Localization :: Global Resources Not Being Updated When Moved To Production Web Server

Jan 28, 2011

I have a masterPage that has several labels populated by a Global Resource file. For some reason every time I add a entry to the Spanish global resource file and precompile my website and move out the App-GlobalResources.compiled and App_GlobalResources.dll. The changes/Updates do not seem to be reflected on the Prod Web Server. Am I missing a file I need to move to the server? the update is working fine when I run the site locally.

Accessing The WebSite Administration Tool Once Moved To A Production Server?

Jan 6, 2010

I'm very new to ASP.Net, but I've put together a reasonable site. I have used the user account and rolls which come with VS.

This all works fine for me, but I want to be able to change user's rolls and folder security when the site is live.

Is there any way of accessing the ASP.Net Web Site Administration Tool once the site has been moved to a production server?

If not is there any easy way to accomplish this other than write pages to do this yourself?

I've setup an ASP.NET MVC 2 site several times on our test system on IIS 6. I'm fine with having to use the .aspx extension on controllers. The Global.asax.cs file looks like this:

routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.html/{*pathInfo}");

Localization :: Update Xxx.resources File On Server - Error Message?

Jul 15, 2010

I'm making changes to some xxx.resources files on our web server, everytime I try and copy the new file out to the server I keep getting the error:

'the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.'

I get this for about 20 minutes or so after I check the web site. Is there another way to update/copy the xxx.resources file on the web server without waiting 20 minutes or so to do so?

Localization :: Culture Settings Work On Machine - Don't Work When Moved To Server?

I am working on a multi-language web site. It is half English and half Portuguese. I have created forms that have portuguese values in it. These forms work perfectly on my desktop. I'm using Cassini as the development server. When I move them over to IIS, they are not loading properly. The text comes up all weird looking. I am declaring the culture in the page attribute: Culture="pt-BR"

C# - Why Should Use Global Resources

Jan 14, 2010

in some projects (web application projects) I'm using global resource files. (Stored in the App_GlobalResources folder)pro:Really easy to use: e.g. in the markupProperty="<%$ Resources:FILENAME, KEY %>"con: As far as I know, I can't change the content of the resources on the fly. So if a customer is calling and tells me to change a string in the french implementation, I need to deploy a new binary. While using SessionMode="InProc" that might lead to undesired behaviour, like session loss etc.

.net Global Resources Options?

Jan 6, 2010

global resources in my asp.net mvc web application. I have some resources in separate project(not a web app project). Those resources have following settings: Build action: Embedded Resource, Copy To Output Directory: Do not copy, Custom Tool: ResXFileCodeGenerator. When I change an existing value in resource file, build solution in release mode and upload neccesary dll files back to server, the previous values in resources are still shown. However, when I add a new key into resource file, the value of this key is shown properly.

Localization :: Local Resources Not Working In MVC 3?

Feb 14, 2011

I'm writing a sample project that supports multilanguage. I'm using Resource files for that. I want to use Local Resources.

Here is what I've done.

1. Add 'App_LocalResources' folder in View/Home/ directory.

2. Add 'Index.resx' for the default language and 'Index.en.resx' for my other language.

3. I've made the Access Modifier as 'Public' and Custom Tool from properties to 'PublicResXFileCodeGenerator' and gave identical Custom Tool Namespace to both of that files ('Example')

4. I put an example 'Title' string in both my resource files and accessed it from my 'Index.cshtml' view in Views/Home directory like this:

[Code]....

When I run the application the default language Title from the Index.resx displays like charm, but when I change the language it can't seem to find the other file 'Index.en.resx' and the Title doesn't change.

For the record I tried the same thing with Global Resources, i.e. Create 2 global resource files and get the title of my Index page from them and it's working, i.e. the language changes when I change the cultures.

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Premium, version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel, .Net Framework v 4.0.30319 RTMRel and MVC 3

Localization Works On Localhost But Not In Production Environment

Jan 20, 2011

I have this website with english and portuguese support. In localhost everything works fine and the content is translated based on the querystring parameter named "lang". This chunk of code makes the trick in every page:

protected override void InitializeCulture() {
SetCulture(); } private void SetCulture() {
var logger = Util.GetLogger();
string lang = Request.QueryString["lang"];
if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(lang)) { lang = "pt-br"; }
string sessionLang = (string)Session["lang"];
if (sessionLang != lang) { Session["lang"] = lang;
} logger.Log(string.Format("Culture {0} found",lang));
UICulture = lang; Culture = lang;
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture(lang);
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo(lang);
logger.Log(string.Format("Cultura {0} set", lang));
base.InitializeCulture(); }

Thanks to the logger I can say for sure that this method is called in both cases (production and localhost). I have two resources files in App_GlobalResources folder:
-WebSitemapGlobal.en-us.resx;
-WebSitemapGlobal.resx;

Configuration :: Global.asax Email Not Working In Test Or Production But Works On Hosted Site

Apr 12, 2010

I have a hosted site and just added some additional error notification to my global.asax file and works like a charm. I decided to add the same logic to our test server and it doesnt work. The server.transfer never happens and the email never gets updated. Now i know the email works on the test and production server since we have other pages that use the same SMTP server name and setup as i have in the global file. Below is my code as it is in the file now. I setup a test page to cause an error and the page displays the detailed error which we dont want. But i would like to be notified if this happens. What am i missing? I can only assume that its a IIS confige issue, since the exact same code works on a hosted site, but not at work on our test or production servers. Here is the code i have in the global.asax

I have a very simple bilingual site with a link at the bottom that will allow users to switch between the two languages (english/french). the the web.config I have the following line:

<globalization culture="auto" uiCulture="auto" />

This allows for whatever the users browser culture is to be the default lanauge but I'd still like the ablility for them to click a bottom button to toggle. whats the best what to go about doing this?
