MVC :: Error Couldn't Load Type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage'
Feb 18, 2010
My application has developed an issue that has got me baffled - i'm fairly new to MVC so please bear with me. I have an MVC web application and a Domain library, the domain has a DataModel.dbml with a single table Enquiry I have a single view called Contact with a controller HelpController, this view has a few form fields to insert the data in to the database the view has the following at the top of the file
Error parsing attribute 'something': Type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage' does not have a public property named 'something'.
Notice how it tries to use System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage rather than my BaseViewPage class. To make it more interesting, if I remove the "Something" attribute from the Page directive and put some code in the generic version of BaseViewPage (OnInit for example) the class is actually called / used / instantiated.
So, am I doing something wrong or is this a limitation.
I am running Windows Server 2008, ASP.NET 3.5, IIS7 i wonder if it's IIS7 problem, or .NET Framework or even security updates problem suddenly all websites do not work, and from event viewer there're two errors
Exception: System.TypeLoadException

I am very new to ASP .net. I need to create web application with ASP .net using VB. I have created a project and create web forms with Visual Studio 2005 (ASP .net version 2.0). And it was working fine on local host. However, I got an error after I published the forms on our hosting site. The error code was as following:
Line 1: <%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="Login.aspx.vb" Inherits="KocaWebSite.Login" %> Line 2: Line 3: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
I have tried to find the answers on this forum as well. But I couldn't find clear answer.
i created a site called birthday_calendar in vwd 2008.. it runs in my local system correctly, but when i host this site, it showing error"Could not load type: birthday_calendar".. what is the wrong with this? I just copied the website files to hosting server. I dont have any bin folder in my website containing dll files.. i googled this error, results are showing that, the website should be compiled and bin folder should be in correct place.
i have installed ajaxtoolkit 3.5 but when i debug i am getting this error Could not load type 'System.Web.UI.ScriptReferenceBase' from assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' even i have changed my tags to
I just deployed a test MVC2 application to a shared host and get the error Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.UrlParameter' when firing up the application. This is a bin readable application as my hosting provider does not yet have MVC2 installed, however, they assure me this should run OK. Also this is a barebones application, basically the default project structure published for testing purposes.Any suggestions as to resolving this?
I have a rather simple internal ASP.Net Website that has issues loading the Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data dll about once a week. Here is the Exception message:

Things of note:
A simple IIS Reset fixes the issue. We had the same code running on a single webserver with no problems. We then moved the site to two new, load balanced (using sticky sessions) webservers (all three Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP1). Now each of the load balanced webservers throw this exception about once a week just out of the blue. The only major difference I can think of, is I've installed the 4.0 .NET framework on the load balanced servers. The website is still running under ASP.NET 2.0 so I don't see how this would be an issue I've configured the indexing service to not search the "Temporary ASP.NET Files" folder, but it didn't help. We use the Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data dll everywhere on our site. Almost every single page uses our logic dll which in turn utilizes the EnterpriseLibrary dlls. While the errors where happening once, I even looked to see what processes were locking the dll in the "Temporary ASP.NET Files" folder, and it wasn't any different than the locks on the server that was working fine. Once the error starts, it errors every single time until an iisreset is performed.
I've tried deploying my asp.net app to a new server and I get this error:
Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Entity, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
Sure enough, System.Web.Entity isn't found in C:WindowsAssembly. However, the server has MS .NET Framework 3.5 installed and also MS ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions 1.0. Is this something I need to deploy with my app, or something I need to be installed on the server? It's not my own server so xcopy deployment within my app folder would be much better if that's possible.
I am developing the Windows Live@edu SSO integration with asp.net custom code.It uses the DLL called "System.Management.Automation" for executing Windows powershell v2.0 commands for connecting Outlook Live Apps.It works fine in localhost, but during deployment in Windows server 2008 , it shows error called
Could not load type 'System.Management.Automation.Runspaces.PSSession' from assembly 'System.Management.Automation, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'."
Everything works absolutly fine in dev, but when I move the solution to IIS 7, I get this error! CompanyWeb is the masterpage, which is located in the login directory. Here is the page directive for login.aspx, which is the offending page
i doing one application. That is grid binding .i got this error
System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper<object>' does not contain a definition for 'GridView' and the best extension method overload 'MvcApplication2.Code.GridViewExtensions.GridView<T>(System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper, MvcApplication2.Code.GridViewData<T>, System.Action<MvcApplication2.Code.GridViewData<T>>, System.Action<T,string>, string, string, System.Action<T>, System.Action<MvcApplication2.Code.GridViewData<T>>)'
how to find this solution and how to change System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage to System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<Model>
I'm only pretty new to .net MVC. I have a solution which has 2 projects one is asp .net 2.0 and the other is asp .net MVC. I created the MVC project and it was working fine. I then imported the project into the solution in it's own folder and now I'm getting an error when I try to run it. What am I missing? Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewMasterPage'.
i have installed ajax control kit successfully and all controls already came in toolbar tab named "Ajax Control toolkit"But when i try to design any page using with ajax control toolkit, follow error is coming:

