Configuration :: Running Com / Application In Background Without User Logged In?
Aug 3, 2010
I have a web application that initializes a third-party com application to perform few calculations. The website is deployed on a windows 2008 server (standard edition).
The problem I have been facing is that when I am logged in to the server (Remote Desktop Connection only as the server is not local), the com application initializes fine. But when I log-off or just close the remote desktop connection, the application doesn't get initialized. I have searched for a solution and found this:
[URL]
I created the scheduled task as I didn't know how to create the windows service (the description at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192 is too confusing), and got the application to run when windows starts before even the user logs-in. But in even in this case, the application doesn't work unless the user is logged in and when I log-in, a second instance is created (with exactly the same user (admin)) and the original instance is never used.
I cannot get the application to run without logging off or atleast having to close the remote desktop connection. Is there anything I am doing wrong?
We are using membership provider for LDAP authentication. It is working as it should.
But what all configuration settings I have to do so that all the future requests to this application run under the security context of the Logged in user account not through the some default user set in IIS.
We need to have this working because all the permissions on the database are based on the logged in user.
We are using form authentication for LDAP authentication. And having impersonation = true in web.config.
We have an ASP.NET / Silveright web application. The silverlight client displays user specific data in a graphical form - it requests the data from the server: Problem: Getting this data is expensive, due to the underlying database queries that the server has to perform - so the client has to wait... Optimisation Idea: We run the database queries at regular intervals on the server, writing the results to a 'userdata' table in a database 'close' to where the ASP.NET server runs. The process of running the queries and writing the data to the tables is performed by a 'data collection' service, which is separated from the ASP.NET server.
When the client requests data the server retrieves it from a 'userdata' table. This should be nice and quick - we probably have the 'userdata' tables on the same machine as the ASP.NET server. We also have the added benefit that the client sees data even if the underlying database is offline. Of course the data is not live - but all data is potentially old as soon as it reaches the client. So now my Problem: The 'data collection' service needs the user credentials in order to perform these database queries (because each user gets different results for the same query).
How can I store user credentials in a database, in an acceptable 'secure' way? Such that the 'data collection' can impersonate a user to perform the database queries. Our initial scenario is based upon using windows integrated login to the database.
I've an application only used in my site, and I'm interested to put in production from a global scope and the same instance to all the sites.
The fastest solution I've in mind is to use the current database for each different site, as copy from current system and add/clean a new one when a new site will start using it.
For this purpose I though in a front database where to check the logged in user site and then, depending user configuration, access his own site database.
I'm using now a connection string called ConnectionString1 in all the controls/code-behind database access. Then, my trouble is how to make it configurable to point to a certain database with the same connection string name but different connection string value depending on the user who has logged in, in order to not modify the current code I did. The only work I must do is change LogIn page to select appropiate database to access.
i am trying to upload my applicaiton on IIS5.1 version.my application uses SQL server 2005 and Membership provider. everytime i create an virtual directory and run it ,it always says that login failed for user IUSR_TPN0150 .cannot open database emp.

We are developing for a customer a series of .NET intranet applications currentlydeveloped in ASP. However we would like to avoid the users the annoyance of having of login twice when they pass from one .NET application to an ASP one, Is there any way to export the session data from one application to the other?
I have an application which was running totally fine some days earlier. The problem began since the day i have taken SVN update from server. Its saying "error 404, file not exists", it just removes application name from url & only leaves "http://localhost/1980". Whatever changes i try in web.config it has no effect. It just stick to this error. I copied my previous web.config also but no luck.I tried to comment all lines which are redirecting user to any other page in case of error also. Its happening in my colleagues copy also.
FYI, all other .net applications on my system are still running smoothly. Only this application is not running. Checked the log & it says: 2010-05-15 05:50:12 192.168.1.2 3692 192.168.1.53 2869 HTTP/1.1 NOTIFY /notify 400 - Hostname -
I have a website that appears to be "losing" the code behind bin/dll file support while the application is running. I have added an OnError event to the application and am logging it to the event viewer. At first I was getting problems with HTML and other bad input into text boxes. I have used validation and other methods to correct all of this. Now my issue is that the ASPX pages are still served, however I have custom code in the "onLoad" event and it is not being executed. This is in the "onLoad" for the master page so it is affecting the entire site. So far my fix has been to restart the website within IIS. This corrects the problem for anywhere to 24-48 hours and then it occurs again. Last night when this happened I did not recieve any new information in the event viewer log.
We are trying to compress JS and CSS files in our application which is Running IIS 7.5. Both JS and CSS files are getting compressed But application is not able to load these compressed .JS and .CSS files it is still referring to old un compressed files.
Just for your info Compress JS and CSS Files are at C:inetpub empIIS Temporary Compressed FilesDefaultAppPool$^_gzip_C^.
Here are the setting which i have in AppHost.config file
I am reaching the stage where my first web application is nearing completion and I want to look at running the aspx web application. The web application is going to be run on an internal server, so that only users of the network can access the web page.I am not sure of how I get my project from my pc onto the server and go about making so that I can open it in my browser,
while running my aspx pages on local iis 5.1 of my system, it doesnot shows the images and also when i tried to login with the same credentials that i was using with visual studio2005 it always give me error of wrong credentials
i got the below error while running an application on IIS server. Error 167 It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS. E:iaeciaecWeb.config 48 .
i want to generate the new sessionid in the same httpcontext once the user is successfully authenticated.so, how can i do that ? ( please dont ask why do you want it, i got such kind of requirement).
