MVC :: HTML / CSS Customer Order Workflow Site
Mar 4, 2010
I have see many websites that they show nice tab headings with STEPS: 1. Sign-in, 2- Billing info, 3 - Payment, 4 - Place order While customer ordering items, he/she goes through these steps and gets an experience of using a wizard based approach. one Also this gives good feedback of what are steps involved in the order processing Any details on how to do this wizard kind of functionality in ASP.NET MVC? Is there anything in JQuery UI that might be helpful? I know that I can simply use some text tabs and use different background color for selected step: But wondering if there is more standard or better ways to do this with: ASP.NET MVC, JQuery UI etc.

using sql server 2005. I have table setup as follows
Table: Orders
Col: CustomerID
Col: OrderID
Col: OrderDate
so a given Customer can have many orders in this table however I only want to return the last order (using OrderDate) for each customer. how do you do this? I assume that I need to group by customerID and then use max on the OrderDate but not sure of the exact syntax.

I know this is not the right place to post this question but I dont know where to go. My question is this.I have a statemachine workflow, this workflow works fine until a new requirement is came. The new requirement is to add a new state and event driven but this event driven is fired if the document library item is updated where the workfow is embedded. Is this posible? if so what event activity should I place?

The client wants to see a graphical representation of the workflow. In addition (let's say it is a workflow for processing orders), the client wants to see at what point in the workflow any given order is, indicated on the graphical workflow representation by a highlighted node or some visual queue.
All of this must be available via a web interface.
Was hoping somebody had some bright ideas for how to achieve this without writing extensive custom controls.
Does Workflow Foundation 4 offer anything itself that would assist toward this end?

I'm not really sure where to start with this and therefore can't pick a more specific area to post. At first I though this might be something I would do in IIS7 but on reflection i think it needs to be at the application level. I am developing an application which will as part of it's function provide a unique website (custom CMS) to my customers. Each person who registers will have their own site accessible via a url such as [URL]. I need someway to take this and work out which customer it is and then load the rest of the pages with their content. So the site may have a home, about us and news pages for example and be themed to the customers requirements. Each of the pages will be the same aspx file and application for all customers but the content and style will be loaded from the database at runtime. I'd like for the duration of the visit for everything to appear as if from this subdirectory without actually creating them for each customer. so thy could visit [URL] but it actually loads [URL] and loads the content based on the customer site the visit is viewing.
I'm not really sure how to approach this. Maybe using a session value to store the customerid for the site the person is viewing which could be calculated from the URL on the first visit. I presume other people have done something simialr in the past. Where it gets more complex is if I then want to offer customers to have there own domain name pointed to the site. In that scenario they would have say [URL] which points to my server and bound to my application [URL]. All pages would have look as though they were on the customer website such as [URL] but still point to [URL] in the background and also somehow link to the customerid in the database to load the correct content.

I've never been able to understand why it is that some things are made in a particular way, and Html.ActionLink is one of these. In Global.asax, if I want to create a route, it has the format:
[Code]....
The order of the necessary parameters here is "name/controller/action/extra params". When using Html.ActionLink, the parameter order is "name/action/controller/extra params", which is much the same but with two of them switched around. To make things more confusing, the rendered html from the Html.ActionLink has the original order "controller/action/extra params" with the name inside of the anchor tag. Why do this? It's easy enough to memorize that the order is switched for absolutely no reason I can discerne, but why do it in the first place?

I've been trying to exclude an asp.net web control from the tabbing order. The control that i'm using is the RadioButtonList control. I've try setting the TabIndex to either 0 or -1.The problem that i'm running into is ... initially the control is skipped (which is good), but it seemed like the engine just shifted the control to the end of the tabbing order. Is this an expected behavior? or is there a work around for this?
After checking the HTML source, I have some interesting findings ...
<td><input id="rbSpiffType_0" type="radio" name="rbSpiffType" value="R" checked="checked" tabindex="-1" /><label for="rbSpiffType_0">Regular Spiff</label></td><td>
I think i might be tabbing into the label .