I am using VIsual Studio 2008 , framework 3.5 but i don't know why in error information version is showing 2.0
i install tool kit according 3.5 framework.also note, framework built-in ajax tags i can use fine and they work properly.
I seem to be having issues with posting forms with DropDownLists. I've looked all over the net and tried various solutions, but none seem to work for me.
I'm getting the following error: The parameter conversion from type 'System.String' to type 'Models.Organization' failed because no type converter can convert between these types.
Here's my ViewModel:

Here's my controller:

The objects are generated by ADO.NET Entity Framework. Organizations is its own object, but also a property of Profile (each user belongs to one organization). Now I understand what the error message is saying, just not sure how else I'm supposed to do this.
I am developing a website which will be having both asp.net pages and MVC pages in it, So I have BaseWebPage class which will be used for both asp.net pages and MVC Views. but My BaseWebPage class is inherited from System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage, So Will there be any code/ functionality break for normal asp.net pages, because System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage is overriding some of the Pagelife cycle methods.
I am using Toolkit ScriptManager and Accordion and am getting this error.Could not load type 'System.Web.UI.ScriptReferenceBase' from assembly 'System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'.
This started as Could not load type 'Global' error. After I tried a few things and getting no where I deleted the Global.asax file and now the error is Could not load type '[namespace].???'Where ??? is the class name of every page I try to load. The web site (when executed within VS2008, local dev computer) works fine but once published (with no errors) and deployed to the server gives me Could not load type '[namespace].???' error
I did install elmah and I was able to get more details for this "generic" Could not load type '[namespace].???' error
elmah reports a HTTP error 500 :
System.Web.HttpException Could not load type '[namespace].???' -> System.Web.HttpParseException: Could not load type '[namespace].???'
I have checked the "basics"
References Doing a clean and a build Checking the Inherits attr in the HTML against the code behind
UPDATE #1 I did deploy the site to a different DEV computer (configured IIS, virtual folder, etc.) and it works. When I use the same published code on the server, get the generic Could not load type '[namespace].???' error
UPDATE #2 I created a test web app. One form (Default.aspx) with a button. The click event does a Response.Write("Hello World"); I moved this app to the server and guess what, I get the Could not load type TestSite._Default
UPDATE #3 According to the fusion log viewer, these two websites are attempting to load CppCodeProvider and VJSharpCodeProvider, but I have no references to any of these. After a Google search, I found this post.I checked and I have no references to JAVA files.
i am gettting the following error on the webpage...

I am LINQ querrying against a datatable. However, I am unsuccessfull with catching null values. Here is my code that is giving me the following error.

I am checking to see if minperc is null. However to check that it still is trying to convert the value to double. Cant figure out a way around it. Here is the error: Cannot cast DBNull.Value to type 'System.Double'. Please use a nullable type.
I've run into a problem with WCF REST Service. I get:
Could not load type 'System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpHandler' from assembly 'System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.
when running inside of the IIS in an ASP.NET 4.0 AppPool.
The problem seems to occur only if:Running inside of IIS When ASP.NET Comaptibility is enabled
Running in Cassini - no problem it works properly. Running with ASP.NET compatibility off - no problem it works.
It appears that it's some sort of handler version conflict trying to instantiate the wrong version of the handler that in turn tries to load an older version of System.ServiceModel, but I haven't been able to trace this down.
Anybody seen anything like this before and have any ideas how to track this down further?
I've looked in ApplicationHost.config and the master web.config files for System.ServiceModel and HttpHandler references but no luck.
