I was thinking to create a timer to display the elapsed time for a long running task in my asp.net application. I was able to create the timer to run using javascript but i have a problem with it, that is, how can i maintain the elapsed time so that even the user navigate away from the page, the timer will still running and when user return to that page again, he/she still can see the timer running. Beside that, another user that access that page from another computer will also see the timer running. How i can achieve this??
When my user sign in I want to show one Label control having Background color 'Green' for next 2 min's. After 2 min's it should become yellow and after 5 min's it should become red. I wrote sample prog for it. But I am not getting th proper output.
Here is the simple scenario that I want to apply; There is a .NET application(console or windows) appA and this code updates a large global variable(+50MB) in the project every 30sec. I have another application appB which is a .NET web application and I want to be able to access the updated value of global variable in appA from appB whenever I want.
I want to be able to run an ASP.NET application when a file is upload via FTP. I understand how to use the filewatcher class to monitor the directory but I don't know where to put the code so it is always running.
Files will be uploaded once per month for each group of users of the system and the next time the user logs on after the upload I would like the application to reflect the new data. I don't want to check for a new upload when each user logs on because the processing could take a log time.
The uploads are automatic from multiple other computer systems and not done by any user.
The Application is hosted (by GoDaddy) so I don't have full control of the server.
Is there any way to have a process running all the time in the background and if so how? The application is written in VB.net.
Bit of a long shot, but is there a way in ASP.NET to dynamically get the website's URL [URL] when there is no HttpContext.Current available.
There is no HttpContext because the code is running in a background thread* (but under the ASP.NET AppDomain). I have a background process that sends emails out every evening, and needs to include the Web address, but I don't want to hard code it because of deployments and testing (it changes from [URL] to[URL] and then to [URL] for the live site).
I have a web application that initializes a third-party com application to perform few calculations. The website is deployed on a windows 2008 server (standard edition).
The problem I have been facing is that when I am logged in to the server (Remote Desktop Connection only as the server is not local), the com application initializes fine. But when I log-off or just close the remote desktop connection, the application doesn't get initialized. I have searched for a solution and found this: [URL]
I created the scheduled task as I didn't know how to create the windows service (the description at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192 is too confusing), and got the application to run when windows starts before even the user logs-in. But in even in this case, the application doesn't work unless the user is logged in and when I log-in, a second instance is created (with exactly the same user (admin)) and the original instance is never used.
I cannot get the application to run without logging off or atleast having to close the remote desktop connection. Is there anything I am doing wrong?
We have an ASP.NET / Silveright web application. The silverlight client displays user specific data in a graphical form - it requests the data from the server: Problem: Getting this data is expensive, due to the underlying database queries that the server has to perform - so the client has to wait... Optimisation Idea: We run the database queries at regular intervals on the server, writing the results to a 'userdata' table in a database 'close' to where the ASP.NET server runs. The process of running the queries and writing the data to the tables is performed by a 'data collection' service, which is separated from the ASP.NET server.
When the client requests data the server retrieves it from a 'userdata' table. This should be nice and quick - we probably have the 'userdata' tables on the same machine as the ASP.NET server. We also have the added benefit that the client sees data even if the underlying database is offline. Of course the data is not live - but all data is potentially old as soon as it reaches the client. So now my Problem: The 'data collection' service needs the user credentials in order to perform these database queries (because each user gets different results for the same query).
How can I store user credentials in a database, in an acceptable 'secure' way? Such that the 'data collection' can impersonate a user to perform the database queries. Our initial scenario is based upon using windows integrated login to the database.
VS2010 ( Vb.net ).I have a masterpage that contains a gridview, giving stats and information on client files sent to us. This gridview is updated by means of a timer control every 10 seconds. In my grid I have an image field, to display either a tick .. if everything is ok or a cross for any problems. When the timer control timer event forces a gridview databind every 10 seconds. When the page first loads, i get the default red Cross in the gridview imagefield, however when the timer loops forces a 'databind' I lose the redCross and it is replaced with the default image control ( as if no url is set ) . Then I get a server 404 error.I am using the OnDataBound event to fire my vb sub. I have commented out evertything just to get a solid starting point but im still getting errors.
I'm searching for an example with an client timer that ticks synchronous with an server timer. Also there must be a button on the client side which can reset the server timer to an default value, and with this it also resets the client timer ofcourse. I tried it myself but it seems that there is some postback delay which makes it impossible for me to make it atleast look like it goes synchronous.
I hope somebody got an example for me, the button part is really important because by pressing that button the delay comes.
I am executing a long-running Oracle stored procedure from .NET. The procedure takes about three hours to run. Ideally, the user should be able to kick off the procedure, close the browser, and come back later to check the results.
The problem is that the connection to the Oracle procedure is lost after exactly an hour. As you would expect, the Oracle procedre runs to completion if it is executed from SQL Plus. Strangely enough, it will also run to completion if I run in debug mode on my local machine (I start two threads, one of which executes the procedure. I set a breakpoint on the second thread).
Here is my connection string:
data source= (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=serverx)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=TestSID)))
my question is how can i use timer in a web site i want to make scrolling texts in labels and i thing this can be done with system.web.ui.timer but all the samples that i read are using the start() method tha is for forms
does anyone know how can i use the timer in a web site?
my simple code is like that
Protected Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick Label6.Text = Label6.Text.Substring(1) & Label6.Text.Substring(0, 1) End Sub
I want to add a countdown timer to my page. What happens is when the user presses the 'Process' button it goes out and performs various tasks and displays results to a listbox. I want to add a 10 - 1 countdown timer so the user knows its actually moving. Once it gets to 1, I need it to start over from 10 until it is finished.
How could I implement loading timer that are automatically appended to the each displayed page in ASP.NET and MVC?
I was thinking to implement it in Global.asax. To log the start of the request and and the end calculate a time and then smartly append it to output stream somehow. It could also be implemented in HTTP handler ...
I would like to know how to implement it in the most elegant way and to do the proper display of the result on the each page.
i want to have a timer in my site that will work for all the site where have i to put this timer?i mean if i put it in one aspx it will work only for this page or not?
I'm having a serious problem with my ASP.NET AJAX application. There is an javascript function in my application needs to be executed after the Timer_Tick event. Here's the code behind:
[Code]....
When I call the javascript function 'UpdateValue' for the first time(at onload page event), it works correctly. But after the Timer_Tick event, it does nothing. This is the HTML code:
[Code]....
What's the problem with the ScriptManager or the Timer_Tick event?
I think I know the answer to this, just want to make sure.
Question: there's no way to turn off a timer in ASP.NET on the client side (easily—I've seen the undocumented hacks on the net). Therefore, you have to set up you own logic client side while the timer is running server side, correct?
I went through these examples and understand them:
So, the pseudocode for a trigger done programically—so you do something when somebody clicks a button Button1 would be-- after you set up a ScriptManager, UpdatePanel and suitable ASync PostBack triggers in XAML (as per the above links) so that the Ticks event is triggered in the UpdatePanel:
public partial class MyWebForm : System.Web.UI.Page
{ bool myTriggeringBoolean; //used to turn off and on code in the Timer's Tick event [code]....
I have a timer running in my web application. Each time the application starts up, the timer is created. The issue is that the app pool ends after an idle period which also ends the timer. The next request causes the app pool to start back up and a new timer is created.
I want to create a page with a stopwatch. I have a start button and I have a starttime in my model. Now I want to display the running timer in my view and it should reflect the starttime from my model. How do I update the timer with my starttime from my view right after I have pressed the startbutton, and how do I get it to update each second? Do I need to use jQuery for the update?
