Say I've got a database with about 5,000 blog posts from the last 2 years, I'm trying to create 'monthly' archives so I can display the data in a much more logical way. For some reason I've never really had to work with date's all that much and my knowledge is lacking. I'm using Linq/C#; can someone point me in the right direction to learn how to do this?

However when I review values into a data control (GridView, FormView... etc.) I am unable to get to the values in the data controls logically. How do I reference these values? Is there a better way than using data controls?

How to display empty GridView to insert new record if no data retreived for some record on the result from data table?Actually i am trying to give a user an option to add recrod from Gridview. On result of some query it is perfectly displaying data and a footer row with the insertion textbox but when there is no data in the gridview it is not displaying. View 5 RepliesI have a listview control bound to an SqlDataSource. As part of the formatting I want to add a title to the data returned from my database. For instance if the data base returns a phone number I want to add 'Tel.' first. However I do not want to diplay this
title if the datafield is empty. Here is what I have done so far.

I have a many to many table in my database called PeopleLanguage
PeopleId, pk and Languags pk each go to the own table People and Language
I know make a method call with my objectdatasource GetPeopleByLanguageId
This returns the languages that the selected person speaks and has a select
query also to lanaguageTable to get LanguageName.
I now print out the results in a datalist that is binding to LanguageName.
What i want to do is show the languages in a horizontal format with a comma after each one.
At the moment if there are 3 languages it shows each one on a seperate line / if I make it horizontal
layout I still dont get a comma. Perhaps I can use a repeater?

However, I can only figure out how to display the images but am clueless about the other type of files. What adjustments do I need to make so that with a button click I can access the other files? 't By the way, I'm using an image control to display the binary data and I'm aware that that will only work to display images, I just don't how to access all the other types of files once uploaded.

When i bind data to this grid view, i get an error saying column "PM 2" was not found. For some reason, the program is dropping the .5 from the column name. I am exploring the possibility of replacing the number with alphabets only but this may not be possible as the end user may not find it user friendly. Is there a way for me to get around this problem? I get a similar problem with B(a)p, it drops everything after the B. Any ideas on how to get the gridview to bind column names with special chars in it?
I'm having a problem with the results of a Gridview. The SQL statement I use works in SQL Management Studio, but in my .NET app, it only display a few of the results. The part of the SQL that seems to be effecting it is in the where statement I use like:

we have a classic ASP Webpage for displaying reporting data.
The process is following:
user inputs reporting criteria reporting criteria are passed to a method in a VB6 DLL containing the reporting business logic (generating a dynmic sql statement) VB6 DLL method returns xml data xml data are displayed with xsd transformation 150.000 datarows are displayed in some seconds (less than 10 seconds maybe) Now we want to extend this reporting function and decided to use asp.net (2.0) So I have written a little prototyp application with a SqlDataSource Object and a GridView Control.
A table with less data (about 100 or so) are displayed quickly.
But a view with about 150.000 datarows needs about 2 minutes and ended with a OutOfMemoryException!
The request of the customer is definitvely to display the data on one page like in the old classic asp application!

I have a daily task database that stores the
date, project number, start time, end time and total time
One date could have multiple entries.
I'm trying to link my data to a calender so when I pick a date all the daily tasks are pulled into a gridview.
Also I want the calendar to pull up a blank form where I can input all that info in if the date has no entries.
My application stores images in a particular directory, and I would like to display these images (in rows and columns) on a webform, with the "Remove" link on each of them in order to delete some of them if necessary.
Are there any links that may point me to the right direction? Most of the links I found dealt with displaying images that came from a string stored in a table.

It's for a display screen that will show workers how much product they have produced.
I was looking at binding the data to lables and laying out the lables in a table but that process looks intense and streching my knowledge.
