C# - MVC - Using Model Property As Form - Post To Action?
Jan 12, 2011
public class BandProfileModel
{
public BandModel Band { get; set; }
public IEnumerable<Relationship> Requests { get; set; }
}
and the following form:
<% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %>
<%: Html.EditorFor(m => m.Band) %>
<input type="submit" value="Save Band" />
<% } %>
which posts to the following action:
public ActionResult EditPost(BandProfileModel m, string band)
{
// stuff is done here, but m is null?
return View(m);
}
Basically, I only have one property on my model that is used in the form. The other property in BandProfleModel is just used in the UI for other data. I'm trying to update just the Band property, but for each post, the argument "m" is always null (specifically, the .Band property is null). It's posting just fine to the action, so it isn't a problem with my route. Just the data is null.
The ID and name attributes of the fields are BAND_whatever and Band.whatever (whatever being a property of Band), so it seems like it would work. What am I doing wrong? How can I use just one property as part of a form, post back, and have values populated via the model binder for my BandProfileModel property in the action?

i wonder something about mvc post method. for example I created a view "strongly typed" from a model (MyModel).
<%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<Demo1.Models.MyModel>" %>
for Create actionsthere is two way.
first one takes MyModel as parameter
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult cart(MyModel md, int someID)
{
//some code
//.....
return View(MyModel);
}
second one does not take parameter as model.
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult cart(int someID)
{
//some code
//.....
return View(Mymodel);
}
for first one way, after form post the form values does not delete, I mean form does not cleared,after second one form is be cleared. why this diffirence?

I have a single model type to wrap up various models I want to use in my view:
public class QuestionViewData {
public Question Question { get; set; }
public IList<Answer> Answers { get; set; }
}
Now, in my question view I pull the data from the Question object - that's fine. Secondly I iterate through all Answer objects and pass them to a partial view:
<% foreach(Answer item in Model.Answers) { %>
<% Html.RenderPartial("ShowAnswer", item); %>
<% } %>
For each answer (in the partial view) I have some action buttons (like ratings). I'm using separate form POST's with hidden fields for every button. The problem is that I can't post the whole QuestionViewData model to my action method cause I only have the Answer object as model in the partial view. However, I need to return the complete question view from that action that takes QuestionViewData as model.

Having alot of startup issues with MVC - I really like the idea behind it all, and the way it works, but still lacking some essential skills, WebForms is much more natural to me. Just to simplify my problem.
I have a "Blog" page with "Posts" which needs a "Comments" systems. In my blog view "/Post/Details/{id}" I'm showing all data for the "Post" model. So at the bottom I need to loop and display all comments, this is fine:
[Code]....
Now I want a form/input where you can submit a new comment. This is the problem, how do I implement that, tried everything! How do I catch that form submit in Details action in my PostController?

[Code]....
What I want to achieve is the ID of the property: item.Item.ID to be bound to the ID from the (route)URL. However I can't get it to work. I tried using [Bind()] attribute.
I fixed it now using a hidden field in the form like so:
<%= Html.HiddenFor(model => model.Item.ID)%>
However this feels a bit icky. I'd like to know if there is a better cleaner way of doing this?

i have a text box that i bind to my model data and it works fine. however when i submit my form in some cases i want to change the value that in the text box so some value i pull from the db. when i do this, it only works if the form was not submitted. is there something i am not aware of when it comes to rebinding a text box from the model in cases when the form was submited, instead of reloading the same value that the user entered into the text box?

I'm trying to add file upload functionality to a page. I've got a form that posts the selected file to a controller with a 'savefile' method. But if I don't add a get version of 'savefile' I'll get a 404 error. Here is the form code which is presented on the Index page:
[Code]....
And here is the controller code:
[Code]....
Intuitively I don't think I should need a GET version of SaveFile but if omit it I get a 404 error when the form posts. Why should I need a GET version of SaveFile when all I want is to post a form and save the file?

I have two Repeater controls, each hosted in a user control. Both user controls are contained in the same aspx page. Only one User Control is visible at any one time. The repeaters are comprised of checkboxes, and text boxes for user input.
The aspx page is configured with an Ajax ScriptManager; and contains several Ajax UpdatePanels. These UpdatePanels result in partial page post backs when text is changed in a textbox control in controls on the aspx page (this is not the behaviour for the Repeaters in the User Controls). Through use of several AsyncPostBackTriggers, various controls contained in the other UpdatePanels on the page have their content refreshed in response to the partial page post backs they are configured be notified about.
Depending on a radio button group selection, I set the visible property to true or false - as appropriate for the User control containing a repeater control. The Repeater control is then populated with data using databinding. All of this works.
However, when the Submit button is clicked, the Repeater control contains no data.
Given that I am not dynamically adding the Controls containing the Repeater controls (but using Visible true / false). I would have thought that the State of the fields and the data in the visible control would be preserved during the post back.
The User Controls are contained within the UpdatePanel that contains the Submit Button.
I have explicitly Enabled View state without any effect.
Am I correct in assuming that I should not have to do any explicit handling of data changes the user makes (via client side script and manipulation of an Data Structure Representing the Repeater Data); and the View State should maintain the data I need to access on the server when submitted?
I do not believe that it is the User Control visible state changes that are causing the issue because when the page is initially loaded on of the User controls is populated with dummy rows (so it displays).
I am suspicious that because the visible state of the controls is changed during partial page post back, that the Page View State ends up with no knowledge of the User Control and therefore cannot track its data (or changes).

Is there a way to force a non-secure form post to be secure? I understand there are ways to automatically resolve an http URL as an https URL but with form posts, is this type of redirection too late? Will the posted data have already gone through the wire as plain text?

I have a web form called default.aspx which has a form with user information. In addition to this, I have an iFrame on the same page that displays a page Secondary-Form.aspx that has a few additional dynamic data fields. I need to do two things.
1. I need to pass the parent form data in real time to the iFrame page to refresh its content and modify it's fields accordingly. Example: If the user submits their Vehicle Choice as Car on parent form, the form item in iFrame will display a radio button that says Honda, and if the user submits their Vehicle Choice as MotorCycle in the parent page, the iFrame will display Harley Davidson as the radio button choice
2. The submit button is on the parent page. I want both pieces of this information (from the parent page, as well as iFrame selection) to be passed to a server side ASPX page to process this information.the default.aspx and Secondary-Form.aspx files are located on different domains.

I'm trying to use the jQuery.post() function to post an object to an action method, but for some reason the nested objects aren't initialised properly when they're received by the action method.
Here's my javascript code:
[Code]....
And my action method:
[Code]....
company.Id has a value of 10, but company.User.Id is 0. what I'm doing wrong? I've not named any properties incorrectly, by the way.

I must miss something obvious here when using htmlbegin form. I noticed that it takes (or tries to take me) right to the view rather than the an action. If I replace SearchAction with SearchResult is goes nicely to the view, not considering the action.
Using SeachAction leads to the error that it cant find the view.

We have an ASP.Net page that uses a checkbox to toggle between a list view and a tree view. The problem is that this triggers a post. When we then click on one of the documents in the list, then press back in the browser, we get a page expired error. Is it possible to change the action of the check box to trigger a get with a parameter?
