Jquery Validation Plugins In Conjunction With Server Side Fallbacks?
Jan 20, 2010
I like the look of some of the Jquery validation plugins as opposed to the ASP.NET validation controls.
However, one big benefit of the ASP.NET validators is they automatically work on the server side too. Hence saving time and saving validation getting missed when work is maintained.
I am wondering if anyone has come across any tool/plugin to assist in automated mapping of jquery client side validation to a server side fallback.

I'm interested in identifying a means to verify the server-side validation is performing as expected, but need to bypass the client-side validation being done using ASP.NET validation controls. To test this, I've tried using the form Poster add-on to Firefox that allowed me to get/modify the page contents and post it, but the .NET framework interpreted the submission as harmful and threw an application error ("A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client").I've created a WinForm that includes a WebBrowser control and I'm able to manipulate the contents of the web page and invoke the button click, but am interested in seeing how to allow a postback with invalid input values. I don't want to assume the server-side validation works (even though I do check if Page.IsValid on the server on postback).This submits the web form in the WebBrowseer control and the expected client-side validation fires:
extendedWebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById(formButtonName).InvokeMember("click");
This is how I've manipulated some of the page contents (this just prevents submission):
mshtml.IHTMLDocument2 doc = extendedWebBrowser1.Document.DomDocument as mshtml.IHTMLDocument2;
string html = doc.body.innerHTML;
html.Replace("Page_ValidationActive = false", "Page_ValidationActive = true");
doc.body.innerHTML = html.ToString();
extendedWebBrowser1.Document.GetElementById(formButtonName).InvokeMember("click");

I'm using an entity model with metadata annotations. My controller method looks like this...
if (!ModelState.IsValid)
{
return View(model);
}
else
{
UpdateModel(model);
repo.Save();
return RedirectToAction("Index");
}
If I enable client side validation in the view I'll get the error per the Attributes from the metadata class. If I take clientside validation out, error gets thrown from saving to the DB rather than return the view with an Error Summary.
This is the top portion of my view....
<% using (Html.BeginForm())
{%>
<%: Html.ValidationSummary(true) %>
I've tried running without debugging (ctrl + f5) in debug and release mode as well as setting breakpoints and Debugging (f5) but it just seems weird to get Client side validation without server side validation. What am I missing here?

I am using ASP.NET's server-side validation. In the page_load event I'm calling Page.Validate(), and if Page.IsValid is not true I'm then polling the controls to figure out which ones are not valid, and then determining what actions to take.It would be much easier if each control would raise an event as validation fails, allowing me to take action for that particular control. I'm very much a naive programmer when it comes to validation, but is there a way to extend these controls so that a validation error raises an event?

Using MVC 3 RTM and MvcContrib/FluentHtml version 3.0.51.0, I can't get the jQuery client side validation to work. Server side validation works fine, and returns showing the correct validation summary, etc. But the form post always tries to hit the server-side post controller action when it should have stopped on the client side to display the validation error.
I tried replacing the MvcContrib ModelViewPage with the default Mvc ViewPage and it still didn't work.
Here's my code:
Web.config has:
[Code]....
Site.Master page has:
[Code]....
View page inherits from MvcContrib's ModelViewPage:Here's the view page:
[Code]....
Here's the controller post action:

Here's the entity object with the Required field:

Suppose I'm building a StackOverflow clone using webforms ASP.NET and jQuery. The Question page has a question, several answers, and comments under each. Requirements:Users can post new answers and comments, and edit existing ones, without postbacks. No UpdatePanels; the AJAX calls retrieve just the JSON they need, not HTML fragments. The page loads with all existing answers and comments in place (no javascript needs to run to read the page).
What I'm trying to figure out is how to do this without having to maintain two sets of markup (one that's bound on the client using some form of jQuery templating, and one that's bound on the server using traditional WebForms).

I'm using the ASP.NET login control and I'm displaying a jQuery throbber when the submit button is clicked. This works fine, but the throbber is visible if client side validation fails and the button is invisible, so the user cannot re-submit the form. How do I hide the throbber if client side validation fails?

I was trying to prototype some jQuery-based menu into ASP.NET MVC. Just to name two examples here: [URL]Their demo page looks great, but when I integrate their sample code into MVC, the script no longer works in IE and FireFox, but it seems to work just fine under Google Chrome. Can someone kindly enough to point out what I missed? I will be honest here. I am still new to JavaScript. I have placed a copy of my VS2010 solution zip file @ [URL] Here is what I did. In the Site.Master, I have something like
<body>
<div class="page">{truncated...}</div>
<script src=[URL]" charset="utf-8"></script>
<asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="ScriptContent" runat="server" />
</body>
And inside View file, I have the following
<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server">
<div id="original">
{some demo block, copied from javascript demo}
</div>
</asp:Content>
<asp:Content ID="Content3" ContentPlaceHolderID="ScriptContent" runat="server">
<script type="text/javascript" src="<%= Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.columnview.js") %>" />
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#original').columnview();
});
</script>
</asp:Content>
Compiled the code and ran it under IE. Ideally, it should work like the demo in [URL], but in reality, it only displays unordered list in plain view. (If you download the solution file and run it, you should be able to repro this as well). Next, tried with FireFox, not working either, same result as IE. Finally, when I try it under Google Chrome 4.1 (lastest version), and the script displays just fine.

I have 2 update panels where the server-side button (in a jQuery accordion) in the first update panel should update the second update panel.When the button is clicked, jQuery hides the accordion and displays a results div. This all works fine client side to be fair to IE. The server-side onclick event does not fire though in IE. In Firefox it does! The first update panel is displayed below, here the "btnGenerateReport" event should fire server side.
[Code]....
To add confusion ... if I comment out '$accordion.toggle($effect);' lines then the second update panel does get updated.I'm not sure what other information I can give here. I'm stumped as to why this works with Firefox and not IE.

Im using the ms validation blocks to validate user input posted using jquery (ajax). Can someone give me an example of the best way to inform the user that the data does not validate.
Do i simply throw an exception and use the error event of the $.ajax function to inform the user of the issues or is there a better way of handling this?

if I have done the Validation in .aspx file for Server Side control as
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox_Phoneno" runat="server" Width="125px" MaxLength="12"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:RegularExpressionValidator id="RegularExpressionValidator2" runat="server"
ControlToValidate="TextBox_Phoneno"
ErrorMessage="Please enter a default 10 digit contact number (eg:111-111-1111)."
ValidationGroup="next3" ValidationExpression="(((d{3}) ?)|(d{3}-))?d{3}-d{4}">*
</asp:RegularExpressionValidator>
should I have to do Server Side code validation in .aspx.cs file also using classes such as RegexStringValidator. Is it not enough to do validation using the above code. Will it work for Server Side also.

I'm using MVC 3 RTM, client side validation has been disabled.I have a simple model with one integer field.Server side validation does not accept numbers including one or more thousandseparators.
It shows: "The value '1,000' is not valid for QuantityInStock".It does not matter what culture I use. Both "1.000" and "1,000" are never accepted.

I'm using DataAnnotations as well as server-side validation logic.
Is there a way to show DataAnnotation's client-side validation errors in the ValidationSummary, as it shows when returning from server validation?
I know I can use ValidateMessage and ValidateMessageFor next to elements, but the spacial design of the form I'm working with doesn't allow for anything other than highlighting the HTML element, however, I would still like to have a message saying what's wrong.
If I place ValidateFor's alongside ValidationSummary in order to mimic a ValidationSummary during client-side validation, they both appear when returning from a failed server side validation.
