View 2 RepliesI recently bought a new computer, so I want to copy the projects into current system which has visual studio. I have a project developed in VWD 2008. I copied the folder into a flash drive and copied it back into the new system.
Knowing the location, how I do import the project into new system?
I started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through DreamSpark ). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio.
However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Is there perhaps some way that I can edit the project file so that it will load and compile correctly?
Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully. However, I notice that MVC references in my unit-test project don't seem to be resolved either - is this perhaps because MVC2 isn't actually installed properly?
I wonder how to add a project template called Intelligence Reports, something like that, to Visual studio 2008. I have SQL 2008 installed. Do I need to install some updates to get Intelligence Reports template to Visual studio 2008 ?
View 1 RepliesI have Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition- Version 3.5 SP1 (9.0.30729.1 SP).I've noticed when working through examples they show a window, Create Unit Test Project, but that this window never appears when I follow their steps.Do I need to go somewhere and check a box so the program will give me this window?Does this mean VS2008 didn't install correctly?
View 2 RepliesI'm new at ASP.NET. I'm trying to follow the first video tutorial in this link (Web Forms): [URL]. I see the guy using the same IDE as I use. He goes to File > New Project. I do not have the NEW PROJECT item in the FILE tab. Therefore I cannot follow the steps. I do not have the templates either for MVC or Web Forms

View 3 RepliesI'm about to upgrade to Visual Studio 2010, and I'm learning that there are now a few options for deploying web application projects. I've been using Web Deployment Projects in 2008, and my initial thought was to do the same in 2010.
Is there any advantage to using Publish or the Web Deployment Tool over Web Deployment Projects?
I need to automate the process so that the build and the deployment can be run from TeamCity. I'd prefer a method that would allow me to use the Visual Studio (sln) Runner but a custom MSBuild script would be OK too. See Web Application Deployment Workflow with SVN and TeamCity for more information on my current build/deployment workflow.
I have an application that I'm deploying via the Publish Wizard from Visual Studio 2008. I've added some code to my application that adds a few registry keys. I'd like to execute some code during the uninstall process to remove these registry keys.
View 1 RepliesI have been using VWD2010 Express for a website that I am working on. Due to a delay in implementing the 4.0 framework at the hosting service that I use, I need to finish up with VWD2008 Express. Is there a simple way to save my project so that it is compatible with 2008?
View 2 Repliesi have created a login.aspx file in visual web developer .now i want to connect the username and password details to SQL database
View 1 RepliesI just decided to add 2010 express onto my work computer to run along side 3.5. The install was fine but when you go to click "Obtain a registration key online" after opening visual studio it takes you to a microsoft page that errors out before loading.
View 6 RepliesI need to obfuscate a dll that is used in a ASP.NET project, the deployment project pruduces a setup.exe which I want to distribute. I have the VS 2008 Dotfuscator installed but when I build the deployment project the project that creates the dll is rebuilt before it is added to the deployment project and added to the setup.exe.
View 1 RepliesI follow the instruction of installing a new feature with the application SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe and I get to a fail telling me that VS 2008 needs to be upgraded to SP1.
This I have done several times with the final message saying successfully installed yet 'About' shows only

View 2 RepliesI would like to publish our MVC project to the server where we want to put our mvc website via ftp.
If we manually do this by an ftp connection, it works fine. But we wanted to do it also by the publsh option in Visual Studio 2010. But when we do this we got the following error.

According to this website, I can go to Visual Studio 2005 Web Deployment Projects, and download the add-in, but I am not finding what I need. I have searched other sites for the add-in as well, but with no luck. where I can download the add-in?
If not, can someone provide documentation on how to properly deploy an ASP Web application? I have tried on my own, but I am apparently doing something incorrectly or incompletely, as I have several different problems with my current deployment. So I am looking to start over with the help of this add-in or by following more detailed documentation.
i have a project which runs fine when I build it and run it. But when I add an web deployment project to the same, it throws out a "server block is not well formed" error in Default.aspx page
through googling i found out that it may have something to do with page/server directives. but i cant figue out what is wrong with this code.
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="KnowledgeBase.Web.UI._Default" %>
We are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however. At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum

I'm migrating from the website model to the web project model. In the past I used ssl/ftp (server is IIS7) to upload a website. The host (DiscountASP.NET) using VS2008 Publish to upload a project. VS2008 displays the alert that the password will pass in the clear. So ... what is the best practices approach to publishing a project?
1. SSL/FTP (not sure of the implications re: site compilation)
2. VS2008 Publish
3. VS2008 Web Deployment Projects
I have installed VS Team System 2008 from a dvd on my computer, the setup has installed every thing but failled the installation of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The setup terminates my this error"An error has occured during the installation,Could not install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition".
Then I have tried to install sql server 2005 through SQLEXPR.exe. But this .exe file has failed the installation of SQL Server Database Services and MSXML6.
Do anybody have any idea why sql server 2005 is not installing on my machine?
P.S I haven't installed any other version of VS except this VS 2008.
I am trying to get VS 2008 SP1 to precompile a development site using the Web Deployment Project method. I've done this previously with a different site containing ASPX pages, with success. However, this is a third party example web application containing a set of ASCX controls. The idea is that I want to create a precompiled DLL containing the controls, that can then be distributed as a library DLL. I thought the the use of WDP should allow the compiler to compile all the ASCX controls, and then optionally merge them all into a single DLL.
The problem is, the WDP build reports that it succeeds, but the only file generated is the precompiledapp.config file. On closer inspection of the reporting, it seems that the only error reported is:
aspnet_merge : warning 1013: Cannot find any assemblies that can be merged ...
which I assume refers to the DLL merging process at the end of the compile. This that the compiler was unable to find or process any of the ascx controls in the web application, and so didn't produce any DLLs from them.
I don't really understand what is going wrong here. Should I be able to run a Web Deployment Project like this to compile ASCX controls in this way, and if so, what is likely to be going wrong here? Could the ASCX files somehow be protected from the compiler, to prevent redistribution?
