View 8 RepliesWhen creating dynamic controls based on a data source of arbitrary and changing size, what is the official way to track exactly how many controls need to be rebuilt into the page's control collection after a Postback operation (i.e. on the server side during the ASP.NET page event lifecycle) specifically the point at which dynamic controls are supposed to be rebuilt? Where is the arity stored for retrieval and reconstruction usage?
By "official" I mean the Microsoft way of doing it. There exist hacks like Session storage, etc but I want to know the bonafide or at least Microsoft-recommended way. I've been unable to find a documentation page stating this information. Usually code samples work with a set of dynamic controls of known numbers. It's as if doing otherwise would be tougher.
Update: I'm not inquiring about user controls or static expression of declarative controls, but instead about dynamically injecting controls completely from code-behind, whether they be mine, 3rd-party or built-in ASP.NET controls.
Do they work with webmatrix and vb coding?this is from asp net webpages with razor in c#
<div>
@if (Request["TwitterUser"].IsEmpty()) {
@Twitter.Search("microsoft")
}
else {
@Twitter.Profile(Request["TwitterUser"])
}

I'm trying to follow a tutorials on how to use helpers to use video, audio, Twitter, etc. And for that I need Microsoft.Web.Helpers. But when I try to add it via NUPACK, the whole application crushes. Even when I remove the package, the application never recovers. Below is the error I'm getting.
[Code]....
Where can I get Microsoft.Web.Helpers so that I can just add it manually to my project.
Is there a way to translate things which are sitting in Microsoft.Web.Helpers.dll? For example: to upload file tghe FileUploadHelper gets called and user is presented with two edit boxes plus 'Browse...' and 'Upload' buttons and 'Add more files' label - all this I'd like to translate as it looks really weird if I mix the languages on website.
View 3 Repliesis it possible to be able to change the WebSecurity login page ? in the _start.cshtml for exemple ? because sometimes you need to put the login page in another folder or change the name of that page ( if i speak french , i aint gona call my page login). I know i can to a Response.Redirect but it forces me to create fake login pages for nothing.
View 4 RepliesWhen you can simply encode the data using HttpUtility.HtmlEncode, why should we use AntiXss.HtmlEncode? Why is white list approach better than black listing?Also, in the Anti XSS library, where do I specify the whitelist?
View 3 RepliesHas any one used Microsoft's Enterprise Library, if so what parts of it did you use? I am using building a website (I guess the client app type is not important, it can be a Windows app as well) with all the architectural layer, and I am specifically interested in the exception handling, logging and caching blocks for now. Any one used these, what were the good and bads of your experience with, any alternatives that you rather decided to use? Performance is a thing that I am also interested in. I am looking for a decent exception handling framework which is how I came across the exception handling block. Anything other out there? Is it a wise idea to use the data access block with an MVC application seeing that everybody is the repository pattern with an ORM framework? I am still researching frameworks, so I would like to hear as many opinions.
View 1 Repliess is really old news, but I just found out today. I was watching a channel 9 video on jquery and wcf (http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/Devs4Devs/WCF-and-jQuery-A-Perfect-Couple) and the narrator said at the MIX conference that the Microsoft Client Library is dead and that jQuery is getting all those efforts. So I use the client side library at work. So my question is does this affect the UpdatePanel and it's client side events? The UpdatePanel control looks to be integrated into ASP.NET. I would prefer to not use it anyways because of well known performance issues, but my boss prefers it's simplicity
View 1 RepliesI am using microsoft enterprise libarary to connect to mysql using mysql .net connector (latest version 6.2.3)

So i want to ask is there any issue with my code or is there any issue with mysql connector
I want to include Microsoft AntiXss V1.5 library on my live site running in a medium trust setting.However, I got an error something like:Required permissions cannot be acquired.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Security.Policy.PolicyException: Required permissions cannot be acquired.I tried this in full trust setting on my development machine and everything works good.Looks like this will run only in full trust configuration.

