I've developed a Web User Control with ASP.NET Web Foms that uses client side binding and allows to the user to enter a series of items. During a post, the JavaScript code of my control serializes the items in JSON and put them in a hidden field so the server code of the control can take this JSON string, deserialize it and expose the entered items through a property . How can I obtain a similar functionality and reusability with MVC since during a post my control won't be there to take this JSON string and interpret it correctly? In the end, the hidden field "trick" and the specifics of what data is serialized (and in what way) is just part of the internals of my control that shouldn't have to care to "anyone" outside it (after all, that's why the component abstraction exists).
We are in the process of building a huge site. We are contemplating on whether to do the processing of HTML at server side (ASP .Net) or at the client side. For example we have HTML files which acts like templates for the generation of tabs. Is it better for the server side to get hold of content section (div) of HTML load the appropriate values and send the updated HTML to the browser or is it better that a chunk of data is passed onto client and make Javascript do the work?
I have a string with special characters insert in different places. For example:
string myString = "This is a textbox: ##";
I would like to replace the ## with a control (namely, a textbox).
The Replace method only allows the string to be replaced with another string or character (understandably). But what would be the best way to dynamically replace the ## with a control in its position?
I was thinking maybe I could replace it with HTML markup which would be executed, but not quite sure how that would be achieved.
EDIT: To clarify some details. The strings are being retrieved from a database, so I can't use the PlaceHolder control. The user selects a string from a drop-down list. The value of the item is the string with special characters. When the postback occurs from the item selection, I would like to display the string on the site, but replace the special characters with a fully working control (in this case, a textbox)
I have at text box with a validator control which works fine (prevents letters being entered, only numbers)
However once it displays the error message I am unable to do anything else on the page, links don't work etc. I have to close down the window and start the website agin.
I need to replace <span> entries in a string to legacy html code because it's going to be used in a report for Crystal Reports. <b> works with Crystal, but the<span>'s do not.
Here's the string which I'm trying to replace: <span style="font-weight: bold">%THIS CAN BE ANY TEXT%</span>. I want to replace it to
i want to change name of hyper link during runtime ,i put text box i take value from text box and put it as name of hyper link but when i reload page the original name of hyper link back again what i can i do to save the new value for ever.
i want to replace the control after binding like suppose i bind a gridview with the edit button . when i press the edit button all field are come as a textbox control. i replace this textbox to another control how to do this.
I'm working on an ASP.NET web application for our corporate intranet users. I have a form where a user should provide a path to the file on the local network (something like "localServersomeFoldersomeFile.ext") without uploading the actual file. The issue is that users don't want to type the whole file path and want to use some kind of visual browse dialog.
The standard HTML <input type=file> element allows to browse for a file, but most of the browsers (except for IE) don't allow to access file's full path, so I think it should be done by some external component like Silverlight, Flash, Java applet etc. I tried to do it with Silverlight, but I'm getting a SecurityException when trying to access file's full path using Silverlight's OpenFileDialog class. This java applet [URL] seems to do something similar to what I'm looking for, but it's focused on uploading files - I only need to be able to get file's full path and pass it to the server as a string.
Short story: what can I replace asp:Menu web control so submenu items can be viewed in (a) Safari (iPad) and (b) IE8.0 NOT in compatible view. Need simple solution so non-Java script dummy can do.
I have a web page devoloped in visual studio 2008.I have 4 dropdowns and a repeater in the page.based on the selection(search criteria) from the dropdowns the repeater value will change and one dropdown selection will bind values to the other dropdown also.Since the page is causing a lot of postback we decided to implement ajax here.I am yet to learn ajax.which ajax control replace dropdowns?
i have already server side code written on all dropdowns. Please give me a good solution which i can implement in less time and reuse my code. One more update: i have a master page used in the project.I am using update panel of ajax which does not work if i use master page.(That means all the dropdown controls and repeater i put it in update panel. But still page postback occurs.)In a normal page(without master page) it works?
I hv a file upload control which save files in folder upload_html. When I upload file of same name which already exists upload_html folder it does't replace that file.........
I want that file to be replaced from that folder.............
When I click the button to open the modal popup it shows the popup but then continues and forces a postback causing the page to reload and the modal popup to be hidden again. Here is the markup for the control:
Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request.
The above error occurs with gridview control , when used with template field columns with item template / and edit templates etc. updating a row within gridview, at the time of loadiong it loads perfectly fined, but when tried to modify an existing row within gridview control, then it produces the error. Make sure the grid view control has to be a child control which manages the child table info with in a master form. to reproduce the above problem the grid view must be loading the child records info of a master within the masterform, meaning both master data and gridview data all to be managed in one single form.
I had to replace gridview control with datagrid and then it worked perfectly fine. I wasted almost 4 days of my time., there is no way we could figure out the problem. here is the full info of the problem.

In my default.aspx page I have a PlaceHolder control within an UpdatePanel. In this placeholder control I will dynamically load a web user control, which is just a form with a submit button. On this user control, I have the form within an update panel and I have the "Submit" button's Click Event added to the triggers.
When I submit the form, the UpdatePanel on the web user control nor the update panel on the default.aspx page are capturing the post back, thus causing a full post back which refreshes my page.
how to capture this post so its rendered in Ajax and not a full post back?
Im wondering how to get a label control that is in a header template in a datalist on an aspx page. I need the control text to change when the user checks a checkbox outside of the list on the page somewhere. I tried Itemdatabound, but I dont want to have to rebind the list everytime the user checks the box (lots of slow reaction time)
I had a little project is create dynamic control. My project had get detail of content and replace in sign string, Add control in sign. After click button I will find in control, I had added on page load in panel. I can't get value in child control panel, Don't have control in panel. My source is
I have a web application that shows a page containing between 6 and 20 AJAX UpdatePanels, contained with Custom Web (.ascx) Controls.
You can see an example of such a page here:
[URL]
The problem I'm getting is that when the user FIRST clicks any of the radio-buttons on any of the controls in the page, ALL the radio buttons that have an active selection ALSO fire an rb_CheckChanged event (see application log below). On subsequent radio-button clicks, only that RB fires the event (as expected).
This behaviour is having a dramatic impact on performance. The page loads quickly, and a "normal" RB click provides an AJAX update correctly within 1 second. The problematic first RB click, however, takes up to SIX seconds to process, which is unacceptable from a user experience standpoint.
Developed in VS.NET 2008, ASP.NET 3.5. Also I converted the "Web Site" solution to a "Web Application" (pre-compiled) and got the same performance (still too slow). Release builds run only marginally faster than debug builds.
Why would a single RB selection change cause all RB's that have a "selection" set on them to also fire? (The "selection" is determined through database settings every time the control is populated, which is called from within the parent page control's Page_Load function. This selection is determined also at first page load, since all the controls get populated then, so why would the clicking of an RB cause them all to fire an event, and only once? That's what I don't get...)
Not sure if this is an AJAX issue, or general ASP.NET UI issue, so I'm posting in two forums on this one.
