Localization :: Localize Website / Want To Create App_LocalResources Folder
Jul 4, 2010
I have almost 10 web pages on my corporate website, built on 3.5 framework.
in order to localize my website do i need to create App_LocalResources folder?
Also do i need to move all my 10 webpages into the above folder or can i keep then outside too?
I found two resource files related to english and spanish languages on msdn web, do i need to add then to the App_LocalResources folder?

I'm just getting started using Resharper with VS-2008, and one of the 'errors' it gave me was to localize a Label's text in the code-behind. I've worked with Localization before to Localize a website from english into french, but I don't understand what the benefit is to localizing beside that usage.

I've read the MSDN page describing the Localize control and read about the difference between designers in the following link:http://my.safaribooksonline.com/0321341384/app01lev2sec53 Still, I can't find any visual difference between the Localize and Literal control in the designer view of VS 2010.I've tried using explicit and implicit expressions in an aspx and the designer looks the same for both controls - shows the neutral culture resource.I've looked at the LocalizeDesigner code in reflector and the only thing the designer seems to localize is the HTML format of the outputed span control, and that seems irellevant to the designer. Can anyone attach a short example that demonstrate when the two controls behave differently?

i am creating a website in 4 languages. all the labels and buttons should chage as per the users choice. the language details should not be hard coded and it has to come from the databse for each language. Instead of doing it manually(depends upon the language selection fetch the data from the databse and show the labels etc) do we have any inbuild Techno ledge to achieve this in a faster way.

I want to create a folder to store some web controls, so the site structure doesn't have a zillion files in the root.
Except that if I create an ordinary folder, that folder is also visible on the web site. MSDN said you cannot put it in App_Code, and it doesn't really make sense to put it in other special folder like App_Data or App_Theme.

Is there any way to use a common RESX file for a few of my ASPX pages? The default naming convention seems to be NameOfWebPage.aspx.resx so it seems like there is a 1 to 1 mapping...
However it would be REALLY convienient if i could make a few of my ASPX pages all use the same RESX page, because they are mostly using the same strings and its stupid to have a separate RESX for each page.
I know about GetGlobalResourceObject() but my application is very big and it doesnt make sense to make the strings global when they are really only needed for these few pages.

I want to add folders to keep things organized in App_LocalResources. Because when adding a lot of resorce files for different languages in this folder, files are getting messy. I added folders like
Default.aspx (Folder)
Default.aspx.en.resx
Default.aspx.sp.resx
Contact.aspx (Folder)
Contact.aspx.en.resx
Contact.aspx.en.resx
Edit :
FYI : Actually what I did is working. I mean the way I mentioned above is the correct way. The reason why it wasn't working is something else so you can define your folders and the resource files above.

My web-application project (not "web-site" project) is translated to 15 different languages using the ASP.NET's built-in resource engine - which means I have tons of *.aspx.resx files in the "App_LocalResources" folder. All these resources are precompiled by ASP.NET when I first launch the application and it takes a lot of time. I mean A LOT. 5-10 minutes. I have to wait 5-10 minutes every time I make some tiny change to my code, just to see how it works. Is there any way to pre-compile these resource in Visual Studio? Changing the "Build Action" for all these resx-files to "Embedded resource" does not work :( (or I'm doing it wrong?
