I am trying to create an admin screen that will give me details about all open sessions in an application/site. I would also like to know how many session objects are active for each of them
Session object gives me info about my current session. How do i find info about all open sessions. How many sessions are active, etc.
My site uses cookies. I need to have it use sessions instead. The reason for this is because there is a third party that needs to connect to it, and it's always requiring 3rd party cookies to be enable in the browser and that is annoying my customers. Is there any other way around this other than switching to sessions?
View 4 Repliesi lunched an asp.net web-site. the main idea in the site is that:the site shows the same page, but on each next button the user clicks, the pictures in the site change randomly. im working with postback and sessions.
i noticed that when a few users try to log into my site - their sessions are merging. meaning, the first picture presented is diffrent but the second picture is the same for all the users, and so on... (moreover, pictures that appears in the begining appearing again even thow i don't allw it in my code)when i tried to debug the site locally, the random function works perfectly and there were no such problems. it haapens only when 2 users and more log into my site.
I'm modifying a Castle-Monorail site that I've inherited and found that it would be useful to see a list of currently online users. Currently there are Filters that determine who can access which parts of the site so I can distinguish logged in sessions from non-logged in sessions. Is there an easy way of getting a list of active sessions so that I could then work out who is logged in?

Everything works fine, but we are making improvements to some reports and adding new reports, so we are doing this in .NET, with that said, after reviewing the secuirty code, there are 2 sessions that are set and used thru-out the site as part of some of the individual page queries.
I know that the sessions are being populated, because the reports that use those values return records.. now with a new report we are working on, i need to pass those values into my query. But when i try using the session names the page is coming up saying the following:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Is there anyway to add something to my page code to see what sessions are actually being created and their values.. maybe im using the wrong variable names.. but the security code is pretty straight forward.. at login, if successful, 2 values are returned and stored in 2 sessions.. i need to use those with my new page.. so trying to figure out why the existing pages work fine with that and my new page does not..
Basically, i'd like to write to the screen the session variables that are being created on the login page.
I am wondering if it is possible to clear a session variable if the user navigates away from my site.
My example is I have a session storing the logged in user. This is checked for user access to each page.
If the user goes to another site (e.g. google) I want them to relog into the site.
This is to prevent others getting access to a users account if they use the same pc minutes.
I do have a logout that performs this and I know that it is impossible to make users use it! :)
Is there anyway to actually remove all the sessions once the user leaves the site/application or when he/she closes the browser?

I am going through the ServerObject and found Sites but am not finding anything obvious for "this site". What should I do to get at the information for the exact site in IIS7 that the page is running on?

I've been asked to create a page which will provide identical information from another page. The key thing is, from my understanding, that it is not data driven it's from a txt file wich is updated. This info will need to be reflected on the page I'm going to create. how to "pull" or get the information w/o the help of database?

I wanna save what links a user clicks on in a website. I thought of creating a jquery function that would save the link name everytime a link is clicked , then ajax the info to the db after the user closes the site.
Does that sound like a proper way. Anyone have samples of that?
Since there are multiple pages with multpile links, I wanna create something equivalient to a Session variable in javascript so I can append info to it everytime a user clicks a link and send the info only once to the db, instead of everytime a user clicks a link open a db connection and send the info.
The links are products so I wanna save related products, so I wanna save related product infomation. Maybe I need a cookie instead?

I have the above statement in the Page_Load sub on the masterpage. When I run "Start Debugging" from VS 2008 it works fine. However, when I publish the Web Site (on the same machine) and try to load the site from our internal network, the information is blank.
My site is running through Windows Server Standard, from where i can found 404 errors that are generating on site. I already checked Windows Logs --> Application but could not find them.

Base on what I've tried, the menu Web Site --> ASP.Net Configuration appears only if you create a website by File --> New Website.
What I am actually trying to find is the Web Site Administration Tool (WSAT).
I'm currently writing a web app in ASP.NET MVC 1.0 (although I do have MVC 2.0 installed on my PC, so I'm not exactly restricted to 1.0) -- I've started with the standard MVC project which has your basic "Welcome to ASP.NET MVC" and shows both the [Home] tab and [About] tab in the upper-right corner. Pretty standard, right? I've added 4 new Controller classes, let's call them "Astronomer", "Biologist", "Chemist", and "Physicist". Attached to each new controller class is the [Authorize] attribute. For example, for the BiologistController.cs

These [Authorize] tags naturally limit which user can access different controllers depending on Roles, but I want to dynamically build a Menu at the top of my website in the Site.Master Page based on the Roles the user is a part of. So for example, if "JoeUser" was a member of Roles "Astronomer" and "Physicist", the navigation menu would say:
[Home] [Astronomer] [Physicist]
[About]
And naturally, it would not list links to "Biologist" or "Chemist" controller Index page. Or if "JohnAdmin" was a member of Role "Admin", links to all 4 controllers would show up in the navigation bar. Ok, you prolly get the idea... Now for the real question... Starting with the answer from this StackOverflow topic about Dynamic Menu building in ASP.NET, I'm trying to understand how I would fully implement this. (I'm a newbie and need a little more guidance, so please bare with me.) The answer proposes Extending the Controller class (call it "ExtController") and then have each new WhateverController inherit from ExtController.
My conclusion is that I would need to use Reflection in this ExtController Constructor to determine which Classes and Methods have [Authorize] attributes attached to them to determine the Roles. Then using a Static Dictionary, store the Roles and Controllers/Methods in key-value pairs. I imagine it something like this:

Is this doable? If so, how do I perform Reflection in the ExtController constructor to discover the [Authorize] attribute and related Roles (if any) ALSO! Feel free to go out-of-scope on this question and suggest an alternate way of solving this "Dynamic Site.Master Menu based on Roles" problem. I'm the first to admit that this may not be the best approach.
I'm trying to increase the execution timeout and file upload limit on my asp.net website but when i try to add

According to this msdn library link this is how I'm supposed to do it,so what am I missing here?
I have a form element which submits some data to a server. The server responds with a new version of a page.I added jquery code to hijack the form: validate it (using jquery validate) and if correct send post request. The success function then should find one div and one span elements (they have id's set ("board" and "calcSpan")) in the returned html-page and replace the old one's with the received elements.
For some reason it finds only the second div, the result of the search for the first div is jquery-object containing no html.Here is the javascript-code:

I am making an online form (literal form) that needs to have a certain function: when the user enters a 5-digit number, the form should automatically query the MS SQL DB and retrieve information associated to that number and populate other form elements (text boxes, etc.) accordingly.
So say the # was 12345 and in the DB, the record matching 12345 has name=Fred. So, when I enter 12345 into the form textbox, the name text box should be automatically populated with Fred in it.
If this is not easily achievable, I guess a submit button beside the 5-digit number text box can do.
I am still learning my way around ASP.NET and Visual Studio 2005, however I have ample experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C/C++. The ASP.NET app is to be written in C#.
