Map A Logical File To A Physical File?
Mar 17, 2011Is there any way to have a file request from a browser to web page get automatically remapped to a storage location known only by the web site?
Maybe somekind of web.config settings?

i am trying to insert with bulk and getting the following
Cannot bulk load because the file "D:inetpub.........insertgid.csv" could not be opened. Operating system error code 3(The system cannot find the path specified.).
the path is correct, dont know why not working.
I'm getting tired figuring out this error. Well, Basically. I have uploaded my ASP.net website to a server (IIS installed) as well as the VB project I made.
BOTH are connecting to a DB named CLIENTS.
the website uses a datagrid to show data, while the VB Project updates the DB based on a monitored folder.
The Problem is If the website is opened first the VB project shows an error "Unable to open the physical file (MDF). Operating system error 32 (error not found)" and Vice Versa if the VB project is first started.
I have copied a DB from one my computers and using it here. On trying to open the page which requires the fetching content from DB, on con.open I am getting this exception:
Unable to open the physical file "E:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL10.SQLEXPRESSMSSQLDATAcakephp.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)".
In Visual Studio, when I test the connection, it says "Test connection succeeded". However, there is one strange thing going on. When I login to the Management Studio, there is no + sign with the newly attached database, as shown.
I am trying to user the Response.TransmitFile() to prompt a download.
I have read a number of posts on the issue and based my method off Rick Strahl's blog [URL]
The only difference (that I can tell) is that I am targeting a physical file outside of the virtual directory.
This code is called in an ajaxified radgrid... I wonder if the response.transmitfile doesn't work with ajax calls?
Here is my code snippet:

I have my owned siteMapProvider, I need phisical file path to initialize it but I can't use HttpContext to do that, because IIS 7 will thrown exception:
fileName = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath(fileName);
How can I do MapPath without HttpContext?
I have some processes that run without an HttpContext in an ASP.NET MVC web application. This process needs to be able to determine the physical path to the Contents directory of the application for reading/writing data. But, since it is without an HttpContext, I don't get to use fancy things like Server.MapPath and such.
View 2 RepliesI have been supplied this example for a force download[URL]However, what I would like to know what to do is to hide from the users the physical file path from the users as they do not have direct access to this server. Is there away for me to keep this file path private on a download?
View 3 RepliesI am having a fileuploade control on my aspx page. On button click I want the physical fullpath of my file, which i am going to upload on server. If the file is in desktop then it should show C:Users Admin1DesktopSampleHonourImages.png
I have used Path.GetFullPath(Fileupload1.FileName) but it is giving C:Program Files (x86)IIS ExpressHonourImages.png instead of actual path
I have to create PDF Files reading data from SQL Server where the data is in Binary format as Image data type.
View 2 RepliesAssume the current executing action method is Index() in Home controller. From within Index(), how to obtain the physical file path of the Home controller? Assume we don't know the file structure until runtime.
View 2 Repliesmy ASP.NET application reads an xml file to determine which environment it's currently in (e.g. local, development, production).
It checks this file every single time it opens a connection to the database, in order to know which connection string to grab from the Application Settings.
I'm entering a phase of development where efficiency is becoming a concern. I don't think it's a good idea to have to read a file on a physical disk ever single time I wish to access the database (very often).
I was considering storing the connection string in Application["ConnectionString"].
[code].....
I didn't design the application so I figure there must have been a reason for reading the xml file every time (to change settings while the application runs?) I have very little concept of the inner workings here. What are the pros and cons?
here's the code so far:
[Code]....
[Code]....
mov is a quicktime file, my server has the mimetype: video/quicktime .......... but as I read, this code forces the save as download box which is exactly what i want :) now, here's the catch, i the file I am fetching is NOT on the physical path... it is on a completely different server:Protected Sub LinkButton1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LinkButton1.Click
Response.Clear()
Response.ContentType = "x-msdownload"
Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", ("attachment; filename=mydownload.mov"))
Response.TransmitFile("http://myOTHERserver.com/files/mydownload.mov")
Response.End()
End Sub
Obviously this doesn't work since TransmitFile requires that the file be on your physical path, so how do i do this? Someone said you must use the stream method. Do you have any sample code I could try? I've tried the HTTPStreamReader object but it's giving me issues, so I would love to find out if there is anyway this might work. Now here's some more important information: this are HUGE video files.. we are creating a downloads page... written in asp.net -- so you create an account using the .net membership class, then you select the file you want, go through a form where you enter your billing info and then after you pay a certain fee (this is already implemented), you go to your "downlaods" area in your account... there you have access to the files......... the reason i'm doing this is because i want to hide the download link, which will be something likehttp://myOTHERserver.com/2340987sdfkjhalsdlkjh23 ... (something really crazy)....... we don't want people seeing this on the status bar (Therefore hiding the download link is ESSENTIAL)........ the files are a good 500MB each approximately; so i would love to hear all of your suggestions as to making the streamreader work for me and how long would it take for the streamreader to READ the file........
I would like ask you for some ideas how can I write mechanism that will be automatically read files from folder. I don't know how to schedule the write task. I want to check for new file everyday and if the new file is in the folder read it.
View 2 RepliesI have an asp.net panel having various controls including gridview. I have converted this panel into pdf and attached it as an email attachment using memory stream. Everything is working fine. Now I have an File upload control outside panel through which I have to attach a file and send it in mail along with the already attached panel. But I am unable to figure out how to do it.
View 1 RepliesI am downloading file from database using the following code. This code downloads an excel file from the database which has a macro attached to it when it is opened. This macro reads file name of the excel file and uses it for its computation. Everthing works file if user saves the file on his harddisk and then open if but if he directly opens the file from the dialog(by hitting 'Open' button) then file name of the opened excel file comes out be the name of the webform that has the above code and this leads to error in the macro. Is there any option through which i can control the name of the file if user directly opens the file from dialog or the option to disable or remove 'Open' button form the dialog?

