Localization :: How To Use "System.Resources.ResourceManager" In A Website Mode Project
Feb 3, 2010
I am working with a website project here that was created by a 3rd party and trying to implement some localization functionality.
Since there is already a LocalizationModule existing but we do not want to use that kind, I though about using ResourceManager to Translate parts of the site.
Basically the project tree is something like this :
I am trying here to do a manual translation for the application I am working with. (There is already a working LocalizationModule but it's working dodgy, so I can't use <asp:Localize /> tags.
Normally with ResourceManager you are supposed to be using it as Namespace.Folder.Resourcename (in an application). Currently I am translating an existing asp.net "website" (not web application so no namespace here....).
The resources are located into a folder name "Locales/resources" which contains "fr-ca.resx" and "en-us.resx".
So I used a code with something like this :
[Code]....
I even tried to load the resource with Locales.fr-ca or only fr-ca nothing quite work here.
I was just wondering guys, how did you manage to update website's content with resx(resources) files.Did you manage user's database with connection, accessing to this page. I need to make a poll as well, should I use sharepoint or c# with a database?
When they initialize the resource manager they create a new ResourceSets hashtable which they use to store all the culture-specific resource sets. Then they override ResouceSets passing in the culture in order to get a resource set for a specific culture. OK so far.
Problem is with creating the hash table in the Initialize method; the compiler complains that ResourceSets is obsolete (new with 4.0) and I am instructed to call InternalGetResourceSet() instead.
I am trying to add a global resource folder, and added a Language.resx file. Then, I added a new seperate resource file called, Language.zn-ch.resx file. But when I try compiling, it complains:The namespace 'Resources' already contains a definition for 'LanguageResource'
I have two Resources files under App_GlobalResourcesMyApp.resxMyApp.sv.resxfor those who don't know: All languages will fallback to MyApp.resx except the Swedish UICulture will use the MyApp.sv.resxand I have a simple page that shows 3 <asp:Label> in witch the Text property is called differently like:
I'm writing a sample project that supports multilanguage. I'm using Resource files for that. I want to use Local Resources.
Here is what I've done.
1. Add 'App_LocalResources' folder in View/Home/ directory.
2. Add 'Index.resx' for the default language and 'Index.en.resx' for my other language.
3. I've made the Access Modifier as 'Public' and Custom Tool from properties to 'PublicResXFileCodeGenerator' and gave identical Custom Tool Namespace to both of that files ('Example')
4. I put an example 'Title' string in both my resource files and accessed it from my 'Index.cshtml' view in Views/Home directory like this:
[Code]....
When I run the application the default language Title from the Index.resx displays like charm, but when I change the language it can't seem to find the other file 'Index.en.resx' and the Title doesn't change.
For the record I tried the same thing with Global Resources, i.e. Create 2 global resource files and get the title of my Index page from them and it's working, i.e. the language changes when I change the cultures.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Premium, version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel, .Net Framework v 4.0.30319 RTMRel and MVC 3
I have made resources files for different lauguages, e.g. Resources.Fr.resx, Resources.US.resx...
How to coding to make which resources files for default resources files so that when in the coding as below can be achieved with minimal coding change?
Actually we need to generate multi-language resource files based on our default 'English' langauge resource file. The idea is if we can input this 'English' language resource file in that tool and it can generate another resource file for us in the required langauge.
i have a very strange error.i get parser error Parser Error Message: The resource object with key 'TopnavHome' was not found.this is the code: [Code]....
I have a masterPage that has several labels populated by a Global Resource file. For some reason every time I add a entry to the Spanish global resource file and precompile my website and move out the App-GlobalResources.compiled and App_GlobalResources.dll. The changes/Updates do not seem to be reflected on the Prod Web Server. Am I missing a file I need to move to the server? the update is working fine when I run the site locally.
I'm making changes to some xxx.resources files on our web server, everytime I try and copy the new file out to the server I keep getting the error:
'the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.'
