I used to develop web application in the XP with Visual Studio 2005.Now I have moved to the Windows 7 environment. The .Net web application works fine in browser, but I have problems to open the project in the VS2005 SP1. I have already installedService Pack 1 for Vista and Update to support Web Application Projects updates. I surelly have IIS running on my Windows 7. I'm running VS2005 as adminI get error from VS that "Unable to read project file 'abc.vbproj'. The Web Application Project ABC is configured to use IIS Web Sites, you must install all of the following Windows components.- Internet Information Services- IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibility- ASP.NETIn addition, you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account etc.

I am running MS Vista with the 3.5 Framework. I just loaded VS2008 Express and VB 2008 Express. I was able to create a ClassLibrary project (vbproj) in VB2008. However, when I try and open that in VS2008, I get an error : vbproj cannot be opened because its project type is not supported. The thing is that I cannot create any projects in VS2008 excecpt for Blank Solutions, because there are no templates available to choose from when I attempt a FileNewProject in VS 2008.

I installed vs2003.net on sbs2003 with IIS6 (.net framework 1.1) I created my first app, put a label on webform1 and run the project (debug)
1 - messagebox: "Error while trying to run project: unable to start debugging on the web server. The project is not configured to be debugged (I did a lot of searching, found tons of so-called solutions, but neither works)
2 - run the project from the menu Start without debugging. I got a server-error: <authentication mode = Windows in web.config)
Two questions:
a. when the app runs under VS.2003 it uses IIS ?
b. if not, why doesnot run the app ? if so, which website it uses in the IIS-manager (is that the Default website or other ?). What happens when I delete all the websites in IIS-manager and run the app in VS2003 ?

I started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through DreamSpark ). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio.
However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Is there perhaps some way that I can edit the project file so that it will load and compile correctly?
Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully. However, I notice that MVC references in my unit-test project don't seem to be resolved either - is this perhaps because MVC2 isn't actually installed properly?

I upgraded my vs2005 web application to vs2008, after i run the upgrade wizard,It l pop up one error which says that .net framework 2.0 is not available. I can compile the upgraded project but can not run that. I am wondering where in IIS, I can point the project to framework 3.0?
I ran the project, it had the following error,
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested URL: /XX/yy.asmx
Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.4952; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.4955
the project was upgraged to vs2008, i am not sure why it still points to v2.0. Also i looked at the project file, I already upgraded the oracle data access dll(from oracle side) to higher version, it also points to the old version.
The other issue is when i open the Solution, It prompted me to create the virtual diectory: Http://localhost/XX, I clicked yes, will the vitually directory automatically generated? If i go to the view sites/add vitual directory, if i enter VeroValueXmllister, will it automatically generate the Virtually directory? Http://localhost/XX

So bit the bullet and installed vs2010 finally. However, when loading an existing vs2008 project, I am getting this error: "The project type is not supported by this installation." the only thing special about this project is that it's a "web application projects" type. what I've tried so far are these steps, but none of these solve my problem:
(1) run "devenv /setup"
(2) regsvr32.exe "%ProgramFiles%Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0Common7IDEProjectAggregator.dll"

I dont know where to put this Query.
I am trying to open .dbf file from the server for which I have written below code.
Now, the problem is connection string accepts only physical path from the client machine where as I want it to pick file from the server.
System.Data.Odbc.OdbcConnection oConn = new System.Data.Odbc.OdbcConnection();
oConn.ConnectionString = @"Driver={Microsoft dBase Driver (*.dbf)};SourceType=DBF;SourceDB= http://localhost:1308/CNCScheduling/...;Exclusive=No; Collate=Machine;NULL=NO;DELETED=NO;BACKGROUNDFETCH=NO;";
oConn.Open();
System.Data.Odbc.OdbcCommand oCmd = oConn.CreateCommand();
string sPathApp = Request.ApplicationPath.ToString() + "/";
string sPathFull = Request.Url.OriginalString.ToString();
int iPathFullLen = sPathFull.ToUpper().IndexOf(sPathApp.ToUpper());
string sPathPrefix = sPathFull.Substring(0, iPathFullLen) + sPathApp;
string sRPTFile = "XABCL.DBF";
string sCrvPage = "D:\databases\" + sRPTFile;
oCmd.CommandText = @"SELECT * FROM " + sCrvPage ;
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
dt.Load(oCmd.ExecuteReader());

