MVC :: Change Error For Invalid Type Input On Field
Aug 13, 2010
I'm using Data Annotations and Metadata attributes in my models to do automatic validations on my forms. Any who, I've got a problem where I have an int field I need to change the error when a letter is entered. Im guetting the default error: "The value 'A' is not valid for NĂºmero.". But since this is a spanish web, i need to change the error to something in spansih. Any who, I cant find where to change the ErrorMessage="" to what I need.
I've tried to override error message when input incorrect data type in input field on HTML form. For example I have the model like this.
public class Person { public string FirstName {get;set;} public int Age {get;set;} }
For view, I put text input for Age to get it value. When type some string in Age text box like 'test' and press submit button. I got this error message ,The value 'xxx' is not valid for AgeHowever, I want to change this message and try many way. There 's nothing effect this message value.
I'm using an AsyncFileUploader and I want to check if the uploaded file is of valid type (e.g. jpg, gif, png, etc...) and if not the AsyncFileUploader should be colored in Red (like ErrorbackColor setting to Red)
Is this possible either using Javascript or FileUploader events?
I have an asp.net mvc 2 application with a SQL Server database accessed by the Entity Framework ORM. Now I found out I had used the wrong datatype for one of the fields in the database - int instead of double.
Now, this is not a big commercial application, but it is nevertheless already in use internally in my company. It works fine, but the users would need to be able to enter decimal values rather than just integers...
So my question is, can I change the type of the field after the fact so to speak, and not lose the data already entered? Of course I would have to change the references to this field in the model and everything that references it, but is it possible at all without losing the data?
so I've set up the table as described.. (seems to be some directions missing with regards to, is identity? and is Primary Key? and what those values are and should be set to for name, description, and price durring table setup) So, ive tried to set the table up as directed and then go on to click DATA which allows me to fill in the table. I can fill in the table all the way accross but when i reach the end of the first row it says:
INVALID DATA your change could not be committed to the database. after you click OK you can fix the invalid entry or press to cancel your changes.
I created a method in my class which will determine if an input is a numeric value or not.
Code:
[URL]
And even I input a numeric value in my entry, still I get the error message "Invalid entry". Can anyone from this community have an idea on how am I going to solve this issue.
I'm using the ChangePassword method of membership provider to change the password and one of the requirement before calling the ChangePassword is to retrieve the current password. But I'm getting error:
I have a DetailsView on the page and I have made one of the fields a TemplateField. In the EditItemTemplate and InsertItemTemplate I have a DropdownList that is databound to a table in my Sql Server database. I wanted to add an initial value to the DropdownList namely "- select -" .
I set the AppendDataBoundItems property to true and added the initial value as a ListItem.Markup of the DropdownList
This works fine for new input. The problem is however that the database already has records that were entered through a Windows Application and many of these records has a null value in this field and exceptions are thrown when I tried to open these records and the system tried to set the SelectedValue of the DropdownList. After some more searching I found this help
This now solved the problem of opening a record where the value is null in the database, BUT now the RequiredFieldValidator is not validating anymore to make sure that a databound item is selected for this field and not the initial value "- select -". So basically now it is not checking anymore to see if valid input has been entered for the DropDownList and it accepts "- select -" thus it acts as if the field is not a required field anymore.
In short what is required is that I want to make sure that the user enters a valid selection in the DropDownList, but it must also cater for old records that do not have this field entered yet so that those old records can be opened in the DetailsView .Opening Old records (with null in that field):When these old records are opened in the DetailsView the DropDownlist should show "- select -" when the value in the database is null.
Saving records (old or new records):When saving the record in Insert mode or Update mode the RequiredFieldValidator should show that a valid input is not selected if the DropDownList is still on "- select -".
I 'm using visual studio 2007 and I have come up with an error in my web config that I have never come up with before. I have set customError mode "off" in my web config and I'm getting an error code of The 'mode' attribute is invalid ' The value 'off' is invalid according to it's data type 'NM Token' - the enumeration constraint failed what an 'NM token' is and what I can do to fix this problem? My page works perfectly when I'm working on it locally, but when I move it to the web server I get an error and it tells me to set the custom mode errors in the web config to 'off' This is the error I'm getting:
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
Protected Sub btnClick_Click(ByVal sender as Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.ImageClickEventArgs) Handles btnclick.click
Dim sb as New System.Text.StringBuilder() sb.Append("<script language='JavaScript'>launchExecutable('") sb.Append(path) sb.Append(" 2 ") sb.Append("</script>);") ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(btnclick, me.Gettype(), "btnclickform", sb.ToString()) End Sub
This is a cut down version of my code, but I'm running this on a TabPanel, so it sets on an Update Panel. If I run this code on a standalone aspx page it works...in other words, without the TabPanel. However, I need it to work on a TabPanel. This is the errors I get: Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: The script tag registered for type 'ASP.client_default_aspx' and key 'btnclickform' has invalid characters outside of the script tags: );. Only properly formatted script tags can be registered.
I have an ASP.net page with two textboxes where the user types in input. I applied a requiredfieldvalidator to both textboxes as well. However, I also want the textboxes to change to a backcolor of red if the form is invalid when the user clicks the button to submit the input. I tried this code below in tthe button click event, but doesnt work...
If Page.IsValid = False Then txtCosts.BackColor = Drawing.Color.Red txtRevenue.BackColor = Drawing.Color.Red End If
How else can I change the Backcolor of the textboxes when the input is invalid.......
I have a jQueryUI dialog with some textboxes, plus a button. Right now, the asp:Button tag used to generate the button automatically sets its type as type="submit". The structure of the dialog is such that pressing enter at any of the textboxes should not call the button click event. It seems like the cleanest way to solve the problem, if it is doable, is to manually set the button's type to something other than submit. Is there a way to do this?
Edit: Forgot to mention this, but the button text is bound to a database item by <%# Eval() %>, which doesn't work without a server-side tag.
I have a gridview in which I have several editable fields. The user wants a non-editable field to be modified if another field is modified in the same row. e.g. if Age>=65, Status should ="Retired"
I am using the following demo: [URL]
to create a bulk edit gridview so some columns are automatically editable and others aren't, with a single update button. I can set Status="Retired" in the xml generated, or as a rule in database table. But I'd like the status field in the gridview to change when Age is modified and to be shown to user before they press the single Update button. I'm using update panels and ajax on the page also.
I want to have an input control for calendars and next to a calendar button that users click on it it will pop up a calendar and when the user selects a date, it will populate the input form with the date.
I have found one on this link:
[URL]
the example in the link above uses drop downs for month and day. I only need one input field. either asp.not or javascripts whichever is easier
Because MVC2 generates input submit buttons, I would like to render my ActionLink instances as buttons. However I have not been able to find a simple means to implement this. How can I create an <input type="button" /> tag and have the onclick="" redirect to another Action? Or in other words, how do I code a button that behaves like an ActionLink?
