC application using the default Register action of the Account controller, where is the user info stored? Can I specify that this user table be stored in the database of the MVC application?
I am reading about writing a custom membership provider. I want to have some linkage between application specific user info ( current orders, items the user has ordered ) and the login database. I want to hook the "register a new user" process so that a new customer is added to the customer master.
I've just finished my database design and now i'm going to start implementing it in SQL Server 2008. Since i'm creating an ASP.NET Web Application i would like to use Membership Provider to manage user access to the application. In other projects (more simpler) i used Membership but always with its default parameters.
In this recent application i need to use custom user data for it to work properly.
So, what i would like to know is, how can i use my 'Users' table in my DB with .NET Membership Provider?
When i add asp.net membership provider it uses some default database to add those records?How to change the default database to my own sql database?
View 1 RepliesI have a custom SQL membership provider (NOT using aspdb files but our own 'People' table) that was working fine under development but doesn't even connect when it is deployed on web server. DB connection string has been changed to point to db server (checked against another web site & is fine there). The membership code (in VB) is in App_code directory so am I correct in thinking I don't need a separate DLL ? No error messages nothing just reports failed to login when I type some user credentials.
Web config file as follows

I am trying to build a security webservice that gets credentials from client application login Pages/forms and returns authorization and token(to manage session) information after authenticating using Membership provider. I am having a problem in Securing my webservice and using LDAP and Database together as an identity store distinguished based on a flag provided by clint applications.
View 4 RepliesI am developing an application in which I can connect to the ASPNETDB.MDF if it is on my machine, however, when I want to put it on another machine and try to remote connect it, I get the error:
An error occurred while attempting to initialize a System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection object. The value that was provided for the connection string may be wrong, or it may contain an invalid syntax.
Parameter name: connectionString and my connection string is as follows:
<add name ="NewRemoteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=P1M1_2-HPSQLEXPRESS; AttachDBFilename=C:ASPNETDB.MDF; Integrated Security=SSPI; Username=P1M1_2-HP; Password=plus1minus1; " providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
I have watched the how to video on Creating a Custom Membership provider. So far it works great. My login control interacts well with it etc. Now i've created a Custom Role Provider. I've created a class that inherits the RoleProvider base class and i've added code to each Sub. My question is, what is the best way to implement the role provider, considering I get the Roles etc from the database?
View 11 RepliesI am trying to build an application that
1. user can login by their AD account and password.
2. AD account can be assigned to different group.
I know there is a training video - [URL] to teach how to use the tool to provision the membership schema to SQL server for Forms authentication. but how can I use AD authentication with this?
i have implemented custom role provider and membership provider .
login page : SignIn.aspx
on successful login it redirects to (index-Homepage.aspx)
now PROBLEM is when it successfully logged in ,and redirects to 'index-Homepage.aspx' it gives Anornymoustemplate ..while its verifying the role correctly in index-Homepage.aspx.cs
1 - whats the difference between Role Provider and Membership provider ??
2- If we implement Custom Role Provider or Custom Membership provider then what does this means ? and which Provider do we use when we apply custom role provider or custom membership provider
i'm building an application and i need to manage roles, users and more things so i tought to use the membership provider but i have some questions about it: can i full extend it and can i override the functions to use a database table to store infos about config or i need to build my own provider?

