MVC :: Action Method Taking Model Object?
Nov 25, 2010
I've an action method like the below:
[HTTPPost]
public void Edit(Movie movie)
{
}
Movie has fields Id, Name. View is displaying name only in textbox. When button is clicked, the above action method's movie is populates with the updated name value but Id is 0, actually that record's id is 4. Thatswhy my updating of record is not working. Why MVC is putting 0 into id?

I am using ASP.NET MVC 1. I want to pass an int value to from an action to view. I can use 2 ways.
Use ViewData dictionary.
Define a class to contain the int value.
Other these two, Is there a way to pass the int value to view so that I can get the int value using just Model like

I have developed a website that allows users to upload office documents then uses the office object model to convert the document to an HTML file that it then displays in an iFrame. I have, of course, included references to Office.interop.word, and the site works fine on my development machine. When I uploaded it to my production server the site functions fine until I try to upload a document. I initially got a similar error that said "COM object not registered". I realized that Word wasn't installed on my production server. So I installed word and now when the server tries to access the word object model I receive the following error:
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005 Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))
I searched the registry for the corresponding CLSID and found a corresponding folder. I added full control to the IUSR_ account and due to the persistence of the error I eventually added full control to "everyone" and ensured these permissions inherited down to the rest of the folder. I then added full control to IUSR_ and again eventually added full control to "everyone" to my microsoft office folder. I don't know what other permissions to grant and where in order to make this "Access is denied" error go away. I must be granting them in the wrong place, because as far as I know I can't be any more permissive than "Everyone" "Full Control".

i wonder something about mvc post method. for example I created a view "strongly typed" from a model (MyModel).
<%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<Demo1.Models.MyModel>" %>
for Create actionsthere is two way.
first one takes MyModel as parameter
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult cart(MyModel md, int someID)
{
//some code
//.....
return View(MyModel);
}
second one does not take parameter as model.
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult cart(int someID)
{
//some code
//.....
return View(Mymodel);
}
for first one way, after form post the form values does not delete, I mean form does not cleared,after second one form is be cleared. why this diffirence?

public class BandProfileModel
{
public BandModel Band { get; set; }
public IEnumerable<Relationship> Requests { get; set; }
}
and the following form:
<% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %>
<%: Html.EditorFor(m => m.Band) %>
<input type="submit" value="Save Band" />
<% } %>
which posts to the following action:
public ActionResult EditPost(BandProfileModel m, string band)
{
// stuff is done here, but m is null?
return View(m);
}
Basically, I only have one property on my model that is used in the form. The other property in BandProfleModel is just used in the UI for other data. I'm trying to update just the Band property, but for each post, the argument "m" is always null (specifically, the .Band property is null). It's posting just fine to the action, so it isn't a problem with my route. Just the data is null.
The ID and name attributes of the fields are BAND_whatever and Band.whatever (whatever being a property of Band), so it seems like it would work. What am I doing wrong? How can I use just one property as part of a form, post back, and have values populated via the model binder for my BandProfileModel property in the action?

I am making some application in asp.net 1.1 in that I am displaying data in datagrid from database. In data grid first column is of check box and radio button and in the last column we have text box now thing is that when i click on check box crosponding textbox we fill some figure and at the end we press calculate button to get total. After getting total we have to press continue button to go next step
But suppose if some body remove that check the we should press calculate button or chnage some figure in the text box then we should press calculate button again to recalculate. for that i kept autopost back on check box oncheckedchanged event and text box ontextchanged event and hide continue button so user will click calcutae button abd then continue button will re-apper
Problem it that it taking too much refresh and taking long time. So was lloking for some ajax method to use in my application.

Having alot of startup issues with MVC - I really like the idea behind it all, and the way it works, but still lacking some essential skills, WebForms is much more natural to me. Just to simplify my problem.
I have a "Blog" page with "Posts" which needs a "Comments" systems. In my blog view "/Post/Details/{id}" I'm showing all data for the "Post" model. So at the bottom I need to loop and display all comments, this is fine:
[Code]....
Now I want a form/input where you can submit a new comment. This is the problem, how do I implement that, tried everything! How do I catch that form submit in Details action in my PostController?

How can I make an AJAX call to retrieve the URL of controller's action method?

I've been using the new ASP.Net MVC 3 RemoteAttribute to send a remote call to an action method that had a single parameter. Now I want to pass in a second parameter using the AdditionalFields property:
[Remote("IsEmailAvailable", "Users", AdditionalFields = "InitialEmail")]
Where IntialEmail is a hidden field in the view. The action looks like so:
public JsonResult IsEmailAvailable(string email,string InitialEmail){//etc.}
When the view is rendered, the hidden field is populated, but when the Action method is triggered remotely, the value is an empty string.
I've seen elsewhere case sensitivity may be an issue, so I've ensured the Action method has the same case for both parameters.

I have 2 views for a input operation in my application.
The first view (lets call it view1) submits a form. Based on the form some operations on database is done and second view(View2) is returned with some other data from the database as a model.
[Code]....
Now, since I return a new view and not a action redirect the url is still http://url/View1 but everything works as it is supposed to.
When I submit the form in View2 it calls the View1 action method, not the View2 action method. Probably because the url is still View1.

public ActionResult RenderMyThing(IList<String> strings)
{
return View("RenderMyView");
}
How do I pass in strings?
routes.MapRoute("MyRoute", "RenderMyThing.aspx", new { controller = "My", action = "RenderMyThing" });
Is there a way I could pass in strings here?
Secondly, how does ASP.NET MVC know that action is my action, and controller is my controller. Like I saw this in samples, and it does work, but isn't it just an anonymous object with no type?