With .net 4 there's a new <%: %> script enclosure that's like <%= %> but does an html encode. People are encouraging the use of this new syntax. My question is, does <%: %> protect against XSS better or as well as using the Microsoft Anti XSS library?
A Microsoft security person once told me to never just use HTML Encode as it doesn't protect very well and that I should always use the Anti XSS library (or another library). Is that still true with <%: %>? Or can I confidently use <%: %> knowing it's going to protect my app from XSS like people are saying?
I am looking at the twitter api page http://apiwiki.twitter.com/ and I noticed that they have already built libraries that are wrappers against the twitter api. So I am thinking this is the best way to go but I am unsure which C# library I should use.
What I am trying to do is make some simple service or cmd line application that will help me automate retweeting.
So I am looking for a library that will allow me to get posts from other twitter accounts and then retweet them from another account.
I am not sure if the library can do this or not. Otherwise I was thinking of getting the RSS feed from the twiter account I want to get the twitters from parse out the new ones and use a library to retweet them on my own account.
I have not used twitter much so I am hopping someone can shed some light on this.
We have developed apllication in Microsoft VS 2008 and when we opening this same application with Microsoft VS 2010. Then it's asking to convert.

I have been using web forms and I have been let down by them. I hate the way it mangles my element id's and names. I want to have full control over my html and have the ability to have multiple forms on one page.
I do not use view state or post backs. All my server communication is done using JQuery ajax and sometimes page methods.
My pages do not make use of any runat=server controls other than occasionally using the repeater.
For now I have been using inline code like the following but I like the mvc html helpers.
EXAMPLE:
[Code]....
At the moment, using the asp.net mvc framework is not an option but I would like to use the HTML helpers in my asp.net application.
Is this possible to use the mvc html helpers or do I have to create my ow helpers?
I just upgraded my mvc 1.0 project to 2.0 using the wizard. My project builds fine however, my html helpers that I have used, does not render the input's ID tag. For some reason, only some controls render and some do not. For example:
[code]....
I thought it had to do with the fact that the value is empty, but from the two examples, they are nearly identical. Is this a bug? All was working before I upgraded.
As concluded in this thread http://forums.asp.net/t/1583508.aspx MVC 2 converts some disallowed characters in the 'id' property of tag to the HtmlHelper.IdAttributeDotReplacement but the code to do that is internal to mvc and not exposed as i can see. Will I need to copy the code into my project so my custom herlps can do the same?
View 4 RepliesWith the release of mvc 3 rc, I've started playing around with the Razor engine. Has anybody gotten razor templated helpers to work? If so, how? I have a single helper in View/Helpers folder and a single layout page. If I move the code to the view page, it works. The error is ' not in context' for the method name. How and where do I correct this?
View 3 RepliesWhen using the template helpers in ASP.NET MVC, e.g. Html.EditorFor(x => x.Property) the rendered Html with have a capitalized ID - matching my property name. In order to standardize the ID's of all html elements I want this to be lower case. Rather than specifying the ID manually - which won't get updated if I rename my property, I'd like to establish a convention. I'm sure I read this was possible somewhere and I'm currently scanning the interwebz to find it.
View 2 RepliesI´m learning mvc and I found a problem. I have a product table that stores currencies in integers. On the other hand I have a table name currency that stores each int id with the currency name.
On html.dropdownlist I followed the pattern:
The name of the form field (ArtistId) The list of values for the dropdown, passed as a SelectList The Data Value field which should be posted back with the form The Data Text field which should be displayed in the dropdown list The Selected Value which is used to set the dropdown list value when the form is displayed
This was great for Forms in order to display selections. Right know I´m finishing my details views and I need to use the int id on product table but display the name on currency table associated to that int id.
Does anyone knows if it exist an html helper that renders the Data Text Field that should be dsiplayed on the View taking into consideration the int number?
Something like @html.display("Name", model.product.currencyid) where name is pulled from db.currency?.
So, most of the MVC examples I find are C#, so I seem to have trouble finding samples ....(bear with me, I'm a newbie) with that said, if anyone can point me in the right direction,
I simply want to be able to apply htmlattributes / styles to my select box
[Code]....
How can I use css and other attributes such max length with the strongly typed views ?
View 1 RepliesI am looking on Music store example:
In Model we have:
[Required(ErrorMessage = "An Album Title is required")]
public string Title { get; set; }
In a View we have a Razor code:
<div class="editor-field">
@Html.EditorFor(model => model.Title)
@Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Title)
</div>
My questions: Where I can find definition of EditorFor and ValidationMessageFor helpers?
What is the meaning of "=>" in the above command?
Can i create html helpers in Webforms project like in asp.net mvc?