my project is in c sharp and must upload pictures to MySql DataBasethe uploadfile controle is included in asp form that i made but the problem is that the uploadfile always get the Postedfile = null i tried to use html input file but the same problem still

I am using the async file upload control to upload to a image file. I want the user to upload only jpg files. And for that I am checking the uploadedfile content type in server side, after the upload complets. I wanna check this, before upload starts. There is one javascript method
function startUpload(sender, args){}
but how to access the content type of the file selected by user.
Say I've got a database with about 5,000 blog posts from the last 2 years, I'm trying to create 'monthly' archives so I can display the data in a much more logical way. For some reason I've never really had to work with date's all that much and my knowledge is lacking. I'm using Linq/C#; can someone point me in the right direction to learn how to do this?
View 2 RepliesI have a WCF service running under IIS7. It can be accessed just fine at http://myserver.domain.com/myservice.svc
I don't want to change the physical location or name of this file but I want calls to http://myserver.domain.com/this/here to be handled by http://myserver.domain.com/myservice.svc
In MS Access I can write a query like this (where ClassA, ClassB, etc, are boolean fields):
SELECT [ClassA] Or [ClassB] Or [ClassF] AS HasPrints, EntrySummary.EntrantID, EntrySummary.CompID, EntrySummary.ClassA, EntrySummary.ClassB, EntrySummary.ClassC, EntrySummary.ClassD, EntrySummary.ClassE, EntrySummary.ClassF
FROM EntrySummary;
However that method of deriving a calculated HasPrints value is not acceptable in ASP.NET. How can I rewrite my query in a standard SQL query format?
I used following code,

In my database....
I am using HTML file control and HTML image control in .aspx page (for uploading image and showing on web page). It is working fine. But I am unable to get that uploaded image file path and file name in .aspx.cs page. And also tell me how to save selected image in MS ACCESS database.
I have to copy a file from client machine to server folder without use file upload control.
i tried with WebClient().Like this
Dim onbjweb As New WebClient()
onbjweb.UploadFile(Server.MapPath(serverpath), "POST", LocalFilePath).
Its working fine in localhost.When its deployed in server its not working.
I am using JQuery & JSON (POST) to call webmethod. However I can call only webmethod located at aspx file but not in asmx file Below are sample codes
CustomValidate.asmx
Imports System.Web.Services
Imports System.Web.Services.Protocols
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class CustomValidate
Inherits System.Web.Services.WebService
'ACCESS VIA JSON
<System.Web.Services.WebMethod()> _
Public Shared Function AJAX_Test(ByVal date1) As Boolean...
Return True
End Function
End Class
Javascript: JQuery JSON
function isDates(source, arguments) {
var isValidDate;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test",
data: '{date1: "' + arguments.Value + '"}',
dataType: "json",
async: false,
success: function(result) {
isValidDate = result;
},
error: function(httpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) {
alert("status=" + textStatus + ",error=" + errorThrown);
}
});
arguments.IsValid = isValidDate;
}
It always return javascript undefined error. But if I put the AJAX_Test webmethod in aspx page and replace the url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test" to "mypage.aspx/AJAX_Test". It works fine.
