LinkButton Inside UpdatePanel Disappears After Partial Page Postback?
Mar 24, 2010
I have a linkbutton inside a updatepanel and when the update panel does a partial page rendering, the linkbutton disappears.
<asp:UpdatePanel ID="up" runat="server" ChildrenAsTriggers="true" UpdateMode="Conditional">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="drp" runat="server" AutoPostBack="true" CausesValidation="true">
<asp:ListItem Text="" Value="" />
<asp:ListItem Text="a" Value="a" />
<asp:ListItem Text="b" Value="b" />
<asp:ListItem Text="c" Value="c" />
</asp:DropDownList>
<asp:LinkButton ID="link" Text="abc" runat="server" />
</ContentTemplate>
I think that is because the link button is rendered using a script and that script is not run after the post back.

I have a script inside an updatepanel. This script needs to be inside the updatepanel as it must be located in that spot.
Now when we click the "LinkButton" to update the updatepanel, the script will dissapear.
It seems that the script only is initiazed on the first Page_Load and Refresh of the page.
How can we keep it when pressing the "LinkButton"?
Complete code is below:

I have a simple form (textbox, submit button) which is wrapped in an update panel.
[Code]....
I type some text in the textbox, click submit, then the server creates a database record and returns an object, which has properties like ID, Name, URL, Blah, etc. These are the values that the script requires.
So if i were to call a web service from the client-code, in order to get the values that were just created, i would need to do some hacks (get last record modified that has the value of the textbox). Not ideal, and neither is two AJAX calls for one form post. (update panel postback, then web service call).

I've coded myself into a state of confusion. I have a form with a postal code TextBox and a country DropDownList both inside an UpdatePanel. When the selected country is changed, the DropDownList auto posts back and sets the regular expression used for validating the postal code. The country DropDownList also has a RequiredFieldValidator. The first item in my DropDownList is empty (Value = Text = String.Empty) and when I select this item, I momentarily see the RequiredFieldValidator appear and then disappear. It seems that the client side script is displaying the error message, but then after my partial postback it disappears. I can see in the country DropDownList's SelectedIndexChanged event handler that the RequiredFieldValidator has IsValid = false, so why doesn't the error message stay visible?

I have a link button:
<asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButtonPrint" runat="server" OnClick="OnPrint_Click">
<img src="img/print-icon.png" alt="" />
<asp:Literal runat="server" Text="<%$ Resources:PrintPage %>" />
</asp:LinkButton>
In code behind I add an onclick handler in Page_Load like this:
LinkButtonPrint.Attributes["onclick"] = "StartLoadTracking(this, '" + GetLocalResourceObject("Loading") + "')";
The rendered HTML is like this:
<a href="javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$LinkButtonPrint','')"
id="ctl00_LinkButtonPrint" onclick="StartLoadTracking(this, 'Loading...');">
<img alt="" src="img/print-icon.png">Print page
</a>
If I click this button it is working OK (it will respond with a PFD file so no HTML is sent back to the browser), but if I click another button on the page (which makes a full postback) the LinkButtonPrint will not have the inner content, it will be rendered like this:
<a href="javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$LinkButtonPrint','')"
id="ctl00_LinkButtonPrint" onclick="StartLoadTracking(this, 'Loading...');"></a>
If I remove the LinkButtonPrint.Attributes["onclick"] = ... line from Page_Load everything works fine (except my js function is not called, but that is normal).
What am I missing here?
EDIT
This is duplicate of asp.net Link button image not visible after postback.

I am having problems selecting the text within a TextBox in an UpdatePanel in IE 8. Consider a very simple page that contains a single UpdatePanel. Within that UpdatePanel there are two Web controls:
A DropDownList with three statically-defined list items, whose AutoPostBack property is set to True, and
A TextBox Web control
The DropDownList has a server-side event handler for its SelectedIndexChanged event, and in that event handler there's two lines of code:

I've implemented a Wizard in which most steps are UserControls. One of these steps contains a DropDownList and a RadioButtonList. Depending on the item selected in the DropDownList, some items in the adioButtonList are disabled or enabled via a callback. This works fine.
Then I added a ToolkitScriptManager to the page (EnablePartialRendering="true") and wrapped the controls in this particular step in an UpdatePanel's ContentTemplate. Running inside of VS2008, the appropriate radio buttons are disabled or enabled as expected in response to changes in the DropDownList without a full page refresh. It feels much more response and looks slick.
Then I deploy to the test server and suddenly the partial-page refresh is gone, the whole page is redrawing as though the script manager and UpdatePanel hadn't been added.
I've tried several variations on this, always with the same result. For instance - I moved the DropDownList outside of the updatePanel and added an AsyncPostbackTrigger for the DropDown's SelectedIndexChange event. No change - works in VS2008 but not on the server. - I added ChildrenAsTriggers="false" UpdateMode="Conditional" to the UpdatePanel, both with the DropDown inside the UpdatePanel and outside the UpdatePanel. No change - works in VS2008 but not on the server.