I get this for about 20 minutes or so after I check the web site. Is there another way to update/copy the xxx.resources file on the web server without waiting 20 minutes or so to do so?
I was assigned a bug saying that some page elements don't work on IE8 Quirks mode at all, and I need to fix them. The point is that I believe our pages will always be rendered in Standard mode, because we specify DOCTYPE at the beginning of every page (via master page). I'd think it must be some debugging tools changed that during testing.I managed to convice QA to close it as by design, after a brief explanation to her. Now I start to think the question that whether we should have our page work on both Standard and Quirks mode.
when generating local resources by using ( "Tools"->"Generate Local Resource" ) i noticed that some controls disappear in run time.
is good to take advantage of Visual Studio to automatically generate it? or is better to create resource files and add meta:resourcekey="..." to my page manually??
I use ResolveClientUrl to include css files in my page. When launched through web-server everything is OK, but in design mode css styles are not applied to the page. I use VS 2010 beta 2.
I work in a small developing team with 3 developers and none of us are really 'uber elite programmers' but we get by pretty well for our company. One thing that has been constantly recurring is we keep using the same resources in multiple projects. One example being the fckeditor control, however it stinks to constantly add this folder to every project (I've got the control set-up in my toolbox, but it won't be able to find the code unless you have the folder in there). This also applies with constantly recurring master pages and controls. Now we have made some steps for improving this, including making a 'back end' project where we put our shared functions, and made a CDN for images and scripts. But I still run into issues. For instance all developers must make sure they have the latest version of the back end project checked out, and built. Also when you add a reference to that .dll, the paths have to be the same between developers, otherwise it breaks the reference.
Now I just found out you can add a project reference, which will make the back end project build anytime I build the front-end project, but again you still have to make sure you have the latest version checked out. But I wonder what else I could do? Things I find annoying are making sure the relative locations of the back end project to the front end project has to be the same, and making sure they have the latest version of the back end checked out. Are there better ways to do this? Also the back-end project is a class library, but how can I share resources like a user control? I tried putting a user control in a normal project, and then adding that project as a reference, but it doesn't give you access to the control in the file list like I am used to for dragging into a page.
I'm pretty sure this is something super easy, but how do i access a resource that is in a separate project using the expression syntax? I thought it would be like so:
I have an ASP.Net website, "MyApp", which contains the following resources files:
WebResources.resx WebResources.es.resx
The website references a library project, "MyLib" from which I want to access those resources files. Here is the code I'm attempting:
var rm = new ResourceManager("MyApp", Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); subject = rm.GetString("HelloMessage"); //always string.empty
The problem is that the executing assembly is always "MyLib" instead of "MyApp". Is it possible to access the resource files embedded in the website project from a library project?
there is problem of low disc space or FAT partitioning but
I don't what kind of disc space is used in smpt server for the sending mail and what is this
FAT partitining is used in this and how to configure this , all together what is the exact solution of the code error no. 4.3.1 Insufficient system resources for sending mail .
I have a pesky problem: if I change the UI culture dynamically and then I reload a page, the Resources.resx file selected was changed into the page but not into the Update Panel.
I have a class project with only localized .resx file, means AxRes.de.resx. An MVC project with a resource folder an in the public AxRes.resx neutral (en) resource what can be reached by project-name.resource.AxRes.label-name. If now the satelite dll is copied to inde the german label shoud appear, but it doesn't. What must be done when referencing satelite assemblies? Can all resources be in the class project, how to link these to my MVC project?
I have a ASP.NET project which relies upon the FreeImage .NET wrapper. This is loaded using a reference to a external directory. The wrapper relies upon the FreeImage.dll being present to work (clearly). How do I get Visual Studio to include a reference to the FreeImage dll. It's not a .NET assembly, i think it was built in something else (so I can't add it as a reference).
I don't really want to have a copy for this project as these files reside in a different SVN repository
