My requirement is to get the file size in client side. there is no problem in FF but in IE you can't do that unless u r using an activeX object. So we thought of putting it in browser cache and reading the file size from there and when we post it to the server we will be taking it from the cache and send it to the server.

To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".).aspx

I have a async file upload control and I am doing client side validation for Image."OnClientuploadstarted" I am doing the client side validation.My validation is working fine but my problem is that the file upload control text box goes green (i.e file is loaded on the server) even if the validation fails which is I dont want.What I want is when the client side validation fails the file does not gets loaded on the server and the Async file upload textbox does not goes green.I have goggled but have not found a suitable solution.
View 4 RepliesTo my understanding the clinet side can only send data to the server either by get or post. so basically either through query string (get) or through body of the page (post).
So when we upload a file from client machine and send it to server, what exactly is happening behind the scenes? are we doing a post?
I have studied Phil Haack's post [URL]about custom validation, however, I can not get this to work for my case. I need something like the "PropertiesMustMatch" validator in a default MVC2 project generated by Visual Studio.
None of my custom javascript gets called. I am registering the custom adapter in Application_Start using DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider.RegisterAdapter(....). In the DataAnnotationsModelValidator derived class, GetClientValidationRuls is never even called.
What is going on here? Maybe this type of validation where your validation attribute has to be applied to a class, not a propety, does not yet work with the RTM release of Visual Studio 2010.
I used the FileUpload and all is ok, I dont have problems, but I need put the path for the upload by default, in the load of the page, or java script,, but the FileUpload. values is only read , how i can change this value? when the user click in browse the choose file, make a filter by the path for default for example seacrh in c:d.... or the box Choose File how i can write the file name by default?
document.getElementById("fUplLoadFile").value="C:\";
I have in the fact copied the code of Login page in the ASP.NET MVC application template (provided with VS). In the original template, client side validation is working but when I copy all the connected code I get only server side validation (no red fields, post back even if data are incorrect).
public class LogOnModel {
[Required]
[Display(Name = "User name")]
public string UserName { get; set; }
[Required]
[DataType(DataType.Password)]
[Display(Name = "Password")]
public string Password { get; set; }

Custom Validation Client-Side not working
View 9 RepliesI have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)
<asp:RadioButton runat="Server" ID="RadioBetween" GroupName="DateGroup" CssClass="date_group_options_control_radio" />
[code]...
There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)

Have some problems with client side validation (using RequiredFieldValidator, RegularExpressionValidator, CustomValidator with client side validation logic). It seems that WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions is not fired or causes unhandled exception that makes the form to do the postback regardless it's valid or not.
I tried using a ValidationSummary, hiding it if javascript is supported:

$(document).ready(function() {
$("#javascriptDisabled").hide();
[code]...
Every thing works fine on Chrome with disabled javascript on my laptop, but not on my Android phone. The problem is that on the phone Javascript is not disabled, it's enabled, and correctly hides the ValidationSummary, but does not perform client side validation for some reason that i can't understand (no developers tools on Android browser :(( ).This is very frustrating! :(
I'm trying to get a very simple client side validation example to work in ASP.NET MVC 2. I'm using data annotations to set a required property "Surname". When I use the Html.ValidationMessageFor(x => x.Surname) the correct client side validation script is written to the page. But when I use Html.ValidationMessage("Surname") the client side validation is not rendered out until after the page has been posted. Client side validation only starts working after a form post! I can see that the script is updated in the page after a form post. There appears to be a bug in Html.ValidationMessage()?
View 3 RepliesI have a webform in which i am using Ajax.BeginForm.
But due to this my client side required fields are not working.
I have to copy a file from client machine to server folder without use file upload control.
i tried with WebClient().Like this
Dim onbjweb As New WebClient()
onbjweb.UploadFile(Server.MapPath(serverpath), "POST", LocalFilePath).
Its working fine in localhost.When its deployed in server its not working.
I want to access one image file residing in C: of the client's machine. I know with the help of file upload control (or say input type=file), this would be easy. Due to nature of my application (Its a KIOSK application), user is not expected to select file. I am just wondering how should I implement reading file without using file upload control. I want to store this file in Images folder of server. I am beginner to WCF. Should I look towards WCF?
View 7 RepliesUntil the Dec 29th my website was working fine. Then My fileupload problems started happening. My fileupload page would simply quit and say the page can not be found. I maximized all my timeout settings and that did not work. I called my hosting company and apparently they have no problem using my page to upload files from their geographical area. So then I concluded it might be a network problem. I ran a trace route and could not really figure out where the problem was. So, I have no idea what is going on. Is it possible that my site is being blocked by some black list out there somewhere?
View 3 RepliesI want to download a pdf file on client side
View 3 RepliesI have to read the first couple of lines of a csv file client side to present the user with a preview before uploading a large file.
I'm using c# with ASP.Net (VS2010)
Does anyone know how this can be done? Also that it works in all browsers!?!
(It's not possible to use activeX or so, we do not want our clients to install something!)
I need user to select file on his computer and get only location of that file (not to upload).
View 3 RepliesI am trying to upload photo to my website folder "upload"
View 6 RepliesIn my application I want to open a file that exists on a client machine. I created two applications: desktop and web application. When the user installs the desktop application there are some files which is copied to its installation path, and I want to open those files from my web application via javascript.
View 6 RepliesWe have a requirement to allow the cient to upload multiple files which resides in a single folder, within the client computer. To do this can we allow the client to browse for the file location and select a single file (via a normal asp file uploader), and then recursively read the necessary files from the relevant directory? Is this possible or is there any other way to do this?