I have a div where I put a lot of stuff on runtime to construct a chart. The user should be able to copy the chart to another div (innerHTML) and then make som adjustments to the original div, which causes a postback. Of cours the cloned div comes back empty.
So I'm thinking of putting the entire innerHTML in a session variable at page_unload, but then I run into the validation problem. I've tried using a hiddenfield as an in-between control, but it's the same, and it seems you can't use the CausesValidation on that control. I've also tried a regular asp:textbox, but the CausesValidation doesn't have any effect.
How to do this? Or any better way all together on the copy-chart issue?

From my testing, it appears that the order of parameters for the UpdateParameters must match both the order of the bound fields on the form (asp:Formview), and the order of the parameters in the UpdateCommand. Is that correct? If so, why do the parameters have names if all that matters is the order? I tried both asp:ControlParameter and asp:Parameter. Maybe the more relevant question is why aren't the names used instead of the order, particularly for the form order?
So, given I display the Identity field (CID), and need that for the update, I cannot get the update to work without including it in the UpdateCommand. Of course, since it is an autonumber field in Access, I cannot actually set it. So, I had to add another field to the db (lngUpdateCID) that I could set. That can't be how it has to be done, but I could not figure out another way to do this.
The relevant code is below:
[Code]....

I've been asked to create a page which will provide identical information from another page. The key thing is, from my understanding, that it is not data driven it's from a txt file wich is updated. This info will need to be reflected on the page I'm going to create. how to "pull" or get the information w/o the help of database?

I'm doing css for a website. I send the html and css to a guy, he puts it into ASP.net. The problem is that the transfer didn't end well for my code and it needs some fixing. The problem is that when I look at it in Chrome, or Firefox, or IE8, I get three completely different renderings. I spent a good amount of time trying to fix a drop-down menu that is supposed to appear while hovering over a link. The one he had in place from ASP.net worked in IE, kinda worked in Firefox, and was completely broken in Chrome (I haven't tested Safari or Opera.) Just getting it to look basically the same in firefox and chrome was a struggle. The html source is showing me two completely different pages as well.
Does anyone have experience with this? I know nothing of ASP.net, and it seems like the guy is modifying my layout with a wsyiwyg (I found tables used in random places, which I did not put there.) Faced with this, what is my best option? Is this fixable, or am I in over my head?

I'd like to html encode all user input on the ASP.NET MVC 2 site but default. Can this be done anywhere on model binder level?
If I disable input validation for action -- I will need to html-encode every other value. If I keep ASP.NET request validation on -- it will throw erros "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client"
P.S. I do use encoding when outputting data (<%: %> syntax), but I'd like to encode everything on posting it too.

All too often I find myself being required to design pages that flow through a series of steps. 1) Select from a set of options. Submit.2) Populate a page with results. Make changes. Submit.3) Do something based on the previous results. Submit.4) Confirm previous actions. Submit.5) Goto 1.An ecommerce site with shopping cart would be a textbook example of this. Now, there are any number of ways to deal with this. My question is, what is the recommended way to do it in asp.net? In PHP or ISAPI I would just use standard html controls, get the post data and do stuff with it, each on a different page

I have a need to display our application widget within a third-party website (think things like GetSatisfaction, UserVoice and other feedback widgets that people use). What is the safest and most reliable way to do this? I can think of some criteria and issues already: The code needs to be framework and language independent. Even though my app is ASP.NET, the 'launcher' will be run in any HTML page that belongs to our customers. So I suppose that limits me to HTML and Javascript only. The function needs to be very easy to call. So that implies a <script scr='mywebsite.com/widget.aspx' ...> as the sole thing to give to my customer. There is to be no use of CSS. Or rather, I can style things, but without a CSS file, as that could pull in styles that conflict with what my customer is running. There must be no use of libraries such as JQuery. I mention this because I can imagine problems if we pull in a JQuery version that differs from our customer's, thus ruining their site with our code.
