what type of project I have to pick when building one which will contain User Controls?
I am creating a class library which will have business logic and i want to call this from SQL Server 2005 DTS. What i want to know is how to consume a WCF service from this class library project and compile it in a dll. How to deal with app.config created when servie is refered in class library? Could somebody send me a link to any article which can help me to implement the same in my current project?
View 11 RepliesI am trying to find a way to have my Entity Framework model in a seperate project within my ASP.NET solution.
Currently I have my DataManager project (which contains my EF model and some classes) and a second project which contains all my web project files.
The problem that I have come across is that I have a database connection string in a App.Config file in my DataManager project and the same connection string in my Web.Config from my web project. I basically have a duplicate connection string.
Is there a way to only use only one connection string in my project (preferably from my web.config)?
My only concern is that when it comes to compiling my project I will not be able to change the connection string in the App.Config contained in my DataManager project.
i have a web service project called (WS_Service) i have a html page thats trying to consume WS_Service. i have web services sits on its own project (the reason i have created is because its independednt and can be called from .aspx or .html or mobile) i dont have problem with .aspx and i have just add the reference and fire the services. but i am not sure how i will be doing on .html page below is my code i am trying to POST to a web service:

I have a web service set up on an IIS server. When I navigate to the page in a web browser it asks me for my user name an password, as desired. However I want to consume the service in a .NET application (C#). What do I need to do to provide a user name and password programmatically so that I can consume the service? Or is there some other way I should be authenticating a user?

View 1 RepliesI have a Website (File->New website) that uses Web User Controls extensively. Those controls are added dinamically - LoadControl - by reading a database and loading the control (ex: LoadControl(xpto.ascx) ). So, everytime I develop as new webusercontrol, I copy the ascx and vb file to the directory, add a line to the database and the webpage automatically load the control. Everything runs well.
Now I want to do the same with a Web Project (File->New project->Web project). I understand that all is compiled, so no code on the server. So, how can I mimic the same feature? Because I cannot simply copy the ascx file (without the vb file), or can I?
i created a web project and add some class and user controls (ASCX files). then i build it and from the generated DLL file.
i add it (DLL file) to my actual web application and called the classes that i have made everthing works fine.
so the problem is the web user control, i don't know how can i use it. i know that it must be place to the aspx file but how?
I've converted an old school website project to a web application project. I've always registered all of my user controls in the web configs for easier maintainability. After converting the project type. None of my user controls registered in my web config are recognized any longer. In the designer files, it looks like it's unable to resolve the actual control and it's defaulting to some <namespace>.<ControlName> that is totally wrong. I really don't want to have to go through and put Register tags in each page where a control is used. In my web config i'm registering my control as follows:

I'm using Visual Studio 2010. I've seen several article around the internet that allude to an issue back in VS2005. Scott Gu commented on several. I haven't seen anything specifically referring to issue in 2010. Has anyone else encountered this type of issue. I provided a really brief overview and i would be happy to go into more detail

View 4 RepliesI recently updated my VS2010 website project from .NET 3.5 to 4.0. Everything was working fine in the website project. Today I decided to migrate the website to a web application project as I have learned this is the best way to work in .NET. I split out all my class files into a separate class library and copied all my other content into my new project. Then I updated all the references and web.config.
When I build the class library, everything works great. The problem is happening when I try to build/debug the web application project. It is acting like all the controls are missing and it is also throwing a bunch of compile errors about the public properties I have in my master pages.
Control errors: "The name 'INSERT CONTROL NAME HERE' does not exist in the current context"
Master page errors:'System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition....
It is giving these errors for every single control and master page property in my entire solution.I notice when I add a new web.form to this project, it also adds a filename.aspx.designer.cs file in addition to the .aspx and .aspx.cs file. My existing files do not have these extra files since they were created in a different .NET version.
UPDATE: It seems I was missing the step where I need to right click on the new application folder and select "Convert to web application". I just did that and it seems to be a little bit better...
Now it is choking on Literals that are inside single quotes:

It doesn't see this literal when it does the conversion... Is the above valid code or should I implement that functionality another way?
When I turn on Code Coverage in my test settings, on a project that references the Unity DI container I get the following error:

I have a published web project. I want to add some .ascx files (with .cs & designer.cs files) to that published web site. These are simple custom user controls that access methods already part of the original application. Question? Is it possible to just drop these in the published web project without building the entire solution? If not why? When I drop these files in and run my application I get the error: "Parse Error: Could not load type 'the name of my custom controls namespace'". There is not a lot of code to show so this is all I have.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to implement my own Membership provider. I don't want to dig in very details but only high level logic. And first I don't understand is how can I use the class User generated from database in my CustomMembershipProvider project?
I thought I shouldn't generate class User in my project which uses my custom provider because it just don't need any users. It's only for login/logout functionality which implements Membership provider, not project that uses it.
Then I thought that I should pass Connection String to my Membership provider in order to make UserEntity somehow and use it inside Membership provider. I have two separate project for Membership provider and for any else project using Membership.
How could I create and use ADO.NET Entity in CustomMembershipProvider project for User table which located in database in other project?
I there a way to get the user id that they signed on to the computer with from web site project, without changing IIS so they will have to login? This will be interanet and remote internate users.

- Windows 7 Enterprise
- VS2008 Team System SP1
- SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition SP1
I have altered the database connection to use the default instance by setting to blank using
Tools -> Options -> Database Tools -> Data Connection : SQL Server Instance Name
I also note from the SQL Server Books Online that the user instance feature will be removed in the future, but for now it suits my effort in developing an application where a number of people are working on the project.
Has anyone managed to create a database in the same manner?
I am facing problem to consume rss feeds, I found several articles on How to consume RSS feeds, they helped me to some extened but I didn't get info for what exactly i am looking. My problem is: I tried to consume feeds from these two [URL]

I can easily retrieve the data I want and get it to show in i.e. a Repeater control.My problem is, that the blog (Wordpress) that I'm getting the RSS from uses for linebreaks which I obviously can't use in HTML. i have not worked with XML in a while can someone post the syntax needed to build and save an xml node structure that resembles that of a tree structure that is created by a recursive function.
basically i have a recursive function that saves data found an a page(url) and then follows each URL found on that page recursivley and does the same to it. to audit this i want an output as a xml file to disk so i can see how it is doing its recursion and parsing.
the code i have is below. please add to it the needed xml calls needed to create a xml structure like the one i show below. (please include the full name space so i can see where the objects i need in .net are for this.)