I've an XML file stored in App_Data which is only used to read some configuration on startup. When I attempt to open it within my code, I get an Access to the path ... is denied message.
I'm having trouble understanding why, and how to solve it. I guess in theory I should alter the permissions on the file (and directory), but this hasn't changed anything.
To give a bit more background:1. Its a file bundled with the project, so the setup created by VS2008 writes it to the correct place during install. I didn't think I'd need to do anything unusual post install such that the ASP.NET application would have access.
2. When I've tried publishing this locally, I've not had any problems. - This is only on a test Windows 2003 server.
3. I've ran a simple page to understand the effective user of IIS - It is NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE. I tried granting "Full Access" to this user to this file, and still it doesn't work.The code to open it is simple:
FileStream fs = new FileStream(Server.mapPath(s), FileMode.Open);
Where s is defined as '~/App_Data/myfile.xml
I've even copied and pasted the full path & filename (from the exception) and tried "dir" on it, and it is indeed present (to get around a typo for example).I've also tried running aspnet_regiis.exe /s

I am new to wcf. Referring to http://bloggingabout.net/blogs/dennis/archive/2007/04/20/wcf-simple-example.aspx,
I was able to create a WCF project, host it in a console application & call it from a web application, successfully,But my issue is:
1. In the sample the program logic (say HelloWorld method) is residing in the host service! I think the program logic (all the methods & all) should reside in the WCF application & only host applicication is JUST a means to HOST the WCF. Am I correct. If so how can I do this.
2. In some other samples I see the use of an SVC file (.svc extension). How to use it? When I rt click to add a file in my project, I cannot see any svc file!

I've encountered a problem while installing Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7, I've tried to modify the privileges of the destination folders to no avail, I've also tried to delete everything related to it with a removal tool. The problem is that the installation is always unsuccessful at the same point, providing me a Blue Screen of Death (twice) and the following error message (infinite amount of occasions):
[Code]....
Does anybody know the cause of the error? Is there an easier and less time consuming solution than reinstalling the whole system?

I just downloaded and installled the Microsoft Windows Azure SDK yesterday for the first time and I am having issues running the application as I all I am getting is 503 errors. I run Windows Server 2008 R2 on my development machine and even tested it on another co-workers 2008 R2 and couldn't even compile the application. He got this error instead "A problem occurred while trying to set the "References" parameter for the IDE's in-process compiler. Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component."
From within my Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V Virtual Windows 7 x86 enviroment, I was able to successfully build and run the Windows Azure SDK and it even showed the base ASP.NET application.So my question is, does the Windows Azure SDK for Visual Studio 2010 w/ Visual Studio 2010 SP 1 installed not work under Microsoft Server 2008 R2?

We have a website portal hosted in Windows 2003 server. For security reasons we are using different windows Login user say (xxxx) for signin other than Administrator. Now with this user (xxxx) name I installed .net Windows Application. It was working fine. For some reasons I renamed the original windows Login user(xxxx) to different say (yyyy). Now this .net Windows Application is not working with (yyyy) and even it is not allowing me to uninstall it.

I am maintaining a web site project in VS2005 and have to call a new web service on a remote server. I've done add web reference, and created the .wsdl and .discomap files in the app_webReference folder. When I try to create a object representing the web service in the code ( wsnamespace.serviceName ws = new wsnamespce.serviceName(); ) the code wouldn't compile.
The web site project is already calling other web services. When I right click on the type representing the web service and "go to definition" it takes me to a proxy class (derived from of course SoapHttpClientProtocol) in the metadata. I think this is what's missing for the new web service i'm trying to call. Have I missed any steps?

I have a website written in C# that was running fine on one server. We moved it to another server and have a couple issues. I am mainly a VB.NET coder but can do a few things in C#. This is not a project - it is a website and can open it in VS2008 no problem. This is an admin site for the whole website where the user can add customer comments, etc. When logging in, it works fine. I can go to one of the admin pages after logging in and works. If I go to two other different pages, I get this error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
[Code]....
It turns out this is in the main.master page and it is used by the other pages that load fine. The ApplicationTitle variable is set right in the web.config file and like I said, it shows on the other pages.
My question is why would this code work fine for some pages and not two others? All of these admin pages are under a folder called Admin and the web.config file is in the root folder of the website. Its almost like these two pages cannot see the web.config file in the root folder? Why would that be if thats the case?