<add name="FirstName"/>
<add name="LastName"/>

I have the code snippet above in my webconfig file. I am attempting to set the FirstName property in codebehind on a register.aspx page. Like this:
Profile.FirstName = ((TextBox)RegisterUser.CreateUserStep.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("FirstName")).Text;
VS says Profile is in System.Web.Profile Namespace. I then use it like this "System.Web.Profile.FirstName", but says first name does not exist in System.Web.Profile.FirstName namespace.
How do I set the property and later retrieve it?
I'm using the ASP.NET SQL Membership Provider. So, there's an aspnet_Users table that has details of each of my users. (Actually, the aspnet_Membership table seems to contain most of the actual data). I now want to store some per-user information in my database, so I thought I'd just create a new table with a UserId (GUID) column and an FK relationship to aspnet_Users. However, I then discovered that I can't easily get access to the UserId since it's not exposed via the membership API. (I know I can access it via the ProviderUserKey, but it seems like the API is abstracting away the internal UserID in favor of the UserName, and I don't want to go too far against the grain).
So, I thought I should instead put a LoweredUserName column in my table, and create an FK relationship to aspnet_Users using that. Bzzzt. Wrong again, because while there is a unique index in aspnet_Users that includes the LoweredUserName, it also includes the ApplicationId - so in order to create my FK relationship, I'd need to have an ApplicationId column in my table too. At first I thought: fine, I'm only dealing with a single application, so I'll just add such a column and give it a default value. Then I realised that the ApplicationId is a GUID, so it'd be a pain to do this. Not hard exactly, but until I roll out my DB I can't predict what the GUID is going to be. I feel like I'm missing something, or going about things the wrong way. What am I supposed to do?
so after a short talk with some people around ASP.NET MVC forum I took a huge step and chose to create my own Custom Membership Data provider.. so I logged into sweet google and started searching , it doesnt look that hard and seems totally possible for me , that's what i thought...
So now I opened visual studio , and started to think on few things .. So before I would start typing code , I would like to ask those questionsSo i would know better
1. when I build an SQL object , or XML or w.e object, how do I know which fields I need for my table ? should i just copy them from aspnetdb or is there somewhere it is written?
2. how the heck do I copy lines from webconfig ? and should I get those lines like "reset password" from web config or not?
3. I saw some parameters in "create User" called providerKey or something like that, and also MembershipState ? what exacly are those ?
4. last question: the functions get username , and password and stuff like that , but what If i want to create my own User Entity , is there a way to change what the function gets ? or should i just make another class that get my custom UserEntity and let the first class to send her the userentity as repository ?
I'm looking for a walkthrough on how to create and use a custom provider for ASP.Net Healthmonitoring.
So far I've only worked with the e-mail provider that generates e-mails on errors. Basically I want to do the same, but with more flexibility: I want to use the HealthMonitoring features (I don't want to use the Application_OnError event in the global.asax) in a way that allows me have access to an event, that gets thrown like "OnNewHealthMonitoringEntry" with all the information provided in the e-mail, to run custom code.
Edit: Based on the source code provided here [URL] I was able to build my own custom provider and implement it. Now I want to add some new attributes to configure my custom provider.
Here is what the web.config looks like:
<healthMonitoring>
<bufferModes>
<add name="Log Notification" maxBufferSize="1" maxFlushSize="1" urgentFlushThreshold="1" regularFlushInterval="Infinite" urgentFlushInterval="00:00:10"/>
</bufferModes>
[code]....
Is it possible to store configuration necessary for custom provider close to the healthMonitoring section? I guess I could include the settings into the appSettings node, but I'd like to configure it somehow with attributes (inside the healthMonitoring node). Is that possible?
Im setting up a site with membership.
The db connection seems to work. I can create new users with the new user wizard control. And they show up in the databaser. But i cant log in. I use the log in control and just get "wrong password". I am sure i type the correct password as i made it very easy. here are my webconfig settings.
There is one thing i have no clue how to configure. The APPLICATION NAME. What is it? And what should i set it to?
<authentication mode="Forms">
This is my first membership provider; I converted the sample provider [URL] to SQL. I created a vb class provider and put it into the App_Code folder. After it was created I tried to modify my webconfig but the error pops up. I don't know what else to try, I don't know if I have missed something

I made a project to use the access membership provider from [URL] and it works. But I need to edit my database but when I configure my database, I cannot see the tabel, I can only see the queries in mdb file. when I select the field from query, I am unable to update it. My code is as follows:

I am building my first asp.net app from scratch. I have two different membership providers. One is a basic sql provider while the other is active directory. The user "role" is determined by how the user logs in. I want to use the Role Manager functionality of asp.net but I don't want to build the whole role provider part when I really don't have "roles" in my application, I have two membership types.
Is there a way to set the role of the user through the membership provider at login or in some way mark a logged in user as having been authenticated by sql or AD?
This is my first asp.net app, am I even thinking about this the right way?
How i can realise my own Membership Provider for my social network example project where i want to use more extended registration with new fields?
View 3 RepliesI am using SQL Membership Provider to create user accounts for my web site and for some reason, the CreateDate and LastLoginDate fields are NOT saving the current time of my machine when I add a new user to the website. It is showing the previous day's date and the time is displayed as PM when it's AM and vise-versa in the CreateDate and LastLoginDate fields in aspnet_Membership table. I am developing and running the website via localhost on my laptop using IIS 7 (Windows 7). Does this have anything to do with my laptop's clock settings or is there something I need to configure in the web.config file or in IIS.
View 4 RepliesThe default implementation is not very appropriate normally and I haven't seen so far a good implementation of a custom membership provider, probably because this is not possible.
View 1 RepliesI want to know how I can implement membership provider class to have ability to remember users who signed in. I have Membership provider class and I need functionality of "Remember Me" checkbox but I don't know how I can implement some methods