Using ASP.NET 3.5 / C#. Have a page with a UpdatePanel, and a UserControl inside the UpdatePanel. When calling ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, typeof(UpdatePanel), Guid.NewGuid().ToString(), script, false); the script appears to fire (have tried it with a JS alert), but the resulting script also disappears immediately afterword. I am trying to create a JS function via the script, and it is not in the Page Source after the Page is rendered. i have tried many variationsRegisterClientScriptBlock with no luck.

I have a page with an UpdatePanel with a UserControl in it. That UserControl contains a GridView with a nested UserControl that seems to disappear when the parent UserControl is rebound. I cannot for the life of me figure out why the child UserControl disappears. The code works beautifully on the first load, but any partial postback causes the "Pick" UserControl to disappear.

i got a strange problem. my project was ok before implimenting ajax. i have just implimented ajax in one page only with Tabcontainer and updatepanels only nothing else. almost all controls are devided into different Tabs with respective update panels.
mostly it is working ok. but the problem is :
1. in some controls i am not able to write anything even the control is "Enabled=True" and focus is on the same control after partial postback.
2. and as soon as i press Tab control goes to Address bar.
3. some time tab key is also not working.
here some code :
[Code]....
Here the Logic :
as soon as i type inception date; expirydate is automatically calculated and focus should come to sumassured. after this it should allowed to enter sumassured amount, which is not allowing to write.
As soon as i change tab and come back to original tab then i can write values normaly.

I've created a dynamic button from another control outside of the update Panel. The button is given an ID and such. When the button is click, a postback occurs and I've re-created this button during Page_Init, Page_PreLoad, and Page_Onload and NONE of them is preserving the value.
The only way for me to find the control was to look at the Page.request.form's allkeys and compare the string with a any text string that contains: Button. Because I ID'd teh button as: ButtonRow_0Col0. But the actual ID is null. However, when traversing through page.request.form, the allkeys shows that ID with no problem.
So how come the actual ID is lost after a partial postback yet, the page.request.form's allkeys can pull out its allkey's value??

So this might be a fairly specific issue but I figured I'd post it since I spent hours struggling with it before I was able to determine the cause.
<asp:GridView ID="gvAttachments" DataKeyNames="UploadedID" AutoGenerateColumns="false" OnSelectedIndexChanged="gvAttachments_SelectedIndexChanged" runat="server">
<EmptyDataTemplate>There are no attachments associated to this email template.</EmptyDataTemplate>
<Columns>
<asp:TemplateField ItemStyle-Width="100%">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton CommandName="Select" runat="server"><img src="/images/icons/trashcan.png" style="border: none;" /></asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>
In the ItemTemplate of the TemplateField of the GridView I have a LinkButton with an image inside of it. Normally I do this when I have an image with some text next to it but this time, for whatever reason, I just have the image. This causes the UpdatePanel to always do a full postback.

I have a LinkButton inside an UpdatePanel that I do not want the client to click more than once before the UpdatePanel refreshes its contents. Right now the link button initiates a partial postback for every client side click until the update panel has time to refresh. This particular link fires off a very expensive process which I'd rather not have run unnecessarily. Is there a .NET standard way of doing this? Whats a good solution for this?

So, I have a MasterPage, in which I have an ImageButton and an UpdatePanel. Inside the UpdatePanel I have a LinkButton.
[Code]....
As you can see, both components are asociated to the same OnClick event, which should open said PDF document in a new window using javascript (Code Behind of the MasterPage):
[Code]....
I build the path using the toolTip of the component that has been clicked,which has the name of the file that should load in the
new window.
When I run the application, and click the ImageButton, the new window opens and the file loads correctly. However, when I click the LinkButton, nothing happens (it should do exactly the same as the ImageButton).
If I set a breakpoint, and debug, when I click the LinkButton, it goes to the LnkRelease1 event (as it should), everything looks fine, but it doesnt open the new window, It doesn't execute the javascript window.open.
