Hopefully I am posting this in the correct forum.
I am having a problem with my ASP.Net Web application. The application is developed using vb.net and is linked to a SQL Server database. Let me explain how the application works and the problem I am experiencing. The system is an online web app which allows registered users to create a CV online. One of the pages within the app gives users the chance to add a cover note to their CV. The page that allows them to do this consists of only a textarea control and a button control. The textarea allows users to input up to 4,000 characters.
Once the user clicks the 'Save' button to save their cover note info, the following code then executes.This code checks to see if the CV already has cover note info, if it does, then the application runs an update statement, otherwise, it runs an insert statement.The table within the database which records the cover note information is called tbl_covernote and has three columns, covernote_id (int and autoincrement), cv_id(int), covernote_text (nvarchar(max)).
The error which occurs sometimes is as follows:
Dim dr As SqlDataReader
Dim param(0) As SqlParameter
Finally [code]...

I am currently using the brinkster hosting (Pro Package) but recently they change my hosting to the new one and after that I got an error for sometimes and my session also expired very fast. Below is the feedback from Brinkster.
Thank you for letting us know about your recent experience with your application. From what we are able to find regarding your application problems, they appear to be related to your ms access database. Due to limitations of ms access, you may want to consider updating the database running your website to mysql. A Mysql database is available to your account at no additional charge.
MS access begins to experience issues like database locks (which is what appears to be happening to your application) when there are more than 3 or 4 concurrent connections to the database for reads. MS access is also only able to have one write connection open at any given moment. MS access databases are more susceptible to corruption and data loss than database application built for large application use and Enterprise or corporate use.
When you were hosted on the previous server, your IIS application pool was getting reset many times per day. This action was in effect unlocking your ms access database from its locked state. After we moved you to the new system and raised your memory utilization limit, your application does not receive resets more than one or two times a week. I have lowered your memory utilization from 200 to 100 in an effort to have your application reset more often, unlocking your database if it has began to cause issues.
My question is, do i have a choice to avoid change my database from MS Access to MySQL? Is MS Access database really have such problem as they mension or somethingelse happen on their server?

The problem is I have a stored procedure that runs consistently in Sql Server Management Server with a time of 2 seconds but when calling that same stored procedure from code it times out.
When it runs correctly from SSMS it should return about 30 rows.
I've tried a few different ways to call the procedure from code but every time the same result. This just recently started happening, yesterday it was working fine.
The preferred method for calling the procedure for us is using Linq2Sql which gives the following error message:

We are seeing the following timeout error being logged into our Event Viewer every now and then. We are using LINQ to connect to the SQL Server 2008 and the connection string is defined in the web.config file.One wierd thing I noticed is that the .NET framework is timing out trying to detect if this is SqlCe connection string. Why is it trying to waste time and then timing out when we have a SQL Server 2008 as the database?
What can I do to fix this problem?
Server: Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit
\IIS 7.5.7600.16385 Application Pool: Integrated Mode with 32-Bit Applications Enabled. Queue Length = 5000, Indentity = Network Service.Database Server: SQL Server 2008

We have been getting this Oracle connection pool exception a lot recently for our ASP.NET website. This is the detailed exception message:
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached.
This is our connection string
User ID=user1;password=password1;DATA SOURCE=Datasource1
how to set max pool size to 1 so that I can debug it on my local?
what is the recommended pool size for a website with 10,000 users?

VS2010/C#. I have a gridview bound to a SQL Server table with the default SELECT statement returning only a few rows. This is straight out of the box, so no need to show markup.
Upon a button click event I update the datasource: SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = hdnSQL.Value; Then bind: qlDataSource1.DataBind();
But when I run this, I get this error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was unhandled by user code. Message=Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
I am clueless. I have done this many times in the past and NEVER encountered a timeout.

We have the timeout value set to 120 in our <form> tag within the web.config. We do not have a session timeout set.. and we have various connection strings.
We are having a problem where a session variable will disappear (become NULL) .. but, the form evidently remains 'open'.. or no re-login is required..... so, my question(s):
1. what is the relationship between form timeout and session timeout
2. how do I set session timeout

I have a table which stores records about a promotion programs. For each record, there are different status such as Begin, Successful, Unsucessful, Expired and there are PromotionDate and PromotionExpiredDate. I am just wondering how I can set each promotion to auto expired (auto change the status of each promotion status to Expired) when the current date is bigger than the PromotionExpiredDate.

I've been running a customer's webapplication using automatically generated email for some time, being hosted on our company's web server. Send mail was done using the System.Net.Mail API using a 3rd party SMTP server. The configuration has been done in the web.config in the system.net section, something like this:
<system.net>
<mailSettings>
<smtp>
<network host="mail.jazzforum.at" userName="myUsername" password="myPassword" port="25"/>
</smtp>
</mailSettings>
</system.net>
Everything worked fine until we had to migrate to another hosting service; since then, send mail didn't work any longer with symtomatic "timeout" exceptions. We also tried using gmail and changing/omitting explicit port number specification, without any success. The server is running IIS 6 (Windows Server 2003 R2).

I have added following setting to my web.config file but I am getting the same error:
<security>
<requestFiltering>
<requestLimits maxAllowedContentLength="2000000000"></requestLimits>
</requestFiltering>
</security>
What could be wrong?