I've got an ASP 4.0 website running on IIS 7.0 . Part of the web site creates an Excel document using C#, due to company policy I'm stuck with Excel 2003. I've noticed that when I deploy the site and use the part that creates the Excel file, its running Excel application object with the login of the user accessing the site. This causes problems with access rights to the Server.
How do I set the server up to run the Excel application using a fixed account? I've got the Application pool running under one, and I thought that would solve the problem, but it doesn't seem to.
I m facing one problem which is related to Bitmap Image Actually My image is saved properly without iis server but when i run application on iis server then its give Exception "A generic error occurred in GDI+." I m using this code-
Byte[] bytes = (Byte[])ds.Tables[0].Rows[r][1]; MemoryStream memStream = new MemoryStream(); memStream.Write(bytes, 0, bytes.Length); System.Drawing.Bitmap origBMP = new System.Drawing.Bitmap(memStream); System.Drawing.Bitmap newBMP = new System.Drawing.Bitmap(origBMP, 100, 150); System.Drawing.Graphics objGra = System.Drawing.Graphics.FromImage(newBMP); objGra.SmoothingMode = System.Drawing.Drawing2D.SmoothingMode.AntiAlias; objGra.InterpolationMode = System.Drawing.Drawing2D.InterpolationMode.HighQualityBicubic; origBMP.Dispose(); newBMP.Save(Server.MapPath("ImageUpload\" + r + ".Jpeg"), System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg); //exception throw "A generic error occurred in GDI+." newBMP.Dispose(); objGra.Dispose();
we are migrating existing windows form application to asp.net(3.5) intranet portal, there is a requirement whereby database connection should be made by the logged in windows user. Is it possible to achieve this functionality?
I have a really weird problem that I've been investigating for at least one week now. I deliver a website hosting both ASP classic and .NET 3.5 content in IIS6 on a Windows 2003 server environment with MySQL db backend. The solution has been installed on several servers (some hosted in WMWare) with no problems. On one specific server, also hosted in WMWare, the user experience great performance issues on the website. The problems are most seen when using database resources and is not limited to either .net or asp classic, but I am still not sure that the problem is only related to database calls.
Following components are involved:
IIS6 .NET FW 3.5 MyODBC 3.51 / 5.1 MySQL 4.x
Code executed on the server using all resources above runs smoothly when the IIS is not involved. The website shows times up to 2 minutes to execute code that takes 2 seconds outside the IIS. The exact same code is executed. Using profiling tools, I've seen that the great loss comes within calls to unmanaged code, for example when System.Data.ODBC namespace to calls into myodbc.dll.
The tricky part is: If at least one console user is logged in to the server, the performace problems are not seen anymore. When the user logs out, the problem appears again.I have tried to reinstall all components above, tried different versions of MyODBC, tried different website authentication methods, tried to run website under administrator privilegies, installed various MS KB's with no success.
I was thinking to create a timer to display the elapsed time for a long running task in my asp.net application. I was able to create the timer to run using javascript but i have a problem with it, that is, how can i maintain the elapsed time so that even the user navigate away from the page, the timer will still running and when user return to that page again, he/she still can see the timer running. Beside that, another user that access that page from another computer will also see the timer running. How i can achieve this??
Here is the simple scenario that I want to apply; There is a .NET application(console or windows) appA and this code updates a large global variable(+50MB) in the project every 30sec. I have another application appB which is a .NET web application and I want to be able to access the updated value of global variable in appA from appB whenever I want.
1.) What is the name of the OS process in which App Domain resides.
2.)if suppose There are Three Windows application hosted on a same envoirment and two instance is working for each application at a Time, means now total instance are six .what will happen among the below written cases :
a.) There will be six different app domain in a single OS process
b.) There will three app domain(one for each application) in a single OS process and some Parallel thread will be executed in each app domain for another instance.
c.) There will be Three OS process corresponding to each application.
3.) If eveything will remain same except there are three web application in place of windows in point 2, will there be any change in functioning.
I host a website that has recently been upgraded from .NET Framework 2.0 to .NET Framework 4.0. Within the website, I have an instance of BlogEngine which still requires .NET Framework 2.0. Each website is in it's own application pool. My issue is that when I browse to the blog portion of my website, I receive a 500.19 error with the following information...
The configuration section 'system.web.extensions' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration The web.conf file that is listed in the error message is the config file that belongs to my root website which is running .NET Framework 4.0. How do I get the two websites to run together in the same website using different versions of the .NET Framework?
I want to be able to run an ASP.NET application when a file is upload via FTP. I understand how to use the filewatcher class to monitor the directory but I don't know where to put the code so it is always running.
Files will be uploaded once per month for each group of users of the system and the next time the user logs on after the upload I would like the application to reflect the new data. I don't want to check for a new upload when each user logs on because the processing could take a log time.
The uploads are automatic from multiple other computer systems and not done by any user.
The Application is hosted (by GoDaddy) so I don't have full control of the server.
Is there any way to have a process running all the time in the background and if so how? The application is written in VB.net.
Bit of a long shot, but is there a way in ASP.NET to dynamically get the website's URL [URL] when there is no HttpContext.Current available.
There is no HttpContext because the code is running in a background thread* (but under the ASP.NET AppDomain). I have a background process that sends emails out every evening, and needs to include the Web address, but I don't want to hard code it because of deployments and testing (it changes from [URL] to[URL] and then to [URL] for the live site).
