Do I need to serialize my object in some way before setting the 'data' attribute, so that I can call $.ajax() function?
I created a number of standard WCF Services (Service Contract and Host (svc) are in separate assemblies). I fired up a Web Site in IIS to host the Services (i.e., address is [URL]). Then in my Web Site project I added the reference. I am able to call the services normally. I am needed to call some of the services client side. Not sure if I should be looking at articles calling WCF services through AJAX, JQuery, or JSON enabled WCF Services. Some of the changes I made was adding the following to the Operation Contract:

I am attempting to call the service like this in javascript: wcfservices.SetFoo(string Id); Nothing is working. If it is idea or a better solution to call JSON enable, JQuery, etc.... I am willing to make any changes.

I am developed an web application in asp.net. In this application I have used jquery ajax for some pages. In this application, when I make two ajax call asynchrounoulsy that would not do as I expceted. what is happening is even the second ajax call finishes i can see the result when the maximum time out ajax call finished. I mean i can see the both results in the same time, not one by one. for an example. I have 3 pages
1) main.aspx - for make two ajax request.
2) totalCount.aspx - to find the total count. (max it takes 7 seconds to return, as corresponding table contains 3 lak records)
3) rowCount.aspx - to find the row details. (max it takes 5 seconds to return result).
due to this scene, I have planed to make asyn call in jquery ajax in asp.net. here is my code...

I would like to know, If there is any possible to make asyn call in jquery ajax in asp.net. I searched in net, I got some points that says we cannot do this in asp.net ref link: [URL] if we can do this in asp.net How to do that?
If I use jQuery AJAX to call a specific ASP.NET page method how to have that method return a value back to the AJAX method that called it?

My situation is I have an existing web application with many existing methods. I would like to be able to use jQuery to execute some of these methods and then update the UI with the results. My mandate is to stay away from ASP.NET AJAX and stick with jQuery. Management is concerned about continued development and support with ASP.NET AJAX from Microsoft. I agree with them.

EDIT: I ended up using YQL to solve the cross domain issue and although it works, YQL is really slow that's adding quite a bit of performance overhead. Can anyone suggest a better solution for cross domain JQuery calls?

View 7 RepliesI am working on a page that has multiple sections and each section looks 'almost the same'. Having said that, I want to build the HTML on the server and render it for each section on the initial page load. On subsequent actions, I would do a ajax call and have the server return json data.
The other option is to 'hardcode' the HTML on the aspx page and have the JS do the necessary customizations for each section. The third option is to use an UpdatePanel and do everything server side.
Based on what should I be choosing what approach to use? What approach would you use for a page like this (think of it as a large page having sub sections on it)
Edit: One section has HTML such as user's name, and a table where users can add dependents. Another section is almost the same except its for a 'contractor' so there's additional HTML such as previous work history, but this one has name (readonly) and a table to add dependents just like the first one. Other sections have more or less the same HTML. A user can delete dependents as well, when that happens, I need to update the database and update the section to reflect one less dependent. I was hoping to make any subsequent actions as ajax calls that interact with the server and the database

I have a web Method in my C# that is called via Jquery ajax method. The web method should return an object back to the Jquery which will be used to populate. I have tried returning a JsonResult object, the actual object and nothing seems to work! I'm not using MVC (Unfortunately). I have an Ajax function called from JQuery that goes to a webservice to return a value. I need a SIMPLE example on how I can do this. I've been going nuts with serializing and every other aspect of this topic. I need to return either an ArrayList with ONE string field or a DataTable of some kind. Either way, I'm populating it into a DropDownList. I'm willing to consider alternatives to this idea. (Background info - I get a value from a textbox and I need to run it through a DB to get an associated value or set of values). I'm being really general so that someone can show a simple example.
